You dont know anyhting about the citizens of İzmir and aegean region. As an native of İzmir im saying; we lived in peace and respect with the greeks and armenians through the centuries. But when we lost the ww1 Greek goverment found the best opportunity to make the Megali İdea. They have supported by the britians and they were very hyped. And that bad incidens happened. Unfortunately for the greek goverment, our great father was the most talented and clever soldier best after Napoleon. He crushed the dreams of the greeks and captured back İzmir in 9 september. The burning of İzmir was in 13 september... when we were celebrating and resting, thats all im saying :) even though you europeans still try to polarize us, Turkish and Greek people love each other very much. You are making a mistake by confusing the people with the politics.

“The turks were geocoding greeks,” absolutely incorrect. Some of the greatest monuments of Izmir were greek built orphanages, schools, hospitals, and much more. Approximately 60% of the greek population knew how to read and write. Compared to Turkish muslims in the same area, it was 6%. Greeks were perfectly fine before Venizelos (the tyrant). All they wanted was even more power. Greeks in Izmir were never oppressed but turks were much more poor and uneducated compared to the greeks. This is why there were no uprisings in Izmir, but uprising in mainland Greece. Mainland Greece is basically just a rock that was not at all fertile. The greeks here were oppressed, not the greeks in Izmir. Izmir is relatively fertile, if you didn’t know. The “liberation army of greeks” also enacted scorch earth policies when they were retreating out of Anatolia, causing the death of thousands of innocent turks. Of course, when we liberated our lands from greek oppressors, we were not very kind and forgiving to greeks. I do not support the death of any innocent civilian. However, this was post-war. I would also like to remind you that the Balkan War caused nationalistic hatred on both ends (the reason for the events cited in 1914). Don’t forget the turks killed in selanik.

Nationalism The Turkification (massacre) in Asia Minor/Anatolia began before the invasion of the Greek army... I am a Turk and this is Turkey's problem. They have never faced up to their crimes and paid the price, which is why they recklessly continue similar crimes against Kurds and Alevis. As an objective observer and researcher, I do not believe that both sides are angels. But let's be honest, nothing compares to the amount of crimes committed by the Ottomans/Turks.... There is not a single village or city in all of Turkey that the Turks themselves founded...
