The Kansas Jayhawks football team have called David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium home for over a century. Located in Lawrence, Kansas, the 47,233-capacity stadium was built in 1921 and has largely stayed the same since (besides the addition of upper decks and a press box). I was in Western Kansas when I read about the impending demolition of this historic stadium, so I rushed over to Lawrence to capture the stadium with my drone!
Nicknamed "The Booth," it is the seventh-oldest college football stadium in the country and is recognized as the oldest west of the Mississippi River. The stadium is dedicated as a memorial to Kansas students who died in World War I and in honor of KU alumnus and donor David G. Booth, who donated $50 million to overhaul the facility.
On August 15, 2023, the university announced plans for a complete rebuild of the stadium that would begin immediately following the 2023 season. This renovation requires an almost complete demolition of the existing stadium, erasing its century-long history of highs and lows of KU football.
