Love this masterpiece. I was 15 in 1975. Just started dating the most beautiful 14 year old girl on the planet. Heard this song as I rode my bicycle back from her house every night. I'm 63 now. She's 62. Married forever. She's still the most beautiful girl on the planet and we still listen to this song together and it takes us back to the summer of '75.❤

I try to explain to a younger generation and even to some of my colleagues from my own age group just how magnificent the music was from 1975 to 1995 but words are not enough. If you were lucky enough to have experience this song and many many others like it as a young adult then you were truly blessed. Thank you for posting your memory. It brought back some of my own.

Because of music like this, I just want one more week in the 1970’s. As a teenager then, that was absolutely my happiest time in my life, before pain and regrets took over. This song is so hypnotic and classically played, I used to play it over and over, as it put me in a trance. "I'm Not In Love" by 10cc, released in 1975, is a classic rock ballad that stands out for its innovative production, lush arrangements, and the unique story behind its creation. The song was written by band members Eric Stewart and Graham Gouldman, and its recording process was nothing short of groundbreaking. The story begins with Stewart's exploration of a new piece of recording equipment, the Ericsson Vocoder, which allowed him to manipulate and blend sounds in innovative ways. During a recording session, Stewart began experimenting with the device, creating a sonic landscape by layering vocal harmonies and other sounds. The band soon realized they had stumbled upon something special and decided to build a song around these experimental recordings. The distinctive vocal sound that permeates "I'm Not In Love" was achieved by recording the voices of Stewart, Gouldman, and other band members singing a multitude of notes. Each singer was asked to sustain a single note for as long as possible, resulting in a vast collection of vocal tones. These recordings were then mixed and manipulated using the Ericsson Vocoder, creating the ethereal and choir-like vocal texture that became a defining element of the song. Lyrically, "I'm Not In Love" is a complex exploration of love and denial. The protagonist of the song insists that they are not in love, yet the repeated refrain of the title suggests a tension between the denial and the underlying emotions. The lyrics capture the ambivalence and vulnerability inherent in matters of the heart, making the song relatable to a wide audience. The recording process of "I'm Not In Love" was painstaking and meticulous. The band utilized a unique technique of creating a sonic mural, layering tracks upon tracks to achieve a rich and immersive sound. The result was a groundbreaking piece of work that defied conventional expectations of what a pop song could be. Upon its release, "I'm Not In Love" became a massive hit, reaching the top of the charts in multiple countries. Its success was not only due to the captivating production but also the emotional resonance of the song. The innovative use of vocal techniques and production methods in "I'm Not In Love" set it apart as a trailblazer in the world of pop music, influencing subsequent generations of musicians and producers. "I'm Not In Love" remains a timeless classic, celebrated for its artistry, innovation, and ability to capture the complexities of human emotions. The song's enduring popularity is a testament to its status as a groundbreaking piece of musical history.

@@pattyoconnell1950s When I was six and in first grade, there was a boy in my classroom who was so different from the other kids. I was a little girl, but I felt this little boy's spirit. One day, he was no longer in our classroom. He and his family moved from Chicago to the suburbs in the fall of 1973. I felt that he would have been the only one who I could relate to, and I was right. I never saw him again, but met some of his neighbors in a restaurant who told me that he was still a very kind, quiet, humble person who married a very good woman. I felt that at that point, I would be eaten by savages...and I was.

There is a cool story about how, while they were recording, thinking about vocal fills, the studio secretary popped her head in to announce a phone call or something trite, and they realized they found the voice for “Big boys don’t cry”… What a great song, what a great time to have grown up. Firstly, I love your moniker! Mr Fife happened to be my favorite character on Andy Griffith - he was the best and made me laugh hysterically every episode. 🤣 His antics were over the top; he was hilarious. Secondly, the story about who did the fill for the line "Big boys don't cry" is interesting. I'd never heard that. Thirdly, the 70s were indeed a magnificent time to grow up... I had just entered University and this song was one of my favorites at the time. I played the album so much I'm surprised I didn't wear it completely out. 😅 And lastly, your analogy regarding the length of our lives and "pulling up stakes" soon is somehow comforting to me. It's a beautiful way to visualize a sometimes difficult concept to grapple with. I like your style - we'll simply have to find another place to set up our tents when we're done camping here on earth. Surely the infinite has millions of places for us each and all to find the perfect spot in paradise to rest. Bless you for sharing such a beautiful image. It comforts me in this my sixth+ decade. 🥰💞🏕🌕🪐⭐️ Best wishes, Bhörn

@Larry DeLeau I always heard that heart beat too! The song is beautiful, music like that is so good for the world but too many people now don't understand that.

I just can't think of a better engineered track than this in my lifetime. Everything has it's own space. Vocals so crisp and clear. I mean, PERFECT!

this is what jumped out at me, especially its modernity...I'm saving its playback on headphones for a summery daybreak 🍸 I was 9 when this came out, and this is the LONE inter-stellar recording ever since...its championship's blowing me away, beautiful song in SO many ways...I love how his pals mustn't have taken the whole TV studio seriously there, for they seemed to have teased that smooth percussive singer into actually losing his line 🍺

@@FRANKLOMBARDI-iv5xs After reading your comment I listened to the song again and just started tearing up, Thanks alot Frank 😥💟 Lol...lol... But for real it really is so great to read that you have the same feelings about that time in our lives. But yeah I did cry I know that's probably silly and a little embarrassing for me to even say Everything seemed so different then and I think oh no am I sounding like my parents when they talked about their time, Maybe I am wrong but I believe we had the best it just seems like a more selfish world now.And that song (all the songs then) Was great!! I will cherish all of that always! Well I thank you again so much for sharing. Take care and stay safe!! Hey can I ask you something? That song when he says "I'm not in love "...From a guy's view he really is in love right? Does he just not want to admit it? Lol ...I had to ask...LOL LOL. 🤗

What a unique love song. So rich with dreamy music and vocals. The strong denial of being in love of course means he is in love ...he is just wrestling with coming to grips with that reality. Can totally relate. Ahhh....to be a teenager again.
