Usually I love your stuff, Will, but to be honest I have a BIG problem with this one! The Antarctic is the last big, pristine wilderness on Earth, and I find the idea of paying twelve grand for a day trip or a hundred for a week (or whatever the numbers were...) frankly obscene! I saw a report a while back now that showed that plastic Coke bottles and carrier bags had already been spotted on the ocean floor there, drifting in from thousands of miles away - how long before a few uber-rich tourists with more money than sense start dropping stuff too? The place should be off-limits to anyone except climate scientists, in my view, learning stuff that will benefit us all in the years to come. I also thought the "way outside my budget" schtick was a bit crass too - clearly it's not as you were there: unless of course someone paid the bill, in which case there should have been full disclosure! Sorry! Taking your dad on a Rocky Mountains luxury train ride, your mum to New York on the Cunarder or yout missus on the Orient Express is one thing, I'd happily do those trips myself had I the money, but I'm afraid this was all a little bit - no a BIG bit! - too much for my palate, I'm afraid. Just my honest opinion, I'm afraid. That said, a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and yours.

Sorry Trek Trendy but I've had to give you a thumbs down. I love your content, and I think this must have been a fantastic experience for you. But, tourism to Antarctica threatens everything that makes it special. Microscopic soot particles from jets and ships is accelerating man made climate change at the poles. KZitem doesn't allow me to share links, but some google fu will lead you to studies and articles with regards the effects of polar tourism.
