I am so sure I am going to build it I have bookmarked the page. Now all I need is good weather and the police to stop chasing people off the mountain and handing out finds!

Good stuff Ian, thank you for your time creating the vid, I can buy the bits now 🙂, my project for the weekend. The internal ATU within the 991A will make it very wide banded should you wish to engage the ATU, although it doesn’t seem to need it.

Yes I think you’ll be fine ATU-less Adam, but could bring it into play if you wander right up the top end of 10 perhaps. Have fun 😀

I am sooo tempted to build that for taking up a hill, but I would need to have it at 90 degrees for vertical use for CB. Of course I would need to to be a lot higher for that and that brings its own problems. That is a nice easy aerial to build, I say aerial as I am not American. I think I will build it after the nicer weather comes in, I can always shorted it later for 10Mtrs. I say hill, its a mountain and I can drive to the top lol.

Worth a try Bob as it costs very little. I can fit 3m lengths inside my car, so /P is an option for me too! I’m guessing there’s stations out there using beams on 27, so others who are horizontal? Have fun Bob 😀
@BoB4jjjjs
3 жыл бұрын
@@ianxfs Most people I knew of used beams vertically unless DXing and even then they were usually vertical. But elsewhere is the world they can be horizontal and if DXing by the time the signal get there it could be either or both anyway. It wouldn't be hard to go Vertical, bur "T" piece and can be vertical or horizontal easily, only thing is vertical needs a lot more height just to clear the ground. Cheers for the idea, it will be built in summer. Maybe even tried out if Covid restrictions are lifted.

i have your great design almost finished, my elements drooped a lot but my local garden Centre just happened to get a bail of bamboo lengths in, so I reinforced the elements with internal bamboo supports and wow what a difference now. my only question please is the distance between each element and the driven element critical as you tighten the ends of each element with cord allowing the elements to reach correct length ???
@ianxfs
Жыл бұрын
Hi Paul. I’m guessing if you’ve made the spreaders more stiff with the bamboo, then they may not bend as much as on mine. If you tape the end of the spreaders where the wire crosses the end then the width of the director and reflector are fixed by this tape and stops the spreaders widening from each other at the ends. Your line on the sides can then tension to the correct spacing between all three elements. You may have to shorten your bamboo inserts so that there’s enough bend on the ends of the spreaders so they can flex to allow your gap adjustment. Once achieved, you can then line up and fix the driven element on the mast. Like I said earlier, my mk2 version with long bamboo canes was the one I thought was best. Still have it. Good luck 👍🏻

Hi Paul. I can’t remember, but you’ll see in part 1 at 6:00 you’re trying to achieve a tension that gives you the correct width across the front and rear elements….

hi there i have one more question you may be able to help with please.i have your design built and up and running, however i notice my reflector droops a bit lower than the director ,do the elements need to be in line ,will the bigger droop affect the performance of the beam?,,any thoughts?
@ianxfs
7 ай бұрын
If you can line them up, all the better. Just tighten up the reflector on the arms. Not the end of the world if you leave as is, but worth tweaking 👍🏻
@ianxfs

ps. Just check the overall outer edge measurements so ensure you’re not going way off the rectangle. You may find it’s something else causing the droop. Should be easy to sort. Have fun! (See also video on Mk 2 version).

hi i have copied your design fitted my 3 spreaders its the main spreader i don't understand ,you show each end of spreader with two ends ,this has me confused? i thought it would only be one conductor length along the coax fed element?

Hi Paul. Yes the design has capacitive loading at the ends of the driven elements. It’s in the design in the video shown before and during the build.

Yes but what about a Slim-Jim antenna for the CB band made rigid by putting it in a piece of fibreglass pipe as PVC pipe will melt at 27.000MHZ

I like your idea of a slim jim - but PVC will not melt at 27MHz (where did that notion come from?) so Ian's antenna is a good directional solution.
@DAVIDGREGORYKERR
3 жыл бұрын
@@M0RMY 27MHZ is the resonant frequency of the Chlorine atom that is part of the PVC so yes PVC will get warm and soften and possibly melt.
