Can I submit this to the Mercy Culture pastors? In Jesus day, only men could divorce their wives. And the leading cause of divorce was the barreness of the woman who brought shame on to a family line by not being able to produce an heir. Jesus' word of knowledge was not judging her sin. He didn't come to condemn the world. Rather in the midst of her shame, he accepted and even taught her as a rabbi, showing her the ultimate of acceptance and the opposite of the shame she had lived with all her married life...one translation says that love gives the benefit of the doubt. Her joy was in the removal of her heavy burden evidenced by her exuberant seeking out people rather than avoiding them as before.
