I have a lot of favorite cars from many different brands, manufacturers, countries, body styles, & purpose. But these 11 car brands share an exclusive commonality in something so simple as in their name: 5 letter characters spell out their brand. Now it’s not simple too figure out, because easy pronunciation isn’t exactly the key: Ac-ur-a is 3 syllables while Dodge is only 1 syllable & the majority of others are 2 syllables. So why 5-Letters?
The 11 Car Brands:
Acura: The luxury & newly self-proclaimed performance brand of Honda Motor Co.
Buick: The Oldest Car Company in America (c. 1899). The company is not just known for boring, comfy living-room style boats, but they also built some really exciting muscle cars in the 60’s & 70’s.
Dodge: The company dominated the muscle car era with a tuning name you may have heard of that is certainly forged in history: MOPAR. If that’s not enough, CUMMINS also supplied Dodge with some of the most powerful & capable heavy-duty pick-up trucks in history.
Honda: Now this brand I have a personal loyalty and affinity towards. Honda/Acura has made some of the best handling front-wheel drive tunable cars known in existence. The Civic, Accord, Prelude, CRX, Integra, Legend, etc. For all the Honda haters out there, the company does not just make “wrong-wheel” drive cars: NSX, S2000…the list goes on, not too mention they also have some of the greatest two-wheels ever. That’s right Honda originally started as a Motorcycle company & still to this day manufacture some of the most reliable & coolest motorcycles in the world! Throw a leg over a CBR Sports-bike & you’ll see what I’m talking about.
Isuzu: A curve-ball for you millennials out there? Have you seriously never heard of Isuzu? They gave Americans the Rodeo & Trooper. Still no? Okay so this Japanese car company didn’t receive quite the same success as their counterparts, however they are still not too be overlooked. For instance, the 1987 Isuzu Impulse RS Intercooled was a competitor to the Hachi-Roku (AE86 Corolla) & other notable Turbocharged Rear-wheel drive sports cars from the 80’s & 90’s.
Lexus: The quintessential Luxury car brand from Japan. Lexus has provided the world with many exhilarating luxury vehicles: some with ground-breaking amenities & others with exceptional performance. Here are some of the JDM heroes worth mentioning: Lexus LFA, IS300/Altezza, GS/Aristo, SC/Soarer, GX/Land Cruiser Prado, LC500.
Lucid: The fastest sedan known to man, it’s an EV (sorry 😔). I have driven and ridden in all models of Tesla, why can’t they even be comprehensively close to the luxuries offered from this dream automobile?
Mazda: My 2nd favorite Japanese car brand. Mazda has acheived some serious feats: 1st Japanese car company to win the Lemans race in a 2.6 Liter 4-rotor 787B, established as a reputable Luxury Japanese Car Brand & 2nd most popular car Make in Japan, & they brought to the masses a 20th century combustion engine: the Rotary or Wankel engine. Did you know that many modern Ford passenger cars are built with Mazda parts & technology? My Ford Focus 2.0 Liter Turbo is a variation of the Mazda MZR engine.
Scion: Toyota marketed this new brand in the early 2000’s to the younger buyers looking for something hip & cool to be different, yet still as responsible & reliable as a Toyota. The brand failed & became extinct very quickly, but the one model that is much appreciated amongst car enthusiasts is the Scion FR-S (2012-2016). A spirited FR-layout sports-cars with a Porsche Cayman like low-center of gravity.
Tesla: The pioneer of the mass-produced electric vehicle. Elon Musk, whether you respect or despise the man, has revolutionized the automobile & arguably has the most technologically advanced EV’s on the market.
Volvo: Sweden 🇸🇪 has some cool cars yo! Volvo has racing heritage & for the longest time has been regarded as one of the safest cars to own. I particularly enjoy seeing a boxy wagon slammed smoking tires & sending it with a loud exhaust & STU-TU-TU Turbo flutter sounds!
