I still follow no white after Labor Day to Easter as just going to get muddy in sloppy weather. Plus, ingrained in me and old habits die hard. Even hard to wear bright colours during this time too. There also is the rule about no more than three colors to be worn at the same time. I find this to be helpful as keeps focused and not look like a clown.

For those of us who travel often, having a large wardrobe is more a burden than a benefit; and I must concur with quality outweighing quantity. As for 5A, I break the monochromatic ideology frequently as I have adopted the ivy style. I love using color in my outfits as a way to set me apart from the crowd...and if you do it right, women will notice you more. This ties into number 4. To me, fashion trends are like new cars; shiny, bold styling on the outside with the latest gadgetry, but likely to not last very long.

@MEKKANNOID

What on earth should a gentleman in the real world want with such a thing? I can think of only a few reasons why a modern gentleman would be handling a gun: If he is a soldier, I imagine he has some sort of rifle while engaged in active service, and I can't see that fitting into a holster. He may of course also have a pistol or similar in a holster, but both will have been issued to him, to be worn with uniform anyway, and only to be used while on duty. No need to worry about what sort of holster to wear in his spare time, to carry a gun he's not got with him. Much the same argument if he's an armed police officer or with some sort of security force, he'll be wearing uniform and using whatever equipment he's been issued with. When hunting or partaking in recreational shooting for sport, surely only rifles would be used, no? And.....that's it? At least I can't think of anything else... The remark about tailoring jackets to fit over (and conceal!) a holstered weapon honestly perplexes me... are you a criminal? Perhaps someone can enlighten me here - I hope none of this has come across as aterribly argumentative, I'm just genuinely unsure what to make of this...

I take issue with a lot of the footwear "rules", and would have liked to see them addressed. Although, I believe in some of your other videos you actually advocate adhering to a good many of them, so maybe that's why they weren't included. Eg if you're interviewing you need a plain toe or at most plain cap-toe single oak sole shoe. Considering that longwings were the defacto business standard for a good part of the 20th century, it seems like a strange rule to have developed. I also think that dainty looking soles and heels don't really convey the "BDE" of a highly polished pair of double oak gunboats, and while a pair of shortwing Loakes with huge brogue holes and a bulbous toe would look out of place with a suit, sure, but there are plenty of Balmoral shortwings that IMO look just fine with one. On the flip side, you can adhere to the "rules" with a pair of clunky looking Clark's plain-toes and still look like you just got off your nursing shift at the hospital.

Color coordination should be kept in mind and the amount of deviation that one can get away with deals largely upon ones age. What the young man in his 20's can get away with is strictly out of the question for the older gentlemen. As for belts, once again age plays as a major factor. Being one that is over 60, personally I would never wear a tie as a belt, leave that to the 20's to 30's group. In the end discover your style whether flamboyant, conservative or somewhere in between.

It is unclear to me why KZitem recommended these videos to me, a female, but I watch them with enjoyment even though I do not always agree with everything said. What I do NOT enjoy, however, is the rudeness of some of the individuals who make comments. Personal attacks are never appropriate and certainly are not gentlemanly. Constructive criticism is one thing, but I have seen some truly brutal personal comments posted after some of the videos and directed at both of the presenters. I do not understand why those posters are on a site intended for gentlemen. Certainly people should feel free to criticize, provided their criticism is intelligent, polite, and constructive; otherwise, they are just trolls. I enjoy Preston Schlueter's delivery. The speed of his delivery is perfect, not too fast and not too slow, and so is his enunciation. Never do I have an issue understanding anything he says. If some people find his delivery a little stiff or unnatural, I am sure that will cease to be an issue with time; I have noticed improvement just in the few weeks that I have been watching the videos, although I never found him displeasing to begin with. In other words, cut him some slack; sometimes it takes a little while to get comfortable in front of a camera.

Amazed at the ignorance and rudeness at some of the comments; there are some who just seem to be permanently angry with someone or something else, and rather than deal with that honestly, they make personal remarks about a person they don't know at all. This young man is extremely tall, quite thin, and clearly has a degree of physical disability: that does not make it acceptable to mock him. And anyway, there's nothing to mock - he dresses well; his advice is good; his voice is clear and understandable, which is very useful for those of us with hearing problems - sheer volume is no use to me, for one. Even the worst of comments here aren't as bad as some things you'll find on KZitem - but that doesn't make rudeness, cruelty, and offensiveness any better. To the one who said 'this guy creeps me out' - well if so, go and watch someone more to your taste. What creeps me out are people who can master a computer keyboard, but can't manage to stop themselves behaving like jerks.

I didn't even realize Preston was new, as a newcomer to the channel. All the comments about Preston as opposed to the topic presented caught me off guard, so I'm quite surprised frankly!

So I'm kinda new to this channel but I know who Sven is and at first I was a little confused about Preston (since this is my first time watching Preston). I will say I love Preston as a presenter and I hope to see more of him

"Rules" like "No white before Memorial Day /after Lab(o)ur Day" only applied to the US anyway. On this side of the pond people wouldn't have known, let alone bothered about something like "Memorial Day". For centuries Europeans did not look to the US for advice on sartorial style.

I think the problem most people have with him is the fact that he reminds us of what an android would be if they exist. From the facial expressions that seem emotionless or the robotic words.

What about the “rule” relating to wearing a steel banded sports watch with a suit? Is that rule out of date or still in place? I’d guess it is similar to the “rule” about wearing brown in town.

Finally a Gentlemans Gazette video that isn't so conservative in style tips. In order to have real men style, this is the video to watch. The tip of wearing tan or light colored suits to a business environment is nothing new. In the 70s, 80s, early 90s, men were wearing light colors business suits all the time. It wasn't until the boom of the American menswear designers thats said business attire should be dark slacks and a blue shirt.

i like preston. even though he seems kinda robotic, he'd probably steal your girl based off his facial structure alone
