I would recommend Reader Rock Garden across the Erlton Station and Stampede Ground. You’ll not see it right away if you’re just passing by the road except for the huge sign. It’s a garden that I always go to every summer. The former house of Reader was turned into a restaurant. Beside the garden is the Union Cemetery which offer free guided tour if you want to hear about the pioneers and history of Calgary. Also joined the Jane’s Walk for free tours in different parts of the City. I joined the Gay History and East Village Walking Tour in the spring and would love to do it annually.

@hanninencraig this really depends more on your social group than the city. Areas like 17th Ave and Stephen Ave are bustling and very busy with nightlife (especially in summer). We have lots of music fests like Sled Island, Chasing Summer and Folk Fest. I agree though, places like Toronto or Vancouver have much more to do but you'll pay a hefty price for it.

@@LifeofHum After living in Ontario for over 20 years and Calgary for about 8 I will say Calgary winters are much better. We get chinooks and this year we've had a lot (warm winds roll in and it's 0-15 Celsius for a week or two). The cold does come, but it's dry and in snaps. Ontario gets humid cold where its -30 and feels like -45. So they are no stranger to the cold weather!

@brittanymorgan09

I don't know of any outdoor pools in Calgary but there is a hotel pool that anyone can use at Hotel Arts in the Beltline - I think it's about $25/pp. It's not something I'd do, but a great option for swimming in warmer water! Otherwise, we get our fix for cooling down in the summer by floating the Elbow and Bow Rivers (though they are incredibly cold).

Parking downtown can be difficult but you can usually find a spot on the street or a parkade. There's lots of free spots to park on the weekend but it can be pricey during the week depending on where you park. I'd check out Park Plus, those are the zones we always try to find. They have an app and you can do everything on your phone or use a pay station. I hope that helps! Thanks ☺️
