I heard that using the Hellcat in a daily basis is kind of annoying in terms of maneuvering due to: 1. The weight 2. It is hard control when maneuvering So my question is. Can you drive it like you drive Mustang Shelby for example or it needs super extra focus to control?
@GasSmileage
3 жыл бұрын
I’ve never driven a Shelby but the hellcat will surprise you in a good way when you drive it. Definitely don’t need extra focus unless you’re pushing hard. The weight is handled extremely well and the only time you’ll notice it is in corners. The varying suspension modes give you the ability to modify how stiff you like your ride which helps a lot but I don’t think it would drive like a Shelby in terms of maneuvering.

I feel your pain John, the brake dust is out of control and if your wheels are in good enough shape, I’d recommend having them taken off and ceramic coated. It will make cleaning them much easier and eventually you can swap to ceramic brake pads to help with that too. My muffler tips are completely black too at this point. I didn’t realize they were a different color until my friend said something during a wash. A thread on the Hellcat forums seems to suggest that 1 in 20 hellcats will be problem free. The other 19 will make good use of their warranty. Sucks that the quality isn’t there in all regards but it’s still beyond impressive in many ways. Drive safe and thanks for watching/commenting!

The NASCAR boys are using 50 psi on their outside tires for many years and they would like to use more if only they were allowed to. 36 PSI in the corners is just not going to work.

I figured maintenance costs whether it’s for brakes, insurance, gas, tires, etc would be a turn off no matter what vehicle you’re driving. Of course some of these costs are amplified with the hellcat but I tried to come up with a more unique list of annoyances based on my experiences. The saying ignorance is bliss holds very true when driving a hellcat as a daily. To think of the individual costs constantly while driving around would take away from the enjoyment. I hope I’m wrong about electric vehicles but I’m investing in the experience of what could be a dying breed of vehicles. Gas guzzling V8s with a supercharger on top from the factory, I’m willing to work a bit harder in the now to enjoy that. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Honestly the blind spots never bothered me at all. Get the driver convenience package for extra assurance, and adjust your mirrors properly. If you can see the side of your car in the mirror without leaning, your mirrors are not adjusted correctly. The one majoy issue is y-shaped intersections, where you're coming down the small arm of the y, have to stop, and merge onto the long arm of the y. (the intersection has a sharp angle and you're turning across two lanes following the obtuse angle) The solution is simple though. Turn against the turn; turn as though you're making a right instead of a left so your car is more perpendicular to the road you are merging onto, and you'll be able to see just fine. Do not take those turns without angling your car though, or you'll be pulling out with a prayer lol. Apart from those intersections explicitly I've daily driven my SXT for over a year and a half and never run into issues with blind spots. Course my previous car was a 2011 malibu and they had some pretty big rear pillars too, so maybe I am just used to using my mirrors.

Imagine having a supercharged 700hp car with a factory power train warranty lasting 60,000 miles that you paid no where close to $70,000 for. I changed the oil just before 6k and if following the owners manual results in a catastrophic failure of their engine, they replace it under warranty. I’m not saying that waiting that long is a good idea and that I’ll be doing that again but I wouldn’t expect following the operating manual would cause any issues or have a KZitem hellcat expert pop up. Manual doesn’t say 8000, it says don’t exceed 6000 or 6 months, which ever comes first. Neither of which was exceeded. The problem is hundreds of miles before 6k and four months after last change, the engine threw a code for low oil pressure. Stop commenting like you have any idea what you’re saying. I agree Codi but that being said, a used Hellcat with a warranty can be found for 44-52k, I think if someone else takes the haircut on the sticker price, there’s pretty great value to be had in the used market. Thanks Hunter, I appreciate that. Yeah lesson learned, I’ll be changing it more frequently in the future and myself so I can monitor exactly how much comes out and goes in. Warranty has saved me from some big repairs so far so keep that in mind if going for an older model hellcat. You can always extend the warranty through mopar. I say get one but just make sure you cover yourself with a warranty. You can not realistically make any list of hellcat turn offs and not mention, tires, gas, and maintenance. Those rotors that are now being eaten into by your ceramic pads are 1k apiece. Tune up at 36k, replacing all 16 spark plugs.

I agree that they are major turn offs but I didn’t want to include turn offs people would expect. I haven’t met anyone yet that likes paying for gas, tires, or maintenance but those costs weren’t as high as I was expecting them to be so they really haven’t bothered me. 6K miles on an oil change? Are you serious? In a performance car? You seriously went 6K miles on an oil change? I go 3500 MAX, on ALL my vehicles, not just the Cat. Dude!! Oil, is oil, is oil, IS OIL!! And a motor STILL generates heat and breaks OIL DOWN. That oil consumption is on YOU! And your window issue with the auto up is a little odd as BOTH of mine are auto up. Not sure, but you might've gotten a Chimera. You may need to ask a dealer what's what with that one.
@GasSmileage
3 жыл бұрын
I agree that 6k miles is a bit on the extreme side but in all fairness, the owner’s manual states 6k is the end of their recommended oil change lifespan. I got the car with 13k, I did first oil change at 16k in April, second at just before 22k in September, third at 25k at end of Dec. Car was low on oil at both the second and third oil changes. Chrysler has stated up to 1 quart burned per 1000 miles is acceptable by their standards but you and I both know that’s not a characteristic of a healthy engine. There are plenty of cat owners who experience little to no oil loss between oil changes of 3-6k in range and then there’s engines like mine that drink the oil. I don’t mind topping off the oil between changes but I don’t want to be one of the only few cat owners doing so. What year is yours? That’s super strange about the auto windows.
@onebgbdartemis1381
3 жыл бұрын
@@GasSmileage yeah, but that gets customers to come in with more wear and tear meaning more repairs or more new cars. The technology for oil hasn't changed near enough to safely go anywhere near even 5K miles in these cars. In fact, it should be noted that as tolerances have gotten tighter with regards to engine machining, that the breakdown of oil actually increases. I have an '11 Ram quad cab 1500 5.7 that has had full synthetic since day one with 4K mile oil change intervals and it uses zero oil after 135000 miles. Of heavy, near 9K towing for a good majority of it's work life. But yeah, heat is inescapable, especially in these supercharged engines. Oil can not stand up to 5K, even full synthetic. I noticed that AS1 line on my wife's ScatPak too. That's the silliest thing I've seen. My charger doesn't have it that far up, it's where you'd expect it to be. I'd also say your car was probably fairly well abused before you got it.
@onebgbdartemis1381

@@GasSmileage mine is an '18. The only thing I can think of on the windows is I got the drivers convenience group. That may be what has that option. But oddly enough, my '11 Ram Sport has both windows auto up, but a manual passenger seat!! All's I can attribute it to is....Dodge!! And between oil changes I have about 3 to 4 oz. of oil in the catch can on the Cat btw.
@GasSmileage
3 жыл бұрын
I didn’t know that, I appreciate you sharing. I suspect you’re right about the abuse from previous drivers. As you’ve pointed out, these engines need a bit more love and maintenance than most are used to giving. Seeing as it was a lease vehicle, it’s not crazy to think it wasn’t cared for like it should have been. I’m currently in the middle of an oil consumption test with Dodge so I’m very curious to see if they find any issues.
@GasSmileage
3 жыл бұрын
Knowing Dodge, it probably is an option lol. That’s about how much oil my catch can collected too between the last change. I had to take it off for the oil consumption test and it pains me to know how much oil I’m pushing back through.
