This is the first time I have searched: old school exercises from the 1920s. Some of the exercises I know about, most of them I will be testing. The barbell get up is used in some martial arts - minus the bar & weights. Mainly to help the student learn how to get up off the floor as quickly as possible for a variety of reasons - many arts will teach you how to fight from the floor - I am not referring to the main stream type styles - am referring to little known styles.

Great video overall! These lifts need more exposure, especially the Turkish get-up! One little quibble my understanding of the old rules on on one hand deadlifts is that sumo stance was prohibited although straddling the bar is acceptable. I haven't found a wide stance to be that helpful anyway honestly.

I don't have any idea what the original rules were for the single arm deadlift. Is that an Olympic thing or was sumo stance universally frowned upon? I personally find it more comfortable to do single arm deads in a wide stance.

Joe Rogan swears by the Turkish Get-up. I’ve never tried them myself. I might try it with a dummy, but not a barbell. I don’t want to drop a barbell on my head. I’m sure a dumbbell would be hard enough.

I love this! I know it’s not “cool” today, but I’m not a fan of all the fancy new stuff going on in fitness. I’ve never been into the machines. I’m a free weights guy. Except when I was in the Army and used the fitness centers on Post, I’ve been a home gym guy. Barbells, dumbbells, pull up bar, gymnastics rings is my stuff. Very basic. I can’t really think of much you couldn’t accomplish with barbells and dumbbells. So this content is really cool. Love the old timey singlet too. Nice touch. Sub’d 👍🏻

I do something like the kettlebell lateral raise and hold but with clubbells, the clubbell iron cross. Fantastic exercise for reps or static holds. Start and finish position is with your hands behind your neck, clubs pointing down, and there is something of a push/pull tension going on to extend the arms to the sides. Great for stabilizing the shoulders, and the unbalanced weight of the club is similar to the bottoms up kettlebell. Works so many muscles in conjunction, from grip to lats and abdominals. Clubbell iron cross!

Thank you for putting together a video with all these great exercises. If creating a routine including these exercises. How would you divide the exercises per workout and what frequency (times per week) sets and reps would you do?
@BullsStrength
2 жыл бұрын
I would honestly incorporate a wider variety of exercises than what's on here. It's just not very well balanced. I would incorporate some of these exercises into already existing days in your training routine. Like after doing bench press, throw in some chest expansion butterfly and cheat curls. Or after doing squats, work in some hack squats and Reeve's deadlift. That sort of thing.

The kettlebell lateral hold, it would be better to use dumbells so you can hold them thumbs up. Of course you can do it slightly with kettlebells but will put unwanted tension on wrist.

It definitely is very similar feeling to a snatch grip deadlift. Pro tip: Use a trap bar for Reeve's deadlift, that way your grip isn't nearly as wide. Thanks for the compliment!

The hack squat was completed incorrectly, the squat was done with weightlifting shoes to mimick the original heels-off-the-ground version shown around page 68 in george hackenschmidt's the way to live. edit: page 70, not 68.

@BullsStrength

@@kamo7293 I prefer the alternating grip. I hear people say that hook is superior, but I'm not a fan of feeling the tendons in my thumbs get smashed and torn when I deadlift. These days I just use chalk and lifting straps, since I don't compete in powerlifting anymore and don't plan to anytime soon.
