Excellent video! For quite awhile I thought I just NEEDED to move up to 11 spd, even though I have 10 spd on both my bikes. But really, after working on several friends' bikes with newer Ultegra and DA, I realized I'm not missing out on much. Sure, it's a little lighter and you don't have to move the shift arms quite as far, but it's so, so minor. Running 6700 on my CX/commuter bike, and 5700 shifters w/7900 derailleurs on my DengFu carbon aero bike, and as long as I keep the drivetrain tuned up I can't really find a fault with either. And I tend to have way fewer issues than my friends, even the ones running Di2 or eTap.

I've used Microshift and MicroNew shifters for a couple customers, and on a cyclocross build for myself. Used them for years and they're still going strong. Since you have experience with MicroNew shifters, i would like to ask for help. I have installed 3x7 shifters on vintage Mtb bike with shimano stx group set, because i want to turn it into budget gravel bike. But i have problem- left shiter clicks 3 times, but chain won't jump on big ring. I thought that they are compatible with shimano derailleurs? Ps.front derailleur have worked perfectly with thumb stx shifters

@@NumenorCycles good question, so ive used them with all sorts of drivetrains, most of which have been mtb sets (because i convert mtb's/ hybrids to cyclocross & gravel bikes). I have noticed the very thing youre describing, and from my recollection, it had to do with the derailure tension, and once i tweaked that, it shifted relatively fine. These shifters dont like triples for some reason, but they will work with Shimano deraileurs, i would just suggest trying to dial the deraileur into a sweet spot (Also, i know im 2 months late to this, so if you figured it out before this reply, disregard lol)

Back to sample size- I've installed the Micronew R7/L3 setup on an old 26" MTB frame of mine that suffered from a massive rear mech eating to the point of considering it for SS use only. I was able to the hanger back inline and again have these running on a Tourney TX rear/ Alivio front and they're working quite nicely. I presume a good amount of that is the envelope of operations afforded by a 3x7 setup and the ability to occasionally trim with an extra bump of the shifter. Yet considering what I paid for the brifters and the application of them I at the moment couldn't be happier, especially in light of cost to performance in comparison to Tourney brifters.

The only "con" I found is that they are not comfortable when riding on hoods and trying to brake with two fingers. This is something to consider if you use them on a gravel bike. I love my MicroNew 3x8 shifters, but the left one mechanism became broken after two years and less than 3,000 Km. I bought them just because I was "gravelizing" a hybrid Bike, and they performed as well as I expected.

Hi Great content as per usual!! - what could be interesting to explore is to have a bike build specifically for an indoor (smart/direct drive trainer), what would work, and what not? (Considering that weight isn’t important, and comfort the most) - for instance: no wheel required, alu frame could work fine... (it’s a bit out there, maybe it’s nothing maybe it could be fun) Also thing like a floor mat, a fan, etc.

I had the 10 speed version of those shifters, but had issues with the pull ratio or something wasn't right. Either way didn't work with tiagra 4600 which I think was on there. I bought the microSHIFT ones and also replaced the derailleur with microSHIFT after unsuccessfully trying SRAM apex, which should have a 1:1 pull ratio but I couldn't get to index properly. I thought my hanger was bent but it's not. The microSHIFT front derailleur's spring is super strong I wasn't happy with it, maybe I put the cable in incorrectly but I took it off multiple times to try again. My fear was the front shifter would just wear out, so I went back to my old tiagra on the front. Now everything is fine. Phew!

It's been dropped multiple times, though (lol), but it still shifts pretty well with the occasional missed shifts (I'd blame those on the knock-off Tourney TZ RD, though). Just curious, will the R11 pair well with the Sensah Empire or Ltwoo R9 RD and FD? Looking to build a cheap 2*11 speed road bike in the near future to replace my current one (3*7).

i have 8-speed version of these and the biggest problem i have is constant overshifting when shifting to a bigger cog in the back. You have to be VERY precise when actuating the lever, otherwise it overshifts to the next cog and then drops back down when you release the lever. Super annoying
