The reason that the trick at 18:22 works is because we use a Base-10 counting system. (We use digits 0-9 and then you move over a column.) Do the same trick with any other base counting system (We will call it Base-x) and the result will always be x - 1.
@gordonastley
Жыл бұрын
I couldn’t follow the maths. Can someone give me the formula, please?
@Lightning_Lance
Жыл бұрын
@@gordonastley in simple words, all you need to know is if a number is divisible by 9, then the sum of it's digits will be divisible by 9. And the new number made by the sum of the digits of the previous, since that is divisible by 9, then the sum of IT'S digits will also be divisible by 9. So as long as the original number is divisible by 9, then you can keep reducing the number in this way until you get to 9. And anything that involves 3 * 3 at some point (or any multiples of 3) will be divisible by 9, so you make someone multiply enough numbers together at the start and it's practically guaranteed.

I pull them out - jingle in my hand - and put them into a napkin. Then progress from there - adds a wee bit of more mystery......I thought jeez if Im cutting a penny in half then I might as well us both....adds another layer of randomness to the mark. The card trick. 7 clubs. But the methodology was different I suppose. I zeroed in at first because it's the only black card on the table, so your eye is drawn there, but obviously you'd change your choice because you want to outsmart the performer so you'd probably choose the 4, you also pointed to the club making it super obvious so the observer changes thier mind. I didn't I stuck with it. But if you apply that logic in reverse it baffles them. Derren brown does this kind of stuff. His shoe trick is a great example. It's a set up to a later payoff, but it's about getting people to second guess. His famous "always change your mind" goof

The number nine trick works because as soon as you add the sum of any number above nine then subtract it from the original number that number will become divisible by 9 .
