Wow, did NOT expect that much of a difference between the LIFX and the Hue bulbs. It makes me want to swap out some of my Hue's for LIFX because the ambient lighting in my family room needs to be brighter than what the Hue's can do. BUT, those lights are synced to the Hue Sync box. Grrrr. (Special bonus for "Huemongous"!)

I initially started with the LIFX bulbs. They were definitely an impressive bulb with some fantastic brightness and color... but the scenes were just a little too vibrant for me. I was looking for a "fireplace, date night, relax after work" vibe but got a "rage, rage hard, never stop, gamers live here, naked dance party"... returned them and went with Philips Hue.

I’m curious if the Lifx are more harsh on the eyes in terms of the ambiance over time. You can see it in the first comparison where the deep red is like a solid line where as the philips hue 1100, albeit less bright, is very smooth in the fade. you’ve proved to me in this video that lumens are not the only quantifier for quality :) awe makes me want to get back in the review game! Wow, LIFX is knocking it out of the park on the brightness. Can you do a video comparing the wake-up features of the two brands? I've been thinking about buying some instead of a stand-alone wakeup light alarm clock but I love the extremely gradual light fade that the HF3520 and the HF3670 offer.

Considering the hue bulb puts out a significant amount of light to the back(the shape allows light to go behind the bulb a fair amount) you should maybe try a fixture that doesn't completely remove that portion of light. LIFX seem to project most of it forward which suits that small lamp you're using. I'm not saying the LIFX isn't brighter, just wondering if shape/dispersion isn't a big factor. Maybe try a diffusing light to test, like one of the white glass ball type fixtures to capture ALL of the light? Some bulbs may suit certain fixtures more. LIFX for flush fitting fixtures, Hue may suit glass fixtures etc for example?

I'm pretty sure that doing the light bulb comparison tests in that spotlight fixture is skewing your results between the LIFX and Hue bulbs. The LIFX bulb design tends to project the light more straight out the top of the bulb (and thereby straight out of the spotlight fixture you're using) while the hue bulbs tend to spread the light more evenly around the bulb itself (including more light downward towards the socket). Basically I imagine more of the light coming from the Hue bulbs might be getting "trapped" or "lost" by getting absorbed in the interior of the spotlight fixture than with the LIFX bulb. I imagine the LIFX bulbs are still brighter and we know they are more vibrant but maybe not quite as dramatically so?

I saw another reviewer a week or two ago showing the new 1100 hue and it was same as you, they are not that much of an improvement, maybe on the whites but color saturation and brightness of the colors are a let down, I too think they should have just replace the 800 with those but… as Paul Hibbert says: corporate greed!!!” I really like the Lifx they are by far the best bulbs and lights out there and perfectly justified premium price as far as the lighting is considered, but even with hue being worse on the light (even compared to some cheaper alternatives) they definitely have the edge on ecosystem/software stability by a good margin, if only at least they start making better decisions for their customers, like just replacing the 800 with this and not add a pricier option with little no no improvements

I think the increase on brightness on the Lifx looks insane. I got the 1100 lumen Hue bulbs (2 of them) and the whites and maybe pinks are really the only difference, and it's only slight. What do you think of both bulbs comparing the 1100's together? Do you still prefer Hue - since you're caught in the ecosystem like me? Or would you go all out Lifx if you can?

Brightness - The reason why philips say their lights have a very long working life and most of them live up to it is because, they control the amount of light emitted which thereby increases the life of the light.

The bigger issue here is how can they both claim to be "1100 lumen" ( = a measure of brightness) when one is obviously less bright? Thanks for this review, but misleading consumers is a much bigger deal.

I don't understand how the two brands can be so different in light output. Is Philips Hue falsely advertising their lightbulb's brightness? Or are the LIFX bulbs just extra strong for whatever reason. I would think that if two bulbs claim to be at the same lumen output, then the two bulbs would appear similar. This is obviously not the case as demonstrated in this vid. I like my Hue lights a lot. But I'm now a little concerned if I'm being cheated. Are the bulbs purposefully designed to be dimmer in order to make you go out and buy more lights to make up for it etc etc.

Why are Philips Hue so so bad at brightness? Don't they even compair with any other bulbs. Totally not worth the money for the 1100 . I stand by this.. Philips hue is over priced garbage, the only thing that makes them even notable is how many products they have... which is great but everything is OVER PRICED compared to other items that might be slightly more expensive but severely out performs them or even items that are cheaper that come super close in performance but are much cheaper such as Govee.. like Philips put the prices up recently making the 80inch strips 100 BUCKS with out the hub (WHICH U NEED to get full access, pushing u back 50 bucks) while the lifx strips DO FAR MORE commands are WAY BRIGHTER and DONT need a hub... and are 90 bucks.. like I said Philips hue is just a cash milking company.
