Gameplay of the unplayable character/NPC Smoke in Midway/Netherrealm’s Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks.
[Smoke has no useable moves, so I just gave his Player Scorpion’s moves]
Smoke appears in the game as a hidden NPC, where he assigns five special tasks to the player to complete. On completion of this, the player will unlock the arcade version of MK2. Well, in the US version at least; we didn’t get that in the UK. Goddamn, Midway really didn’t give a shit about Europe during this period.
I gave Smoke the moves of Player Scorpion, because they seemed the most appropriate. I absolutely adore Smoke’s design in this game; it’s ridiculously cool, and a bit too good to simply be an NPC, but the same could be said of all the NPCs I gave. Goddamn, this really is a game which begs to be hacked and modified; so much stuff here just more or less goes to waste! The spear messes up a bit with Smoke, as does the air juggles, but that doesn’t really matter in the long-run. If you wanted a hard-mode version of Scorpion, doing it as Smoke could be pretty fun, I suspect.
Last up, the final unplayable, and of course it’s another hidden ninja from MK2.
