An absolute tragedy that Tony Green's career was cut short - he would have been an all-time great.

Newcastle's first League win at old Trafford after 21 seasons! They (Newc) always looked like they've just got out of bed after a hard day doon pit. Man U looked tired, aged. Best had some magical moments but in variedly lost possession. They looked like a jigsaw with pieces that didnt fit trying to fill holes the wrong size. Going down done them good, but this was 2 years ahead so there was a lot more matches like this till then.

Terry Hibbit's skill in his own penalty area! Tony Green slight but v tidy. Man Utd awful. V average full backs. Best beginning to lose interest.

Utd looked to be disjointed, slow and ponderous on this showing. Really struggled to overcome a well-organised, tough tackling Newcastle. Got balls in beyond the penalty spot but not enough guile or quality to play 1-2's or to even hit the bye-line and get crosses in.

We'd beaten Newcastle up at their place. Top of the table early on and looking a decent bet for honours, but it all turned to crap around December when we went on a losing run of seven games on the bounce, including this one. We didn't win another match until March when we beat Huddersfield.
