Yeah... stressful situations, especially getting blown onto a reef while trying to start your engine, by hand, usually don't implore "Gee... let me set up my camera & film this."

We had a hose disconnect and all the coolant drain out while going through a pass on a coral atoll, the last thing on my mind was to grab the camera. It was the quickest we had unfurled both sails in our years of blue water sailing. Our buddy boat was filming and thought we were up for a race🤣

It's always hard to balance filming these situations and dealing with them. I didnt' turn the camera on until the Geck was turned around and safely headed back out to sea but it was definitely a choice to take that time. Thanks for appreciating it :)

Holly… your new main… be sure and use plenty of luff tension to get max out of it. Sets the draft forward, eases leech tension. You shouldn’t see any wrinkles coming off the slide attachment points. Having the luff rope carry most of the load will make your sail last longer too. Love your toughness and resilience. Bravo

What a roller coaster ride in such a small boat (15:30 17:02) and still going on deck to reef or change sails!! The way you handle it with a positive attitude and a smile make you our true hero. You are not one of these tourists on extended vacations in a fancy all automated air conditioned Delos or Vagabonde luxury yachts You are at the side of the Joshua's of this world. you deserve everything you want and your own spot in the sunshine with your name on it too. Totally know how you feel. Had a 7 day Fiji-Vanuatu run with 40-60 knots on the aft beam the whole way. Really exhausting but I can’t imagine doing it on your own and finishing with a no motor situation on a reef entrance. Well done, I hope you enjoy Vanuatu - it’s a fantastic place.

Fuck I'm so relieved that you made your journey from New Zealand to anywhere in better climates than way down here in the lower forties. I lived here all my life and springtime can be totally educational in these parts. You had fair winds and a calm though mostly overcast journey. Now you have made it away safely I feel it's safe to say that you are a world class Wind hippie. A sailor true. I thank you and God for the good passage you made because local waters can be so unforgiving and powerful. Could you show us how you reef and how you do sail changes I can't imagine doing that at night on deck solo, even jibing at night into an unknown anchorages sounds like you should hire a crew. be safe🙏♥️!

I just love your videos. I bought a project sailboat and retired a year ago to fix it up. The past few weeks have been crazy motoring from Daytona Beach to Tampa. Getting a mast in Tampa. The engine quit on several occasions and then died for good. I tied my dinghy behind the boat and am using the outboard to push the sailboat the remaining 200+ miles. Thanks for cheering me up by showing I’m not the only one having trouble. How do you keep yourself from swearing? LOL

Women sailors, I love em. Did you ever read Woman Alone by Claire Francis from the early 70s. It's like a diary with details of her stored foods etc. I hope you could write a book one day on your life sailing❤

What an arrival. I use this method when trying to handcrank a cold diesel. Give it a couple shots of oil into the intake. This will lube up the cylinder, also helping compression and making some heat when you crank. Fair winds.

I love yr honesty & simplicity. You give much information, and its raw real struggle street. Nothing pretencious - not like Im looking at the boat thinking "how did this person afford this?" Cranking the engine was interesting, . Pays then to keep another fully charged emergency battery.

Holly, take a long skinny plastic bag like the ones that flags come in, cut a small round hole in the closed end for the autotiller's ram, and slide that over the unit. You can still see the display and mash the buttons through it. Has protected my Raymarine ST1000 from rain and spray for years. Why they don't make these ATs waterproof is beyond me!

I think your engine was hydrolocked. You got it going by handcranking it with the decompression valve engaged. Nothing wrong with your battery.
