Did anyone catch Halbrand's line in ep. 8 "call it a gift" when imparting Celebrimbor with knowledge about crafting with mythril? I'm no expert but suspect that's a deliberate hat tip to the canon storyline where Sauron was not disguised as a Man called Halbrand, but an Elf called Annatar, the "Lord of Gifts" who successfully deceived Celebrimbor into forging the rings of power.

@masterexploder9668

Crafting was always associated with power in Tolkien's work. That's how all Aule's students struggled to keep on the straight path. Mairon became Sauron, Saruman also turned evil, Noldor including Feanor were tempted with power, leading to them commiting crimes like Kinslaying. Power was a corrupting influence, turning it's users greedy and malicious, meanwhile Aule was all about creating for the joy of it, freely sharing skills and fruits of his labor. Aule shaped dwarves, making them his children, though Eru needed to breath life into them, as Valar cannot create sapient beings with free will out of nothing. In a sense, dwarves are "adopted" and were prophecied to frequently butt heads with elves, which happened to often disastrous results. Tolkien does once again throw a christian reference, as when Aule is discovered, he is prepared to destroy his children, just like Abraham was ready to sacrifice Izaac in Old Testament.

And if only Galadriel had, even once, said to him "yes, fair enough, right, I'll leave you to it, bye" then none of this would have happened and Sauron would have lived out the rest of his days peacefully as Halbrand the smith and master craftsman, making beautiful items out of metal on Numenor. Sure the orcs have the newly created Mordor, but under Adar they are not really interested in world domination, so they settle down and ultimately become somewhat civilized and decent, maybe even discover toothbrushes.

Of course, he was ''forced'' to become a power-hungry mass murderer as he had no mind of his own and Galadriel imposed her will on himself or he was a butthurt incel or spoit brat... Well the moment he showed a bit to much interest in blacksmithing my suspicion was upgraded tenfold. Then the extra stenght in his fight against the numenorians kind of confirmed him being the most like sauron candidate. Then i kind of forgot as im not a book reader. And got suspicious again when those sentences were uttered by celebrimbor last episode. They threw me of the scent with hints going towards the other unconfirmed character. Who i hope is mithrandir aka gandalf. Overall this tv series is quite cool. A nice counterweight for house of dragon.

Yeah it all made sense eventually. Each week they were dropping hints I just didn’t want him to be Sauron. I’d rather it’s no one we knew and he’s an elf already in Eregion in Celebrimbors ear. I much preferred the theory that he was one of the 9 seeing as he became a King of Men. Or he was the Witch-King. But I did like how they revealed him in the end. Just wish it wasn’t obvious from the beginning 😅

All these hints flew right past me lmao. I only figured he was Sauron when he said that he's known by many names. Then kind of all the pieces went together. I did notice some of these hints but I never connected them to be Sauron. Like the smith thing, I was also thinking that he managed to create a very nice looking sword as an apprentice. I mean I didn't know that Sauron was a smith in the first place, I only knew that he created the ring and never thought anything else of it. The fight he had could have been like anything but was super suspicious indeed. I never noticed that he broke the raft in two not the fish lol.

@mrgermanvono35
Жыл бұрын
@ATalesTruth- well since Amazon wasn't given the rights to annatar they have some flexibility to change the order of how the rings were made. Either the other rings were also made off screen in the last episode (unlikely but possible) or sauron returns in another form to to help convince the elves to make more rings. Or maybe the elves just make more rings themselves but I don't know how the show will explain the 3 rings being different from the others without including Sauron being present for that. Unless it's a throw away line that it happened off screen episode 8 when halbrand was there. But the show seemed to explicitly imply that the 3 rings were the first of the rings made. Which in the poem is chronologically correct but I believe in lore the rings are made after annatar helped make the others and then he left

@@bradleywoods3742 Because he didn't want to create the One Ring at that point. After he failed to create that kind of power (Adar said that he was trying to archieve the "power on the flesh") and being betrayed by Adar, it seems Sauron genuilly wanted to live peacefully and to seek redemption (it's loosely based on something Tolkien wrote about Sauron being repented after Morgoth defeat at first).
