Thanks, Dru. That shell won the Best Exhibition Ball Shell competition at the PGI convention that Summer, which I was pleased with. Yes, they are all handmade shells. ned

I Love 12" SHELLS! My finales always include 3 dozen 12" and 5 dozen 10" shells. Floridians won't attend a display with shells smaller than 6". Waste of their time. 3" and 4" shells are just sky filler down here.

Awsome ned you are quite the artist,i bet you felt proud of yourself and the reaction from the crowd is priceless..thats what i love about creating your own fireworks....ive decided that when i die one daylol i want to be put into a 24inch shell and set off in the night sky....thats how much i love fireworks....

@Kauyon1988 That's Chrysanthemum 6, with +20% "Grape Nuts" sponge Ti, -11+17 mesh, for that long hanging tail which takes a while to develop. There are twelve 3.5" diameter, 2.25" tall comets in each 12" shell, and one on the outside. ned

@AdmiralSnider Yes, for pressed comets and stars, I ballmill the non-metal components together for an hour or so. That helps them consolidate nicely and densely. I just screen-mix comps which are to be rolled. n

@AdmiralSnider That's just the charcoal-comp burning, and then leaving the long-hanging Ti sparks behind. Solid, one comp (with Ti in it) comets.

Ok thats good congrats! I will built "just" 8" with that effect i thinked i will make the outer petal from D1 the innen with some kind of yellow stars for example kno3 nahco3 s and al . or some kind of that . And the spikes i think will some kind of flash star. Grats again colleague :)

@AdmiralSnider Those comets burn with the bright charcoal-streamer head, which burns a very bright orange-spark, leaving the trail of silver Ti sparks to light up in a delayed fashion. The comets are the same composition all the way through them. ned

And after watching many of the videos of shell making I believe I have a decent grasp to use going forward on making shells.. of course starting small.. 3 and 4 " ball shell styles with simple effects but I'm very much up to the challenge .. keep up the great work and great content .

I recently hung up the helmet and retired from racing as it was not as fun as it once was (people hate when you win too much) so I went from part time pyro hobby and racing as my main source of fun and entertainment to solely doing pyrotechnic stuff and find it to be much more relaxing and enjoyable.

What's in those palm tree fireworks? If I had to guess, I'd say the stars were chrysanthemum with some coarse titanium or ferro-titanium.

Marcus Salinas There are books, and various online resources, Marcus, including Fireworking.com. There are also local guilds, and the PGI. This is an art form which requires years to get pretty good at. Most folks can live without it. Others can't. It requires dedication and lots of practice. ned
