They're nice techniques, but I'm wondering; some of them open you up to some pretty good counter-attacks, like the double leg no hands kneebar. what stops the guy from elbowing or punching your head, possibly knocking you out, or dealing enough damage to stop you from continuing the kneebar.
@RamseyDewey
3 жыл бұрын
The fact that he’s pinned on his back, has zero leverage to put power in his punches, can barely reach your head to tickle you let alone hurt you, and the fact that his leg will be irreparably broken in about one second.
@bas9233

@@RamseyDewey he has access to the back of the head, the top of the head. he can easily strike with an elbow or a strike. Sure, he won't have the same power as if he was standing up, or sitting on top position. but those are weak parts of the head, and don't need -that- much force to cause pain or a knock out. Alternatively if he's quick enough he can put one arm around your throat while pushing the head down, causing some kind of a strangulation. The question indeed is if he can do enough damage/lock fast enough before you've locked the knees. but damage he can do.

5:23 it's weird steady strength is harder to break posture or catch an Armbar, than using smaller intermediate pumps...don't know what to call it.
@zonk834
3 жыл бұрын
i think it makes sense from a physics standpoint. basically you’re amplifying the force by a greater amount than you’d actually imagine. Force= Mass x Acceleration; if you have the same mass but an increase acceleration, you are thusly increasing the force. aka you have the same hand/arm that is performing the maneuver but are accelerating that hand at a greater speed/acceleration when “intermediately pumping” than you are when you keep a steady/constant strength. i imagine theres some sort of rebound effect (think bouncing a ball from a low height to a higher one) that amplifies force even more.

The overwhelming majority of UFC champions and top contenders come from a wrestling background. There is a very small number of fighters with a background in sanda, K1, savate, Dutch kickboxing, and American kickboxing in UFC history. People who train for those ring sports generally stay in those ring sports.

I think the idea that Ramsey was trying to point out is that only grabbing the head for that particular takedown is not as effective as grabbing the head and underarm. The glaring issue for me is that Ramsey has no way to control his opponents backwards movement without grabbing the lat. even if he was wrapped around the neck, the opponent could still shimmy their neck out to take the back. There is just too much space and not enough body mechanics on the side of the defender to work. I totally see your point, and did not mean to undermine your comment. Thank you for engaging my mind further in this video.

I have a question. Lately, I see less and less interest in grappling. In the mma gym where I used to train, no one grappled and the coach was fine with that. I hear other people too saying grappling is no fighting and is boring... So, my question is: How to make grappling interesting to people?

Bjj lying on your back in guard looks boring as hell. Takedowns into some positioning (a la wrestling) into ground and pound or submissions however looks cool as hell. So do that second one, and then ease people into the more ‘boring’ stuff once they’ve already bought in
@RamseyDewey

You go to a gym like that where no one grapples. Spar with everyone, take them all down and systematically dismantle each and every one of the wimps one by one till they’re screaming “uncle!” And tapping out for dear life. If the knowledge that even remedial grappling skills give you godlike power in a fight over people who don’t grapple doesn’t get the message across, I don’t know what will.
