More than one million violent crimes occur in the United States each year, not counting all other types of crimes, such as property crimes and other non-violent crimes. According to FBI estimates from various reporting agencies, there were approximately 1.2 million violent crimes in 2023 alone.
Safety, of course, is one of the most important factors people consider when choosing accommodation. Along with employment and price considerations, this is perhaps the most important factor. Using data from a report by Neighborhood Scout on Dangerous Cities, combined with data from the FBI website, we have created a list of the most dangerous cities in America.
Methodology: Neighborhood Scout ranked the most dangerous cities by analyzing cities with populations over 25,000, then comparing the number of violent crimes per 1,000 people in each city using the most recent population estimates from the Office of the FBI's most recent census and crime reports. Cities with the highest violent crime rates ranked at the top. All statewide crime data comes directly from the latest FBI state-by-state reports.
