Listening to this makes me sad cause people really don’t sing or perform like this anymore. Mabel king was gone too soon. I was always infatuated with her my dad introduced me to her in the show with Re Run.

Yeah Mabel King was a queen! We need more people like her. Unfortunately they're all gone Della Reese, Nell Carter, Cicily Tyson, Aretha Franklin, and Esther Rolle....damn all have passed on.

It does. Broadway plays are raw talent where as the big screen Is always watered down. Have you ever read a book and watched the movie sequel? Most likely you're disappointed. It's always a cheap knock off. Always and I've read many. 50 at least. I don't much like movies til this day. Give the book to read.💪🏿❤️

Miss Mabel King. Very good actress and strong singer. What's Happening was a good show. I heard the costume in Wiz 1978 weighed over 50 lbs. And it took painstaking hours to put the makeup and hair.

When I wake up in the afternoon Which it pleases me to do Don't nobody bring me no bad news 'Cause I wake up already negative And I've wired up my fuse So don't nobody bring me no bad news If we're going to be buddies Better bone up on the rules 'Cause don't nobody bring me no bad news You can be my best of friends As opposed to payin' dues But don't nobody bring me no bad news No bad news, no bad news Don't you ever bring me no bad news 'Cause I'll make you an offer, child That you cannot refuse So don't nobody bring me no bad news When you're talking to me Don't be cryin' the blues 'Cause don't nobody bring me no bad news You can verbalize and vocalize But just bring me the clues But don't nobody bring me no bad news Bring some message in your head Or in something you can't lose But don't you ever bring me no bad news If you're gonna bring me something Bring me, something I can use But don't you bring me no bad news

Mabel King RIP sung this song sensationally well. I expect Her Majesty Queen Mary J. Blige to do the same when NBC presents the Wiz on NBC in December co-starring original Broadway Dorothy Stephanie Mills as Auntie Em.

+Manuel Orozco Miss Mabel was OZum! I impatiently awaited NBC's production of The Wiz Live. Mary J did the song justice...but not the attitude of Mabel. I also must say Stephanie Mills rendition of 'The Feeling We Once Had,' was exceptional!

Road 2OZ What did you think of the Wiz Live overall?
@yddraiggoch279
8 жыл бұрын
+Manuel Orozco In all honesty I wasn't very impressed. I'm old school and I sure did appreciate Stephanie making a reprise as Aunt Em. I can't say I am a fan of Shanice. Nothing magical about her voice. It just kind of 'sat' there. I was very upset 'I Was Born On The Day Before Yesterday' was canned. Instead they used Michael Jackson's 'You Can't Win.' That was the ONLY song I was waiting for...and when I heard that bird brain begin with You Can't Win....I kind of lost interest. I understand it is for a new generation, but don't forget the ones who made it a generation before theirs.

I recently discovered Hinton Battle was in the original cast of the show so naturally i had to come check it out, and yeah this is incredible should've checked it out allot sooner.

Ms Carter was also the first choice for Effie in the original Dreamgirls. Her TV schedule would not permit it. Mable was a natural choice for the role. Hate how they destroyed her dark character in the Movie version.

Fun fact this was the Mamma on Whats Happening. 💯 Mable somebody was her name. Mable King I think. Another fun fact, this was black exploitation and it was a smash on Broadway but the big screen was a flop. Reason being , Barry Gordy replaced 17 year old abd much better singer Stephanie Mills with 31 year old Diana Ross. Thought he could make it up with Michael Jackson as tge Scarecrow byt people boycotted and the movie production lost 13 million. Dont ever cross Broadway. Big execs in Manhattan pay very good money for Broadway stage plays. Hell they pay a hundred dollars to shine their shoes.thsts the one place were Million and billionaires are on the same block with the homeless and drug addicts. Many of the homeless are people with talent who came to make it in the greatest city on Earth. New York City.
