I've been using the exact same desk as your old one for 13 years now and still love it. I've also had it wobble & creak when its at full height after many years and lots of heavy items on it. At the end of the day like most things with moving parts you have to maintain them. It's just a case of tightening up a few screws and it's good as new. It's probably the longest lasting item I actually have... It's like family now 🙂

I ended with old desk top from a coffee shop as a desk and bought the legs separately. Most of the office desks are to narrow, 6 person table is perfectly deep. Maybe you can find something in Ikea.

For people who stand most of the time, the IKEA crank sit/stand underframe is good. My son and I each have one. They don't creak or wobble, but I wouldn't try lying on it. The default top was hollow, so I bought a 61"x29"x 1" butcher block top for mine (no longer sold) and mounted it with hardware from Home Depot. At the time, I read bad reviews of the motorized IKEA underframe.

I have the same desk, also about 12 years. It's not made for sure by any kind of company called geekdesk, it was one desk that was sold to dozens of brands, I bought mine as Aj Flexus, from the swedish office furniture giant. And I saw it sold under at least 10 different names. Single motor, ugly beam in the middle, the two-button control is a mess... but it was my first, and I still keep it as a side desk with smaller countertop.

You can widen the base by loosening some screws. In the middle of the base, there are screws that you can loosen to adjust and make the base wider. This should help it fit better on your old desk.

Alex, I started working at a standing desk in 1998. It was one of the Amazon “door desks” but on taller 4x4 legs. Changed companies and migrated to a used drafting table I got at Boeing Surplus near Seattle. You think your old desk is big? This sucker had a steel top (so magnets could hold down the blueprints) covered in faux leather that was 7’x4’. The whole unit weighed more than I did and was rated to lift at least two of me. It not only went up and down, but also tilted (hence the magnets). Two rocker switches for up/down and tilt forward/back. (You did NOT want to hit the wrong one!) Needless to say I had to make a new top as otherwise there was no room for me in my tiny office. About 15 years ago I took apart a traditional treadmill so I could add it under my desk. It seems counterintuitive, but you feel less tired in the legs after walking than just standing all day. And you get your exercise in as well. After the pandemic sent us home I now own two standing desks and two treadmills.

The first standing desk I built from electric gate opener and pile of 2 by 4 and 3d printed parts for my wife (back problems). 4 years later i bought 2 new frames for her and me plus 75cm ikea top - using it everyday in home office. Everyone should try it - I didn't knew what been missing.

@AZisk I have the same base, you can adjust the width that the legs are apart for the size of desk top that you have. The manufacturer sells only one base which is adjustable and thats what you get when you buy a full desk from them. Its up to you to adjust it to the size when you do the assembly. Had the shorter top initially but later on got a longer one from IKEA and adjusted the legs, it is just two screws.

I got one at costco with most the same features for $299.00, 3 presets you can set and 3 USB-A charger ports on the right side (sorry lefties). It’s not as deep as you might want Alex, but it has a drawer too.

I got myself a nice dining table (oak in my case) and put it on top of a Maidesite T2 Pro Plus. It is a bit heavy, but the Maidesite can handle it. And I have 180x100cm of space to work with. 10/10 would do it again.

You can go to ikea and get a custom butcher block and just drill in the legs and motors of the flexi spot one along with the height adjuster

Have you ever experienced wrist or elbow pain? I've been Software dev for about 11yr now, and since last year I've experiencing a lot of pain, a sort of carpal tunnel syndrome, I do have wrist cushions, I'm not sure anymore if my arms position is the right one 😥😥

People should give hydraulic (gas powered) desks instead. It doesn't require electricity and you can adjust it instantly, just like an office chair, instead of waiting for 10-15 secs for it to adjust

IMO I will not buying a standing desk because it doesn't really promote health. From this perspective, I'd rather just have a desk to sit in, but then force myself to actually walk because standing is still sedentary. You aren't moving. Also some people say standing too long is not good for you. I do have a treadmill desk, but I found that eventually I couldn't really concentrate on tasks. It worked better for mindless stuff like playing games, but for work, I stick to desk and walk once every other hour to avoid the cons of sitting too long.

Why not just buy a piece of furniture grade plywood cut to the exact size you want and tack/glue facing around the edge? A couple of coats of poly/finish later and you'd have exactly what you want. I know that you're a Tech KZitemr, but this really wouldn't be that big a foray into "Carpentry" ...
