When someone states their car is leaking oil, they usually refer to engine oil, which needs some gaskets to fix. This is just a bushing that’s filled with oil, comparable to a paintball maybe

No John, a Speed might cost about 50k more but it always comes with more power and torque from the W12, as well as having the diamond quilted stitching on the seats and door panels (usually only available as part of the Mulliner Driving Spec option on std cars), as well as a few unique features such as dark tint chrome bodywork and exclusive 21" Speed wheels. You get quite a lot more for the extra dosh.

600+ HP with suspension bushings that suck. I swapped the stock(oil filled ) bushings, shocks and coil springs to Dinan's for my E39 540i. With all poly bushings it handled like a laser and they are still in perfect shape 75kmi later. I sold it to a friend and the entire suspension is still perfect.

The arm isn't filled, its the rubber bush at the end. Hydraulic engine mounts which use a similar design have been in use for many years.

Pretty much anything with a hydraulic suspenison is a nightmare. Usually in really heavy cars and under pressure. So when you have a car like that sit in the garage it wears out the suspension, hence this happening at this low milage. Driving a car like this regularly is actually much better for it.

@@boxr_4214 The only cars ive really ever worked on are German. Audi mostly. The large tension strut arm busings are always fluid filled. The Bentley is built on an Audi A8 chassis, so same bushing. Motor mounts are filled with the same fluid. Easy to reccomend a new one when you see dried old fluid on the bottom of it.

Inspect for toe rods, and link ends in front/rear. Those parts are commonly worned or break at 100,000 between 200,000 miles. V6 have problem with oil leaks from pressure hose. If hose detached during drive. Engine will be starved with no oil. Problem with i4 that's oil burner? Change oil to 5w-30w full synthetic with high mileage. High mileage and thicker visocity will take care of oil consumption problem within one week of daily driving.

I’m definitely spamming all your Shorts, but I had no idea these had fluid filled tension strut bushings. E39 540i and M5 I believe are the models that have them in the rearward positions as well, all other BMW’s with these have them in the forward position. These problems really are universal huh.

They did that in the E39 V8s to avoid reengineering the engine and oil pan to accommodate a steering rack. They kept the steering box setup from the E34 instead. Its a shame because the V8 models got crappy loose steering while the I6 models got a sweet steering rack and better handling! 03 540i Sport owner.
