great video, looking to do this for a small size fridge, was any modification done to the control panel?

Good job! I like it, i have often thought about getting a half decent fridge from the dump and putting a 12v compressor in it. I’m surprised you dont see Chinese copies of the Engel Sawafuji motor, that would be a great design feature as they can use very little current, and just keep going. Nice vid, thanks for sharing

HI, thanks for the video, which is now 2yrs older, the compressor before i suppose was 134A, the 12/24v comp was which gas 410a or same 134a.. I used to do airconditioning system so it seems a simple process to reclaim the coolant by using a bullet piercing value and evacuate to a bottle, the new compressor is recharged by weight? Have you done a follow up to this JDNelRefrideration?
@JDNelRefrigeration

I recharged it with R12. I do have a recovery plant which I use on larger fridges, not small domestics. I do not recharge by weight.

You drain the system of all gas while replacing the compressor. Once completed you add gas to the system.

I use a power supply that can supply 12 volt DC at 24 Amps which is sufficient for the compressor, the fan motor, LED lights & any electronic temperature control unit. If you do not use a fan motor, LED lights or electronic temperature control unit you can use a smaller power supply but I am unsure of the compressors exact consumption.

Hello Johann, good work. is enough for the power of the 12 volt compressor to cool and freeze?. It's already a great cool device. I had the times with a danfoss BD2.5 tried. there was not enough power. Greetings from Germany walter Please continue to make such cool videos.

when choosing a fridge to convert, does it have to be a manual defrost fridge? I'm assuming it can't have the auto defrost because those fridges have fans for the coils and the danfoss unit can't control that, right?
@JDNelRefrigeration
2 жыл бұрын
You do get 12v fans, the problem is finding a heating element on 12v is not easy, and the consumption is very high.
@DIRAVIdude

Hi. I'm keen to do this myself but have a question- how did you handle the self-defrost heater? Doesn't that have to be converted to 12v as well?
@johannnel3888

I disconnected the heater. The fridge defrosts without the heater, it just takes a little bit longer.

I've been chewing this idea over, as a boat fridge can cost several times as much as a domestic one. However, I didn't want to interfere with the coolant system. The Compressor is presumably driven by a motor, and I was thinking maybe you could just exchange the mains motor for a 12volt one and retain the compressor and not interfere with the coolant system at all. Any thoughts...?
@JDNelRefrigeration

Not on a small domestic compressor, you do get what is referred to as open compressors which are driven by a belt and a separate motor.

Hi there, do you know if it's possible to convert an electric fridge to gas or parrafin?

Yes, it is possible if you can source an absorption unit that you can fit into your existing fridge. I have done it, it is a tremendous amount of work.
