I recently watched Black Christmas (1974) and was blown away. I think it actually may have surpassed the original Halloween (1978) for me on the ‘best of the slashers’ list. It’s incredibly atmospheric, genuinely funny at parts, and genuinely terrifying at others. I found it more frightening, conceptually, than Halloween, because unlike Michael, in Black Christmas, Billy never leaves the house. He remains a constant presence. A constant threat to anyone who enters. A living ghost whose motivations are never revealed.

I think you’ve covered almost all of the underrated 80s slashers that aren’t well known. The ones that are well known include Big three, My Bloody Valentine, Slumber Party Massacre, Sleepaway Camp, Black Christmas, April Fool’s Day, The Stepfather, Maniac and Maniac Cop for the record. The only exceptions you are missing are The Funhouse and Alone in the Dark, which are also underrated. Great job! House on Sorority Row is probably my favorite of this selection. Edit: Forgot Silent Night, Deadly Night in most well known, sorry guys.

I never agree with the notion of slashers being classified as "trash" movies because films like Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Halloween and Black Christmas are examples of slashers with class and are all influential to pop culture which people celebrate every year. Slashers like My Bloody Valentine are films I see as very underappreciated in its time which over the years people saw how much effort was actually put into it which by today is regarded as a classic. Great you are putting out there slashers that should get better spotlight.

Thanks for the video! You had some excellent picks on here. Funny thing about Blood Rage - it was originally released earlier; I actually saw it in the movies (oy vey) under the name Nightmare at Shadow Woods. It is just kooky and has some fun gore. Lassiter is insane in this. Dark Night of the Scarecrow I always just remember that Charles Durning was in it. I think I need to rewatch it. I remember NOTHING of the movie other than him! hehehe Psycho 2 is pretty awful, but poor Robert Loggia - that death is brutal. That and the knife to the mouth of poor Vera Miles. Phantom of the Mall still cracks me up - I go around singing the theme song of it (it is terrible) whenever the name is mentioned. Popcorn is in the height of when Jill Schoelen was becoming famous. I saw it in the movies with a friend - at the theater we worked at in South Florida, and the theater was pretty empty - a few people, but the theater had rats and I started a complete ruckus that had NOTHING to do with the film so we just kept laughing throughout most of it. Happy Bday to Me is one of my faves and will always be so. Gruesomely bloody (that poor guy lifting weights!) and starring two tv stars I loved (Melissa Sue Anderson and Soap star Tracey Bregman) and crazy as a bedbug! One of my faves, though, still, no matter how horrible it was (well I think it wasn't THAT bad) is Neon Maniacs! I saw it all alone in a movie theater in a mall in Miami. It was crazy! Loved the killers' costumes and personas. Pieces I only saw on video. It was pretty bloody and all I remember are the body parts. I think it is a bit overrated. HOSR is just okay to me and Behind the Mask is very mundane in my book.
