I love aged tattoos. You have to look at the context. These senior citizens got tattoos when they were still very socially unacceptable and that’s pretty badass. Not to mention most of them are the American Traditional style, which was pioneered in the US and popularized by military service members. And yeah maybe our tattoos will age better as technology improves and styles evolve, but it’s still cool to see such a rich part of tattoo history on somebody that’s spent some time on this earth.

I actually did my research on my artist long before I started my sleeve. I knew I wanted full sleeves, one Disney Villains and one Disney princesses and such. I lost my wife almost a year ago and just a couple months after she passed, I started my villain sleeve. I couldn’t be happier! I gave my artist carte blanch when it comes to the characters and lay out. I just provided him with the list of the characters I’d like to have. And now every time I look at my arm, I have very specific memories from our trips to Disney and I’ll be forever grateful for that!

The stick and poke tattoo at 3:20 is mine. I did that to my upper arm myself using a sewing needle and calligraphy ink when I was a junior in high school. I thought it would be cool for some reason, but now that I'm in college and have started dating, I've grown to seriously regret it. I recently got it covered up with a professionally done tattoo. No more stick and poke for me!

As someone who read and write Chinese (1st language is Cantonese), I don't agree Chinese character tattoo is bad. Those pictures you showed in the video are no doubts terrible but they were most likely done by some artists that have no Chinese language background whatsoever. People just google translate whatever phrase/word/sentence they like in English(or other language) and throw that to a random artist. When both parties have no idea how to make the character look great, what can they do? Use the default font in Microsoft Word and just put in on the body. Man, those are the font I used in my uni essay. Chinese character tattoo is not bad but it will be bad if neither the artist nor the client have the language background. If anyone wants a Chinese/any foreign language tattoo, go for someone native. There are so many talented tattoo artists in Hong Kong, Taiwan and China that customise Chinese character tattoo for you with their wonderful handwriting or calligraphy. Not only can both parties have better understanding on the tattoo, but also the artist can find the right character for you instead of a literal translation from Mr. Google.
@BillyTheCheeseMonger

Well yes if you’re Chinese they’re not bad at all! That’s why all his pictures were of white people. The bad part in my opinion is where people with no respect/understanding of Chinese culture getting them on impulse.

Yeah, i don't really understand why one would want to get a Chinese tattoo when neither oneself nor the artist know anything about the language. If i were to get one, i'd certainly go to a Chinese artist, or if that's not an option, get a Chinese friend to draw the writing for the artist to tattoo.

For the lettering on the neck, I’d actually vote horizontal. Not only that, but only on the right side of the neck. The reason being is that we read from left to right, and I think it just makes more sense for the lettering to be facing the same way as the person wearing it. I find that vertical lettering on the neck kinda has the same problem, since we don’t read vertically, but then the letters themselves are still facing forward. To me, it just throws everything off. And at least with horizontal, you could potentially write more than just one word, maybe like a song verse or a poem or something. Can’t really do that with vertical words. Of course, this only applies to languages where you read left to right. If you want arabic or hebrew script, best put it on the left side. As for languages where you read downwards, the vertical script might not be so bad, but I’ve never seen Chinese or Japanese script on the neck. My two cents!

I have a large tattoo on my right arm with a lot of black in it and no shading. My artist warned me that such designs can hurt more than usual, and it certainly was painful. Not agony, but no-one can say a procedure that stings continually for *hours* isn't painful! People who say it doesn't hurt at all either had basic line work, or teensy tiny tats, were jacked up morphine at the time, or (most likely) are simply lying to look tough. 🤷♂️

Personally I’m not a huge fan of the tiny tattoos, I think they can be done well but I keep seeing people get it done and it comes out really badly cause they went to the cheapest place they could find. I have a friend who got one really cheap, she said she didn’t wanna have to pay 60-100+ for such a small tattoo and thus she want to the cheapest place and it didn’t look great and she highly regretted it. I do actually have some but I did those myself, it’s not stick and poke I have a tattoo pen, I don’t suggest doing it at home yourself but I want to get good at it and maybe make a career out of it. I use fake skin to practice but I also use my own skin cause to fake skin just isn’t the same and fucking up my own tattoos isn’t a huge issue for me as I see it as growth and documentation of the timeline and progression in tattooing. It’s gonna be a couple years before I’m comfortable doing it on others tho.

I don't dislike a good portrait. It's just that portraits are super effin hard, and in my real life I've only ever seen bad ones. I don't mean the horrible meme bad ones, but even the decent ones I've seen just look weirdly airbrushed and generic. Okay, they look like people and not like weird gremlins, but not like actual specific people. Like those portraits you can get painted down by the beach or along the river in some tourist places. The one at 6.34 is a good example. Especially people getting their spouses or children tend to not work. (And also. Don't tattoo the face of someone who might still destroy their image. "Praise no man until he is dead." Otherwise you might end up with a really unfortunate Cosby tattoo.)

I have lettering on the left side neck that’s vertical & prefer it be done that way. Don’t really like horizontal tbh

Unless it’s that really big lettering that takes up the whole side I don’t like horizontal

Normally I agree with the Chinese/Japanese Kanji, it's always people who cant read it or just appropriate the culture. I have a small wrist tattoo reading "Bushido" and my dad has it matching on him. It means a lot but because I'm white and grew up in japan I cop so much sht for it.

Hey man your opinion on band tattoos? Like I am pretty young but I'm considering on getting a tattoo when I'm older because my dad has tattoos and he has one of a band he likes and I think that it'd be cool to get a tattoo from my favorite band too

How was the pain on your fingers 1 out of 10 working on my second sleeve and getting my other hand done but part of it my fingers have to get done
@justinkd
2 жыл бұрын
Soo I’d rate it probably on the higher end of the whole hand. Probably a 8.5/9. Webbing hurts the most but I don’t have it going all the way down the fingers and from what I’m told the pain increases as you go down
