Those giant rings in front of the museum represent wedding rings and hark back to the days Reno was known as the "divorce capital of the world" from 1909 to 1970. It was short to establish residency (thus all the roadside weeklies) and grounds for divorce were very lenient, which brought couples from all over the world to split the knot. Afterward many liberated lovers walked out of the courthouse and tossed their rings in the Truckee. People still do it, and in the summer you can see metal detectors wading around searching for preciousss :D And "The Basement" is in the old post office; too bad the top has closed because it is really cool with all the old PO boxes and art-deco design :)

What's amazing is I'd love to say is: add Lake Tahoe, Pyramid Lake, Truckee/Donner and Carson City, because between us all they're continuations of home - but they are they're truly all their own entities that would need their own full videos. They're utterly cool places with huge, rounded facscinating pasts, but also coteries, that are hyper interesting. I was born in LA but moved to Reno when I was three - almost my entire, huge family is there, and I have always, always loved it. Northern Nevada is one of the most beautiful, and I personally believe underrated, places in the world. It's steeped in history, art and community. The Wilber D May museum is a popular school trip destination. It also has a reputation for being haunted in some way, usually involving the shrunken heads opening and closing their eyes. Virginia city has a ton of old fashioned candy stores. If your looking for another reason to visit. Summer in Reno adds a ton to this list. July is Artown, a one month festival centered on the river walk featuring concerts, art displays, Shakespeare and other plays. August has Hot August Nights, a week long celebration of the 50s, mostly centered around cars. There's also a chili cookoff, a massive rib cookoff, the national championship rodeo, balloon races(you want to be out there at dawn for this one) the Air races. A restaurant option that might be oddly unique to Reno is the Nugget Oyster Bar. They have the expected sea food options, and something called Pan roasts, a made to order chowder type dish that is insanely good.

The mariana/legends is a great place to visit over at Sparks. Peavine peak for outdoorsy stuff or even Mt. Rose a little south from Reno. GSR, Peppermill & Atlantis are pretty popular too go too as well

I've stayed at every casino's hotel, here are my ratings in order. 1. Grand Sierra Resort 2. Circus Circus 3. Silver Legacy 4. El Dorado 5. Atlantis Atlantis just sucks, ElDo wifi kicks off every 5 minutes. GSR has a huge pool, indoor mall and is outstanding. Only thing bad ab it is the prices. Circus Circus has the best wifi of all casinos, and a gigantic arcade. Silver Legacy is the tallest building in Reno and has a beautiful interior while the green lights that light up every night make it 10x better.

I'm born and raised Reno, there are also multiple trails all over town as well as some other sights to see, In spring and summer its good to go walk through both Bartley Ranch and Rancho san Rafael (where the Wilbur Museum is at) as well as seeing the rodeo at the livestock events center, though not gonna lie Reno is getting expensive to live in due to the tech boom in the area and the cost of housing has risen to a point where its a miracle most people are able to keep up with the rising rent costs

Enjoyed the video. Back in December 1980, l was 21 years old and took a seven day bus tour from British Columbia, to Reno. Saw Bill Cosby perform at Harrahs, also toured Carson and Virginia city. Returned to my hotel room at the Sands hotel and casino one night. It was December 8/1980 , turned on the t.v.and they reported that John Lennon had just been shot and had died! It was one of those moments one would always remember. Thanks for sharing. 🙂 🎄 🇨🇦
