Without regard to practicality or value of the time and effort, there is immense satisfaction in simply 'fixing' something that is broken. Fun video.

This is like a "Shango066" video, but by the Imsai Guy! I love analog radios, so this was a real treat.

I've used that model radio. My grandparents had one, back when there was a Sony product that didn't have patented DRM, or form-factor.

Nice video. Very patient fix. I learned a lot. I have one of these radios and it needs fixing much like this one. I will try the fix myself. Thank you!

Every time I see you take something apart you grab a tray to put all the loose bits in and sometimes I see you put the device back together so I am wondering how many trays of little bits do you have sitting around your shop? 😬 I recently watched your older video on an HP power supply with germanium transistors which got me to thinking about an old supply I have so I dug it out to take a look. It is a Trygon PS32-1.5 120VAC in 32VDC 1.5A out rack mount chassis with remote voltage sensing, remote variable voltage and current limit from the late 50's/early 60's and sure enough it uses the same Motorola TR375 germanium transistors. I traced out enough of the circuit to confirm that it regulates the negative rail just as your HP does. What is kind of mind blowing are the three 10 ohm 25W power resistors connected in series and mounted on the outside end of the chassis with a ventilated cover but no fan. I guess efficiency wasn't a thing back then. Another real "HUH?" is the screw terminal strip on the other end of the chassis with connections labeled "AC | AC | G | V+ | +Sense".... Yes that's right 120AC is totally exposed and right near to other exposed connections. A slight slip of a screwdriver or loose wire could make for a very bad day.

Agree, I always clean the chassis (and knobs) of things like this before I reassemble them. Makes them look almost new, and the owner even more happy.

I just bought one of these off ebay. It worked great for a few days then the volume dropped almost to nothing and the led tuner light quit working. Still getting reception. Any thoughts on a fix?

Hi, nice and quick diagnostics including repair, I just have no idea why you didn't take off the black plate under the pointer needle (from the video it looks like it's just snapped onto the plastic frame) and the cutout in the plastic frame would be a nice access to the capacitor. The video also did not show whether the stabilization was checked (so that the new capacitor does not go to silicon heaven) and whether the printed circuit board was cleaned of leaked electrolyte. When assembling, I would proceed in the opposite way and first seat the speaker, with your procedure there was a risk that it would not sit on the guide pins and the membrane would be damaged - it is also not possible to see whether you installed the condenser clip on the speaker chassis. Nice day 🙂 Tom
Quick repair, but I didn't learn a lot of things. It would be nice to have short explanation about some circuits.
