July 26, 2024 - The ceremony of the sacred fire, followed by the release of ceremonial warriors at the Guan Yu Shrine.
Originally, this location was a canal near the sea where Chinese settlers arrived by junk boat from China. They brought with them a statue of Guan Yu, the deity of loyalty, and built a small residence with an altar to honor him. Over time, the settlers disappeared, leaving only the statue of Guan Yu. Local Phuket residents began to worship the deity, seeking his help and often finding success. This led to a growing faith in Guan Yu, prompting the community to collect funds to build a more permanent shrine.
The miracle of the shrine involves four termite mounds that grew around the deity’s statue, without damaging the wooden parts of the shrine. On Guan Yu's birthday, it is said that the deity's spirit descends from the heavens to receive worship and listen to the concerns and requests for help from local residents, often granting them relief.
Phuket residents have expressed their devotion, leading to the decision to organize annual celebrations. As the shrine became too small and deteriorated, the community decided to build a new shrine, which was approved during the 2009 vegetarian festival. The foundation stone for the new shrine was laid on January 20, 2010.
