There was an abandoned cat in the busy highway two weeks ago and I saved her. We tried to find a facility to take her in but place after place denied us unless she was injured. She wasn’t injured, was very clean, she looked abandoned. We decided to keep her and she has her forever home with us now - we named her Pip. She’s a dilute calico, about 6 months old, extremely affectionate and I’ve never seen her hiss once. I feel she’ll have the best life staying with me and she agrees. 💚

I have a female cat and only in the past year did she really start getting affectionate, and she turns 4 this October. I had always wanted a lap-cat and was so sad that my kitty preferred sitting nearby rather than on you. The most affection she showed was rubbing against your legs. I moved out for uni, spending my first year in dorms so not being able to see her except holidays, before I moved out independently to my own apartment for second year onwards. I brought her with me and she had a complete personality change the day we moved - she was making biscuits (never seen her knead at all) and she became a lap-cat overnight. She sits on my lap when I sit on my couch; she sits on my desk when I’m studying; she even sleeps with me in my bed at night! She curls up on top of my head on the same pillow. She always is trying to rub her face against mine, and she understands if you make kissy noises at her and will come up to you to give you a kiss on the cheek. Never met a more affectionate cat than her, and I’m still not sure what caused her personality change but I’m not complaining. Her health is as good as ever.

I've had a few cats now that have reached old age; and I've seen them all become more affectionate the older and less active they get. It's as if they got less varied interests as they got older and started paying more attention to what's inside the house, which includes the owner 🤣. Also, depending on the personality, they might enjoy a less populated and less noisy home, which might be the reason why she enjoys the bachelorettes life you two are having now 😁.

We've had plenty of male and female cats over the years and I do think the males are more affectionate or social than the females. That said, the female cat I had as a kid we got very young. She really should have stayed with the litter for a few more weeks, but I was so anxious to get her the neighbor let her go just a week after her eyes were open. Basically, she didn't know she was a cat! Very strong personality - alternating between grumpy and affectionate. She acted like it was her house and she was just letting us live there. lol Still, it made her very endearing and we talk about her more to this day than any other cat we've ever had.

It's very traumatic for the kittens to be taken away from their mommy so early. Not to mention, the mother is having a traumatic experience as well and frequently search for her kittens. It's probably best to wait at least 2 months to avoid damage but generally 3 months is a minimum. We also had a male cat who was maybe 2 - 3 weeks when we rescued him, and he continued suckling behavior to his adult life.

I have three cats. Pumpkin is the oldest, (my kids named her. I would have named her Raya), and then the three others are litter buddies. Shadow, is a male, Oreo is a female and Sparkles is a female. Personally, I would prefer all female cats as to me, they seem like less work than males. Pumpkin is a tortoise calico, but she has black stripes and a short thick tail. She is the "queen" and shows it. She used to be the most affectionate, but became standoff-ish when my foster daughter insisted on grabbing her and holding her despite wanting to be put down. She used to curl up in my lap and on my legs, but doesn't anymore. She still needs to be with me but isn't as affectionate. Shadow's name fits him PERFECTLY!! If you are not careful, you could trip over him, (despite his size, he's a BIG BOY), as he is ALL black, but has one white wisker. He is affectionate, but on his terms. If he wants to be pet and scratched, he will come to you. Otherwise he's standoff-ish. Oreo is black & white with a tiny white strip down her nose. She is coming out of her little shell and is more talkative but very affectionate. Actually, she competes with Sparkles for affection. Sparkles is a black & white cat with a long black tail. She is the quintessential cat. She is CONSTANTLY talking to me and MUST have ALL the attention, 24/7.

I find these studies a bit misleading as they usually talk about strangers. Vets are not owners. If I was a cat i wouldn't be affectionate to the vet either as he/she is likely to try to poke me with a needle or do something otherwise unpleasant. Female cats also seem to be more "in charge" of the household, more proactive. More diligent about scouting and enforcing routines ("time to wake up! time to eat!") and making sure everything is "running smooth". Male cats seem to lounge around and be more passive about things.

My male cat was the sweetest, most playful cat I've ever met. Loved people, very sociable, great with kids, mellow with other cats. Pretty fearless and easygoing. I only mention it as a counterpoint to anyone reading who might be looking at adopting. Male cats can be wonderful companions, they just bring a different energy to the equation. Usually a little more assertive, a little more adventurous, more likely to fight with other cats. But especially if they are neutered before they get too old, none of that should become too extreme as to be a problem.

Males tend to have rounder shaped heads with flat noses, females have the slim shaped heads with pointy noses, not always of course but in most cases, that's why it's often easier to identify males and females from a distance. Not only do cats have scent glands on their paws but they have sweat glands too, so cats sweat from their paws.
@luckycookie5063

Correction -- only males that haven't been spayed have rounder shaped heads as their cheeks grow extra tissue due to hormones (to look more intimidating for other cats, most likely). Otherwise their noses can be even pointier. P. S. Not all tomcats develop chubby cheeks.

The cost of neutering a female cat is double the one for a male cat, where I live. I'm sure this also comes into play when picking a female or male cat.
@user-mc5vy2vk5n
2 жыл бұрын
Same where I live. Literally the double. Though, I think the main reason for preference towards male cats may be different and may depend on the place you live at - if your male cat is allowed outside, he won't mark his territory inside and he won't bring you babies, either. But if you won't neuter your female cat who is allowed out, sure enough you'll end up with kittens. So not only the neutering costs play the role here, at least in my observation. Also, female cats are believed to be meaner than male cats (at least here, and I can confirm I knew some fierce female cats, while most males were just lazy butts, but that depends ofc also, how they were brought up, socialized etc.), so if someone wants a cuddly one, they rather look specifically for males, before they get to know the kitten at all.

I don't agree with the "scratching" statements. Cats also scratch to sharpen their claws or to help them "shed" their claws, or to shorten them, somehow. I've found several claws from my female kitty around my house - inside and outside. Plus, it's just natural for them to want to scratch - male and female. I'm not certain about which sex scratches the most, though. But, sometimes it is to leave their scents. However, it's not mentioned in this video how they will scratch to shed their nails every once in awhile. 😻❣😻

I once saw a male kitten, gave him food and it didn't even take 15 mins for him to follow me around and trying to be nice. I am not a cat lover, so I just treat it as an "experience". While in terms of giving stray female cats.. Took me around 3 days for me to be recognized by the cat. I don't blame them.. They are females, meaning they bear and take care of their litters (while the toms live carefree life) thus their instinct was more towards being protective and such..

I am the proud caretaker of 8 cats and always theorised that my male cats appeared to be left handed and the female ones righthanded. Never looked it up because I believed I was imagining things. But now I know!!

My little 1 year old female cat is enough. Cashmere is a 1 year old, very easy going petite sweetheart. I feel like I won the lottery and don’t want to press my luck by adopting another cat who might be challenging to live with.

When I adopted my cat, she was curled I to a ball in the back of her carrier. We didn't bond whatsoever but over time she has become quite a sweet affectionate friend. So I wouldn't trust first impressions at the shelter as it takes time especially for nervous cats to come around. 🐈⬛

I have an exception to the role female cat. Though both are very bonded to me and often show signs of affection, the female is by far the most affectionate of the two. There my babies and I couldn't part with either of them.🐈🐈⬛😚😇

Fun Fact: The Oldest Two Headed Cat (Janus Cat) to ever live is a cat named "Frank and Louie" who was only expected to live just a day or two.... He lived for 15 years and 87 days. Just amazing!

I've had cats throughout my adult life, I had a beautiful all black male who developed so many illnesses that he only lived with me for 10 years, I missed him dearly and adopted a female Siamese cat who was abused, I've never seen a depressed 8 month old kitty before so I brought her home another female Siamese baby, the two bonded and they are now 5 and 6 years old And So affectionate, they both (one in particular) follows me everywhere and they both need they're petting times a few times a day, I couldn't be happier with my females and certainly hope they are with me for many years.

My cat is definitely not affectionate. He is very gentle though, not aggressive at all. Got him as a stray when he was they estimate he was 4 months old. He is now 6 years old soon to be 7 in August. He never seeks out attention, he only comes when he's hungry. My neighbor has two female cats and when I visit her those two cats are all over me. Again I know they say each cat is an individual with different personalities but everyone in my life who has owned cats always say the females are more affectionate.

Cats not only scratch to spread scent, but scratching also prevents overgrowth of the claws, which if not constantly worn down, or periodically trimmed, will grow continuously and curve back into the paw causing discomfort, injury and possibly serious paw infection.

My male knocks things off tables all the time, but he does not use his paws, he either crashes into them headfirst, or flops over on his side and knocks them off with his butt, so the question with him is he right, or left butt cheeked? I will have to watch him more closely to find out.

I have two females and two males. Both males are HIGHLY affectionate, annoyingly so sometimes, but one of my females is still semi feral after several years with me. My other female is very sweet and friendly, but she prefers to lay next to or near me, not ON me. Honestly, I love how snuggly my boys are but I love my girls just as much and they show their love in their own ways.
