Proper primer is often necessary when you dont know the type of paint used on the walls. Not all paint is good to go on top of other paints, the right primer can do more than just cover stains as well, it can seal mold, smells, and bleed through from patched areas. In this house, considering the smell problem and the amount of staining, I would have definitely used a good primer first, to ensure longevity and a nice smelling home for years to come.

Agreed after much experience primer separate from paint from this is way better. Maybe maybe if they change colors later in life next time use the paint n primer in one. The paint likely peeled in the first place from this choice or no primer at all.

Reminds me of me and my husband when we first got married 40 years ago. Lived in a tiny unfinished house and no money to finish it out. We always joke that we were just living on love. It was worth it!

Trying to do it in 1 coat means your using more paint when using rollers, and a coat of primer and a couple coats of paint can be done in less then a day. Now using a paint sprayer can cut it down to 2 coats a primer and a coat of paint, also taking about a day. As a former painter with homes featured in local magazine in a popular tourist town/area. This would not be proper way to do the job. You still risk bleed through with 1 coat

There's a weird roller that you suck paint into the handle, then click to release the paint. That is amazing. You can lay it on thick and it's way faster. I recommend watching the video on how to clean that roller instead of assuming you know how to clean it. That saves time.

The paint will peel again. You can’t use latex over oil. They will always peel off. You will need to remove the grey, now your new colour… lightly sand, use a BONDING PRIMER for oil to latex THEN PAINT. Sorry.

Did you really not have the luxury, or did you just not want to do the work... Taking shortcuts, when renovating, is never a good idea.

Paint and primer doesnt hide stains. Use a oil basedprimer if bad stains are there

Should have skimmed coated those walls with joint compound. It would have cost almost nothing and it would have made it look smooth again. Unless you were going for the old, uneven and worn look.

When you don't have money, time is something you generally have plenty of. Plus you're doing it yourself and you want it to last, so you should have applied primer.

1 coat of oil based primer will hide every imperfection and the top coat of paint will stick to the primer like smooth butter. No bleed,no worries

All the old heads with 20+ exp on YT have said primer is for bare drywall and is non negotiable. You shouldn't replace plain ol primer with a 2 in 1. Look up on yt the difference between paint and primer and you'll find it.
