As a guy who likes to make things, I salute your DAD!! He did an excellent job of designing and fabricating that trailer!! When I was a teen, we had all sorts of ways to earn money. I volunteered as well as worked from a very young age. People who are here "remembering" should also recall that neighborhood kids of all ages playing outside together has given way to organized sports. Single income families ended in the 80's, that had an effect, no one to watch while kids are outside. I began working when I was very young but I DO NOT agree with the relaxation of child labor laws. That has coincided with defunding public schools...? Great ideas come from everyone but children of billionaires only go through the motions of a college education while they wait on a "tacks" free inherit ence.

Same story, on a different subject: during my motorcycle lessons, my instructor (a retired CHP motorcyclist) told us never to follow too closely behind an 18-wheeler. Months later, on a motorcycle across the South... around the time I got close to the Texas-Louisiana state-line, it was raining really hard. To avoid taking the brunt of the rain, I thought stupidly, I followed the semi a bit too closely. A few minutes later, I heard a loud cracking sound. It turned out, my Shadow's headlight was badly shattered from a toe size rock kicked at me by one of those tires.

I taught my son to use our lawn equipment when he was age 12. Over the next two years he build a steady clientele of neighborhood customers. He would work 6 to 8 hours on Saturday and Sunday and knock off a few lawns during summer evenings on two or three days per week. He shoveled snow for those same customers throughout the winter months. At 14 he purchased his own commercial mower, blower and two string trimmers with hedge attachments. By then, his income was far exceeding any of his friends who were working 25 hours plus per week working at fast food restaurants. He acquired his driver's license at 16 and soon after purchased a low mileage, 10 year old pick up truck. When he completed high school, he made the decision to not go on to university and I couldn't disagree with his decision. He then acquired his first snow plow to insure continuous winter work. Over the next 10 years, he expanded with the second truck and snow plow, then the third truck and all the additional equipment to stock the vehicles for three crews. He typically has 8 employees during the summer months and retains 5 of them throughout the winter. Today, his landscape and property maintenance business continues to grow, maintains about 160 residential and commercial customers and his personal income exceeds any doctor that I know.

As a lawn care business owner I'm blown away. The bike idea is genius! And the dedication and drive you show at your age is equally impressive. If I may offer a piece of advice, notice which way your trimmer spins when looking at it from the top down. You should go around the yard in the same direction. If it spins counterclockwise (which I suspect) you should also move in a counterclockwise direction/right to left. You will get a cleaner cut and you will have less cleanup as it will direct debris into the lawn rather than away from it. The yards look great!!! Keep up the good work!

Great job girl, keep up that work ethic and you'll go far in life. Most kids your age can't put down the video controller or their phones. You are many steps ahead of them! Also, kudo's to dad for building an awesome cart to enable your Daughter to fill those shoes!

Mad props girl. I'm very impressed. When i was 12 back in 1988 I would ride around washing cars. Had my own bucket car soap different kinds along with wax. I agree with kids today not knowing how to go out there and work.

👍🏻. It's great to see some younger kids out there learning how to do things and make money. I see so many kids that pretty much refuse to work or won't work because it's to stressful and labor intensive. Keep up the great work. If u keep at it once u get your driver's license u can expand and grow your business in to something even bigger and better.
