@@NickStewartProgrammer I've been an automotive locksmith for 40 years. We run 120 to 150 calls per week. Guess how many times we pick car locks? If you said zero you would be correct. No need to pick car locks. We use professional tools to open doors. In some odd cases to maybe to get a trunk open. It's not the trunk lock you are picking but the door to disable the alarm that's keeping the trunk from opening. Usually you can pull the lock anyway and manipulate the latch. Most guys who are using a Lishi use it to decode the lock to cut a key. To be honest we don't have time to for that being so busy. We stopped pulling locks years ago unless it's quick and easy. We pay for key codes and pass that on to the customer. They would pay the same price for our labor so it's not more money. We try to work smarter. Picking locks if you are an automotive locksmith would be a very little used skill. I impressioned locks back in day. That is an entirely different skill set. Also pretty useless on modern cars.

(And while I do appreciate the faint praise LPL gave this lock and the fact it put a decent fight, the fact that each wafer has only three possible cuts is... disturbing) EDIT: Just checked my car key; the bidding seems longer, and it doesn't have the groove in the middle continuing that much (the keyway seems to end at the last wafer/position 😊)

After some GM dealers in California were having reports of customer vehicles driven off after having service work done. Seems those techs were cutting and programming or cloning keys that were then used to steal said vehicles by other parties. I have not had need to open a RAV4 of this year but I will assume that the system is the same as Prius and Camry of the same model set. If you just need to open the vehicle to recover the keys or to release the child locked inside, (locking your keys in is possible if it is lower entry level model), an air wedge and basic lockout tool set is probably easier than picking. All that aside, over the years I did AA breakdown service, we had the opportunity to buy these picks for use on callouts. They were not supplied as a standard part of job and I never got to buy my own for financial reasons. I did get to use a variety of pick sets that I borrowed off other drivers. I really like these picks, they are great if there is no time pressure from the owner to get their car open and we can be left alone to practice. If there is time pressure to open the vehicle; i.e. child trapped inside in high temperatures, the basic answer is masking tape and dot punch at best. As LPL has stated, being able to pick this lock will get the door open. It will not bypass the antitheft systems by itself.

Yeah wedging the door open always runs the risk of damaging it. Bending the door scratching the paint etc. I believe this is the least destructive method which i think is the point here. I’d like to see the raw first approach to see how you figure out a lock, if it’s your first time picking that style lock. Probably not often you run across something you’ve never seen, it would be cool to see tho

Try watching his videos in full screen but holding it upright. It’s an entirely new way of watching them and I like it way more

I need to see more of these car ignition ones. I work at an insurance auction facility and quite often we don't get the keys. Can't get mileage or drivability status for customers without being able to flip on the ignition to read the codes or even tell if that 6 month old car has 1,000 or 100,000 miles on it.

Special tool needed, with exceeding skill. Even so, vehicle is still immobilised. Safer than most houses I would say.

Our Rav 4 notices when the key fob is right out side the door and unlocks for you. It works on both driver and passenger side. There is a little key built into the fob incase the fob battery goes and you need to unlock the drivers door to get in. Personally that was some picking you did though. Those tools are becoming more and more complex. Back in the good old days you could pick the hand cuffs with a paper clip.

As if I still had the fine motor skills, the hearing the, patience to do this. Meh, I got tools. Although, I very much love that people can do this. And this man is a maestro of locks.

they actually changed the lock striker used in the doors for the 2021 version because of this and the fact that upon collision, the door would open instead of staying shut 👍🏻

Making me wonder why we don't use this sort of lock on houses, seeing how long it took for LPL to pick it and the type of specialist tool required

I nearly skipped this one after dismissing it as just a normal car lock opened easily with the matching Lishi tool. It was only from glancing at the comments I realized it was something far harder than normal, and a video that had to be watched and enjoyed.

Thats one tricky lock! I doubt any picker without vast experience would pick that, or make the effort to return to the lock position, that way you would know.

Don't forget to buy an OBD II lock as most cars today use fobs and locking down this port will help secure your car.

Depending on the car, some will relock the door as soon as you unlock it without the proper key. The car query the chip in the key and if there is no reply or the wrong one then it relock. If you are not fast enough or do not turn it strong enough then it would relock.

Toyota stamps the key cut code on their cylinders so you should only need to pick it if you are doing it for the sport. Yes in some cases picking may be faster but you may also get a miscut and that cost money.
