Episode 1446 I need to machine a part to convert my Olympus microscope to LED illumination. for the bottom illumination I just 3D printed a collar to hold the flashlight. a 48mm OD 26mm ID tube Be a Patron: / imsaiguy
Also, telescope eyepiece optics adapters would probably work too. It’s a cool adaptation you made but won’t the length put undue stress on the attachment point to the microscope. Use your same adapter, pull all the hood bits from flashlight and fashion an external power supply of make a lower profile battery pack with coin sized button batteries. It’s a very cool scope. If you ever need materials to look at electronics from a distance, I have two fairly nice, functional telescopes with extra parts, adapters, etc. 1-Reflecting , 1-Refracting . If ever needed, I’d happily donate them to the cause.

the original illumination part from Olympus has more mass than mine. did always seem like a weak point, but never saw one damaged.

You could have tried some elastic rings, especially at that groove.Great video.

I've been using an old plastic photography ring light that is a close enough fit to just wedge on. This looks way more robust and heat resistant.

Hello, 🤔 so I think you turned the tube, when you tried it before drilling the locking screws, the flashlight went all the way in 😁 Beautiful work 👍 that's what someone does when they have a lathe behind them Nice day 🙂Tom

I had two 'identical' flashlights. One for the top and one for the bottom. Mixed them up.

If there's ever an apocalypse it would be nice to have a friend with a lathe, even better, a friend that's a farmer who has a lathe, he'll never go hungry.

if you can get copies, a guy named Dave Gingery wrote a series of booklets on building a machine shop from scratch, where scratch = enough scrap aluminum and a way to melt it.

@@nickcaruso In a nice coincidence, I just received a bound version of all 7 as a gift, "Build Your Own Metalworking Workshop." It's very available, I think.

A job well done congratulations 👏 One might be tempted to make a dimple on the body of the aluminium tube for the set screws. You did fine. De VU2RZA
