To discuss the latest advances and innovations in research and treatment for thyroid disease patients, The Indonesian Thyroid Association (InaTA) held the 14th Congress of the Asia and Oceania Thyroid Association (AOTA), at Discovery Kartika Plaza, Badung, Bali, Thursday (23/ 5/2024). The congress, which took place from 22 to 25 May 2024, was held to strengthen cross-border collaboration to improve care for patients with thyroid disorders.
The congress, attended by more than 70 countries, featured a series of scientific presentations, workshops, panel discussions and exhibitions presented by leading experts in the field of endocrinology and thyroid health. Additionally, this congress brings together leading experts, scientists and medical practitioners to discuss and share the latest knowledge in the diagnosis, treatment and management of thyroid diseases.
As quoted from the Indonesian Ministry of Health portal, thyroid cancer is a type of endocrine cancer whose incidence is increasing globally. Although the mortality rate tends to be low, its increasing prevalence highlights the importance of a deeper understanding of its diagnosis and management. Amid advances in medical technology, there are promising new developments in thyroid cancer diagnosis and therapy, such as targeted therapy and radioactive iodine (RAI) radiation, as well as new and advanced imaging techniques for thyroid nodules.
Special emphasis was placed on the integration of biomolecular technologies and artificial intelligence in clinical practice, making this congress a platform to explore the revolutionary potential in the treatment of thyroid diseases.
When opening the congress with the theme 'Development of Integrated Thyroid Management: Focus on Biomolecules and Artificial Intelligence', the Deputy Minister (Wamen) of Health of the Republic of Indonesia, Prof. Dr. Dante Saksono Harbuwono, SpPD-KEMD, hopes that through this congress we can share the latest information and technology for treatment. thyroid and good experiences from countries in Asia and Oceania. So it is hoped that we can improve the thyroid service system to be more reliable in the future.

"The main target audience as participants are all doctors who observe thyroid, both general practitioners who serve on the front line of thyroid health services in society, as well as multidisciplinary thyroid consultant doctors, who work in medical education centers and biomolecular research centers as clinical research and epidemiology," he said.
One of the main highlights of the congress was the current exploration of the application of biomolecular and artificial intelligence in early diagnosis, selection of appropriate therapy, and monitoring of thyroid diseases. Experts have shared their research and experience in integrating genomic, proteomic and metabolomic data to form a more effective personalized approach to thyroid management.
Dr Won Bae Kim, PhD, President of the 14th Congress Asia and Oceania Thyroid Association, revealed that a number of thyroid experts from various countries in Asia will gather to exchange scientific knowledge and build a strong network with each other.
