Yeah that's true but as a Land Rover owner I know that any Land Rover of the same year of any Jeep Cherokee when they're both working factory-spec the Landrover is light-years ahead in the off-road system. I drive a Land Rover Discovery Series 2. It's a 2002 model and I do not know of any early 2000 SUV that can follow me without lockers. Solid axle crazy articulation and super aggressive traction control with a manual mode in low range as torque reduction and the benefits of what Emmanuel can do like taking off in 2nd 3rd or 4th in low range and locking it in that gear for certain Terrain. Even the Toyota a track copies the old Land Rover traction control in fact the AM General Hummer in 1996 adopted the exact wabco ABS traction control that Land Rover started using on the Discovery 2 and Range Rover P38. It doesn't brakes both Wheels though it just on the axle just one and transfers the power immediately not shaking and acting weird how even new Toyotas with traction control do

To me personally this video is missing 2 (or 3) even more capable offroad vehicles: The Pinzgauer, (and the Haflinger) and the Volvo C303 Also the part about the Merceds G starts with an Error. At it's introduction in 1979 four different engines were offered, but not the 250GD. You could get a 230GE and 280GE as well as the 240GD and the 300GD. The 230 was a 4 cyl gasoline/petrol engine, the 280 an inline 6. The 240 and 300 were both NA Diesels with 4 and 5 cylinder layout. The 250GD replaced the 240GD in 1988. So 9 years after the G-class went on sale. The second mistake: the military got their vehicles at the same time, so it wasn't after a former military vehicle. It was first develloped for the military (the Shah of Persia wanted one for his military, but after the revolution in his country Mercedes also turned to the idea of a civlian version. Also it's not to show that Mercedes could build one, as they knew that they lacked the knowledge at the moment it all started and cooperated with offroad Sepcialist Steyr Daimler Puch in Austria. The cooperation is still ongoing today, even though the Steyr part is now owned by Magna. But all G-classes were and are still made in the same place. In Graz, Austria.

This list is good but not truly representative of the global thinking. I can understand the Willy’s Jeep’s place in this list as if was god feather of off roading today but all the other American models dont fit on this list. The willy’s in out of the box trim is really good but extremely limited in horse power and torque for todays off roading challenges without modifications. I can understand patriotism but the facts are they dont belong on this list (apart from the willy’s jeep) unless this list is based on the American market alone. Then i would agree. But on a global scale the best Off Road vehicle is the Toyota Land Cruiser 79 series. I have owned a few of the models that you have listed in your clip (including the Willy’s) and i can tell you that the 79 series will easily out perform any of the makes or models you have presented in the off road category. Even the Russian Lada would be high on your list for its off road capabilities. I dont mean to be disrespectful with my comments. I am simply stating the facts i know on a global scale. I have done expeditions on 5 continents in every condition imaginable testing different makes and models, so i have some knowledge about off roading. So typically: Anglophone hears a new word and then use it everywhere out of context. Discovery3 has unibody construction, surely not monocoque. 😂😂

The Jeep M38/CJ2A and CJ3A are tiny and simple but go anywhere machines. The best all around has to be the J40 Toyota Land Cruiser. The worst has to be all Land rovers ! One of their biggest set backs has to be the excessive weight of the tool box required to continuously fix the stupid things. The Humvees are just down right ridiculous. We could have included the great International Scout. Built like a tank !

The fact that this list does not included the Mercedes Benz Geländewagen, the most robust off road vehicle ever built, with every one of them equipped with 3 differential lockers (front, middle and rear) shows that the creator of this video is not well informed about the subject.

I love your comments that that range rover is just as reliable as it ever was,. It has a unhealthy love affair with the mechanics shop, so was unsuitable for everything you mention and guaranteed to breakdown at the most important moment.

@@harrywalker968 But on a previous comment you said that the 95 80 series was the last good Toyota. You are obviously VERY knowledgeable about 4wd's, but seem to have a love/hate relationship with Toyotas. I have owned a 1992 80 series for 15 years and will keep it forever.🙂 Peace bro.

No mention of the Ford Model T conversion which was produced in WW1 although it didn't see active service by the military. Way ahead of its time before the Jeep. Also I would like to mention the Ford Ranger. Personally I think equivalent to the Toyota HiLux.
