We actually used cotton with my friends during our run to skip most of Caelid's divine tower to the bottom pretty early on. That got us some really nice armors in the beginning. It basically happened because a friend of ours discovered you could parkour up to the tower and then go down, but he reached an area where he had no idea what to do, so he figured he could use the cotton to try and reach a lower area by jumping and it worked. It was one of those clever discovery moments that make Elden Ring so special.

speaking of vyke, I thought it was interesting how his armor was clearly burned by the three fingers, when you yourself have to take your armor off to see them. maybe vyke's reluctance to remove his armor had something to do with his eventual failure (possibly because shabriri's influence was so obviously marked on him, or because the three fingers didn't make direct contact with his skin), and now every subsequent aspiring elden lord is required to remove their armor because of that.

I'm a little reluctant to place too much weight on George's "5000 years" figure. It did sound to me more like he was just plucking a big number out of the air that sufficiently gets the point across. Still, it's cool to have it confirmed that his contribution was largely in establishing the history of the Lands Between, that's definitely what I imagined his role was going to be. I do still wonder how much of the backstory we learn from the game was directly from him and how much was developed from the broad strokes he laid down. All of the family tree stuff for Marika and Radagon sounds like it's right up his alley, with all of their strategic marriages and separations and the complications that arise from them. I'd also be surprised if Godwyn's assassination wasn't one of his ideas too, especially with how Ranni is involved in it.

Regarding Therolina, if you watch her actions carefully in the Radahn fight (hard because everything is happening so fast), she doesn't actually heal us, the player. Most often, she waits until we're in melee with Radahn, and then casts her healing spell and it actually heals Radahn a small amount! I think this is because Seluvis (Pidia) doesn't want Ranni's plan to succeed, but he can't openly oppose her, so he tries to aid Radahn on the sly so he'll keep the stars in stasis, halting Ranni's destiny. Her crimson hood details families of expatriated royalty traveling to distant lands to never return on journeys without specific order. The item description even describes such people as "undesirables". I can only imagine royalty owning the larger vessels. Besides that, the only other assumption would be those that live outside the lands between, in either the land of reeds or badlands for example. Whether that's anything else but tarnished or not is unknown. Could also be those fleeing? idk. looking into it more, it makes me realise how small the lands between really is if outside civilisations have standing fleets, trade and ports between one another. Since you mentioned that in NG+ you can run through slowing substances, and you've mentioned your Black Knife build that uses critical hits, here's an extra NG+ secret: After many NG+ cycles you'll get a debuff to your stance damage. By NG+7 you'll have to hit enemies 2 extra times minimum (sometimes even more) with Flame of the Redmanes if you're using it. (Honestly a very stupid thing but it is what it is. Oh and R.I.P your Black Knife build. I tried it and it was amazing but as of the latest patch Flame of the Redmanes was nerfed, now doing only 10 stance damage. A shame honestly)

THANK YOU SO MUCH I THOUGHT I WAS CRAZY!! I remember Yura helping me kill the dragon on my first playthrough (only a few days after launch) and I mentioned it casually to one of my friends who promptly called me a liar. When I went online in the following days and weeks, I could find nothing about it and couldn't recreate the circumstances on my own. I hate to be the "I knew about it before it was cool" guy, but seeing it outlined here clearly is wonderful. I'll be sending this video to him for sure😂

That mermaid looks a lot like how Godwyn ended up looking, and that fish with the pincers obviously is somewhat reminiscent of the crawfish enemies. Really interesting stuff, and I wish they had kept monsters on the map. Monsters on maps are always super interesting, but in real life we know that most of them can't exist or are exaggerated versions of stuff that does exist. Which makes it all the more a shame that they removed monsters from Elden Ring's map, because everything they put on it could conceivably be found in the worlds FromSoft creates.

This George R.R. Martin tidbit really stood out to me while playing Elden Ring: "As a child George R. R. Martin had turtles, the only pets he was allowed to have. The turtles lived in a castle, and Martin pretended they were knights and kings and made up stories in which they betrayed and killed each other and fought for the kingdoms. Martin has said that Game of Thrones began with his turtles." He talks about this in another Colbert (iirc) interview. It comes up because he's wearing a turtle bolo tie 🤣 So, while he said "5000 years ago," I wouldn't be surprised if he still had some influence on Miriel, the turtle puzzles, and the countless defenseless turtle throughout the game 🤔 ...also the incest. Also, thanks for featuring those armor combos. I've been rocking Black Knife + Vykes myself, but didn't realize there were so many options.

A secret easter egg I found is actually in Mohg’s fight. We know how Mohg’s Formless mother draws similarities to Bloodborne’s Oedon But more interestingly, whenever Mohg raises his trident and does a countdown, you can hear a woman groan in the background. Of course that could be ties to the Formless Mother herself but what intrigues me more is that it is THE EXACT sound file used in Bloodborne’s Cleric Beast soundtrack A cool detail, might the accursed blood in Elden Ring then be a easter egg to Bloodborne’s old blood that was found deep below in the labyrinth? And we also know Omen’s have animalistic features which coincidentally, people in yharnam upon intake of blood also become beastlike and take on animalistic qualities. A interesting train of thought I suppose

Imagine finding and old small sailing boat and exploring this vast uncharted see, full of small islands, ancient underwater temple, and masters chasing you while you bait them to a place when you can trap them and fight with them. And it all culminates in sailing in a storm towards enormous malestorm that hides behind that big cloud on the map.

I could play this game everyday for the rest of my life and never even think of looking for these little details. Miyazaki and his team are the best in gaming right now when it comes to making games man. I know there is other fantastic games that have been made and are being made right now from other people, but no one does it like Miyazaki. I mean Elden Rings World design is just spectacular man. I assumed the Fire Giant was carrying a shield as a reference to Hrungnir, the shield-wielding giant killed by Thor. Makes me a little sad that the significance of the shield (if it was originally meant to be a pot lid) faded in development, because it's a striking choice of weapon.

Regarding Yura and his summoning, you don't have to do ALL that because It is a very roundabout way of going. You CAN just meet him near the seaside ruins site of grace. Then, go to the dragon; you DON'T have to die. Just hit him once and that is enough. You DO have to hit him at least once, just triggering the fight or aggroing him isn't enough. Then talk Yura again and you will be able to summon him. There are however ways that prevent his summon sign from appearing. For example, if you trigger the fight but don't talk to him near seaside and trigger the Nerijus invasion, you won't get his help with the dragon. I'm sure there must be other similar scenarios that prevent his summon sign from appearing. Requires testing but I believe you have to trigger the second dialogue where he says he will help you ---> hence the summon sign. And for that you have to hit the dragon (or die to him). This probably has to happen in this sequence. The dragon fight and the invasion are two separate events but due to the open nature of the game can happen simultaneously. One is obviously before the other ( I think the dragon fight is the first sequence while the invasion is the second) but again, they are interchangeable which causes the sequence to be broken and hence not make his summon sign to appear.

what always stood out to me on the cover image is the way the logo is only partially present. This has led me to believe that the Elden Ring Symbol's curve at the bottom is the Crucible, which is underground under the Erdtree and the rest of the symbol is the Erdtree itself. The top curve is the canopee. The 3 Rings correspond to Marika, Radagon and the Elden Beast The straight line downward is the trunk of the Erdtree, connecting the Leafs on the canoppe to the cruciable of life down below with Marika in the middle.

One of many weird observations on the the various flora I've made in elden ring. On Altus plateau, there are tons of gorgeous tree's, wreathed in golden leaves. However an interesting note, between the living tree's with golden colors there are dead trunks with branches randomly mottled around. These dead tree's are ALL the corpses of evergreens! There are still some evergreen models scattered around the region with golden needles true, but these are entirely models of larches (the needles sticking out from all directions is the classic growth habit of a larch, the only species of evergreen that changes to golden yellow needles in the fall.) The true pines, which you can tell pretty obviously from both the bark texture they chose, and the classic "christmas tree" sloping tiers of dead branches are not only all dead, but the only dead tree's on Altus growing among perfectly healthy birches etc (some burned tree's still and damaged in the region but only evergreens are found dead among perfectly healthy other species). Is it possible due to the proximity to the erd tree, which seems to choke the whole plateau with gold (even the earth has veins of golden material running through it). That tree's with a cultural, superstitious, and biological focus on their ability to resist changing as fall approaches and to stay, well green- would be either unable to change under the influence of the erdtree and die out. Or even just die from the foreign influence like a pollutant in the water, air and soil- changing the environment to suit it's own preferred habitat while pre-existing species that cannot adapt to gold start to die off. Seriously once you notice it, you start seeing it all over.

So I noticed that some of the art seems to show what was at some point in the past, and we have paintings at certain locations in the map in Elden Ring, and in previous titles we went into paintings. I have this thought that maybe the moment when those paintings were finished they physically captured the moment, and maybe in some DLC we meet the painter, and he asks us to go back to the paintings to enter them and that space of time when they were finished for some sort of item or dialogue pertaining to a questline.
