This is a cross brand hi hat cymbal comparison that I've been wanting to make for some time now. I only included 15 inch, natural finished cymbals from each of the brands because I feel that there isn't enough coverage of this absolutely wonderful size in terms of comparisons.
One of the main goals of this video is to show that each one of these pairs is very high quality and has a voice of its own, so rather than pitting one vs the other and trying to pick the "best," it's more beneficial to listen to the subtleties of each's sound and tonal qualities.

Here are my personal takeaways from playing these 4 cymbals back to back:
*Zildjian K Sweet: These are extremely versatile on every front. They're bright but not overly so, they're crisp but not abrasive, and they're mellow but not too washy, checking basically all the boxes for a hi hat. They feel and look great and have great, "sweet," bow articulation and wash.
*Paiste Formula 602 Modern Essentials: They are the heaviest of the 4, but not in a bad way. These hats probably have the widest frequency range while still retaining a crazy amount of focus. The hammering/lathing is incredibly detailed and specific, making the sound quality perfectly balanced and consistent all around the bow.
*Sabian HHX Legacy: These are probably the most versatile of the 4. They feel soft and buttery, but sturdy at the same time when laid into, and provide an excellent balance between crisp and dark, making them very groovy. The stick definition is extremely tight, and when open, the wash is soft and mellow, but still sizzles cuttingly. There is quite a variety of sounds that can be utilized from these hats when experimented with.
*Meinl Byzance Foundry Reserve: These are definitely the most unique, and playing them in person makes a large difference in how they feel and sound. They have a very defined sound that balances between a low rumble, crispness, and dryness. The decay also has a unique characteristic that makes them great to groove with, retaining both jazzy and bright characteristics.
