#8 is wrong. If a pokemon is hit by a move that one of its types is weak to but the other resists, the damage is calculated correctly. However, the message displayed is determined by an internal order of messages. So if Venusaur is hit by sludge, for example, the damage is calculated correctly, but it will say its not very effective because poison attacking poison has a higher priority that poison attacking grass.

For the Venusaur example stating it took super effective damage from ground moves, it didn't really deal super effective damage. In the game's memory, it used the string "It's not very effective" when calculating the damage taken by grass types, and then overwrites the string with "It's super effective" when calculating the damage taken by grass types. Despite the text not taking that into consideration, the damage actually was calculated properly as neutral effective damage. So, it was still a mistake, but only in the text displayed.
@bellowingsilence
6 жыл бұрын
HellHathNoFuryAtAll8 it's still pretty problematic if you don't know that's how it works. One using a move of the same type of their Pokémon would get a 1.5x multiplier, but thinking that it isn't effective, might use another move that's at least neutral, when the supposedly not very effective move could have actually been better.

Great vid 👍🏻 Some fun facts I know of are that when you missed the poke ball on legendaries, that actually was the game’s way of telling you that you just had a really low chance of catching that Pokémon and you had gotten a low roll. I was playing awhile back and did some research and found a sit that showed the formulas and pretty much with like a 10% chance or lower the pokeball missed but when it hit, that meant you pretty much caught them because you had gotten a high roll. Also, we have always had moves with 100% accuracy, but apparently back in gen 1 there was a glitch where those moves had a small chance (like 5% or maybe 1% idr) of missing. And finally I know you mentioned venusaur’s resistance to ground with its grass type being nullified but Dragonite woulda been weak to electric types because of its flying typing but I want to say when it was hit with Thunder it says it’s not very effective but I don’t fully remember that for sure.

Reason the Gengar line was weak to ground moves is because of the poison subtype. A pure ghost typing would have been even stronger than dragon with absolutely no weakness, so they added poison so they could be countered by psychic and ground moves imo.

Gen I: Psychic types were supposed to be weak to Ghost types, but instead Ghost attacks had no effect on Psychic types.
@Duchess_Van_Hoof
6 жыл бұрын
You forget what I consider the main flaw of the gen 1. A series of mistakes that led to psychic types in general and Alakazam in specific being very very overpowered. First off I believe there is a total of 40 poison or fighting moves so already we are talking about super effective vs almost a third, secondly the only type resisting psychic was psychic. Meaning that it was reliable. Then we have the issues of counters, psychic types were supposed to be weak against bugs and ghosts. Bugs are considered early game pokémon and as such only Pinsir and Scyther have decent stats, however neither of them learn a proper bug move. In fact the only bug moves which deal damage are Pin Missile and Twin Needle. Only Beedrill and Jolteon can learn either of them, Beedrill is very weak and poison type whilst Jolteon doesn't get a same type attack bonus. On the matter of ghosts there is only a single line, and as all of them are poison types they are very very weak to psychic attacks. Add in that ghosts are a physical type and the trio are all special attackers, and even worse the only proper damaging move the have is Lick with a base damage of 20. And as a final insult, if you do use lick on a psychic type it has no effect as psychic types are immune to psychic. And this is why we have Steel and Dark types these days, especially dark which exists as hard balance check vs psychic types. Ironically this has led to the more or less permanent downfall of psychic types, at least offensively as everyone and their aunt use at least a single steel type.

A lot of these might not be mistakes at all but design decisions and/or limitations with the original GB game engine. Move mistyping could have just been oversight's, but they just have easily could have been made for balancing reasons. Maybe at that time, they felt Charizard would be too powerful if it could also learn Fly for instance. Things like badly poisoned status effect reverting to normal after swapping could have been an edge case they didn't consider, or a limitation of the game engine, maybe even intentional, changing their minds later on how things work. EDIT: After watching the video fully and reading the comments, I've determined this video is rife with misinformation. Doesn't seem intentional, just poorly researched.

You apparently didn't do enough research. The problem with moves that are both strong and weak against a dual type Pokemon is that the caption is wrong. It still does neutral damage, but the game gets confused about which text to show. It is still a mistake, but such a minor mistake, it shouldn't be included in this list.
@vkillion
5 жыл бұрын
And I have absolutely no idea what you are talking about with Accuracy being based on Speed. The thing with OHKO moves is that it will automatically fail if the user's Speed is slower than the target's. That's an extra condition put on OHKO moves before the Accuracy is even checked. You can't make a general statement about Speed there because it doesn't work that way at all.
@vkillion
5 жыл бұрын
Also, also, Critical Hits ignoring stat changes isn't a mistake. There are similar systems in Gen 2 onwards. It's slightly different, but it was obviously by design and they've kept something similar in every game so far.
@vkillion

Also did 3 of the 15 "mistakes" need to be " couldn't learn "? Those could have been easily combined into a single thing. You then could have included things like Gen 1 Miss (1/256 chance to miss even with a 100% accuracy move), Trainer Fly and it's potential consequences, or any other number of glitches that may not be as widely known.

HDvee, I really enjoy your videos cause you put a lot of effort into them and present very well, but this one leaves me feeling extremely let down. Half of these aren't glitches or mistakes, just how the game was programmed at that time. When I think glitch/mistake I don't think about type effectiveness working /exactly/ how it should against a ghost/poison type or critical hits working how they were intended to at that time. Oddities yes, but not glitches or mistakes. Using yellow footage when describing red/blue errors and you even incorrectly stating the glitch with the type effectiveness (text box wont display for a secondary type, but the damage DOES calculate properly) lowers the credibility of the video.
