What I learned after riding a Revel kit for 700 miles: 1. Careful with the acceleration (sprained my right ankle bad) 2. Watch out for potholes (scrapped hands and ripped pants) 3. Wear a helmet (I probably wouldn't be alive after landing on my head) 4. Other people on the road are idiots (they will cause you to swerve or crash)

I would also add to never forget to respect pedestrians. I always slow to a slow walking speed when passing children or people with dogs. Especially be wary of dogs. The are not used to seeing a human zip by at over 20mph and chase instincts might kick in.

I have to disagree with bouncing up before a bump. I used to do this and it works on small bumps sometimes but nothing more. The much more effective method is to drop down as you're going over anything (bumps, drops, rocks). I've gone over bumps I fully expected to take the board out from under me. Even just already having a pronounced bend in your knees will save you more than trying to bounce up. It also requires much less precision. I would add in purchasing a board with hub motors with any expectation of it lasting. Buy it knowing you will replace it in short order because it is cheap and you don't know if you will ride much yet.

SUPER glad you made this video Ronnie! You really cover the bases. Learning to fall and the importance of pads are paramount when I show a newbie eskates for the 1st time: the run off is 1st, then know how to roll (& practice until it’s just in the nervous system) then know how to slide on hands/knees. 3 essential techniques for various speed blowouts. Also, in my experience, people damage hands & wrists 1st when they go down. Wrist guards have prevented multiple broken/sprained wrists since I started eskating. Keep up the good work man! Glad to see you back on the board!

2 things. I would never meed with strangers and let them try my board. They can damage it or at the speed that it takes off, steal it. And finally, There is nothing more peaceful than riding alone and not competing with yourself for more skills. The only skill that you need when choosing to ride an electric board is minimal carving and standing on it. You are there for the ride and not the tricks.

Great video as always Ronnie. I have about 3000 miles on my boards now and here's one thing I noticed... When I use a Salomon hiking shoe with raised treads I feel less vibration on my feet if I go for long rides compared to a typical Vans or other "skate" shoe.

hi i would be very grateful if you gave me some advice.I am a total beginner and I am unsure which board to get. I was thinking to get longboard as its said to be easier for beginners to learn, smoother on sidewalks etc and more stable as it has more surface area, but then cruiser is much more portable and easier to navigate, and maybe safer?. Also whichever I get Im unsure of the size- i found a crusier on sale that is 28" in length and 7.25" wide but idk if thats too small? But then eg. a longboard i found thats 41" seems too big ?
@RonnieSarmiento

Longboard if all you wanna do is ride, normal street skateboard if you wanna learn tricks is what i recommend. Cruiser is a little bit of both, but a little harder to ride, and a little harder for tricks.

Haven't gotten any broken bones and i started riding at age 30, one thing i'll say is, don't get cocky always wear your helmet. For me i got so cocky and i ride extra careful so i don't need it to my commute, but knee pads and elbow pads are more useful for me cuz of bumpy roads or when it rains when i get out of work. Had a couple of scraps on the dumbest bumps and sidewalks and knee pads and elbow pads would've came in clutch. Helmet did save me once when i turned a corner with my weight wrong when i was starting, but overall i don't get too cocky on my speed, i feel comfortable going 15-20 going 25+ down a hill is my limit and i def wouldn't do that without full gear. I have a skatebolt tornado 2. And my biggest mistake is i def skipped the basics i can't push for shit lol

Cracks on the road!? Not just deweight the board, always, ALWAYS take them diagonally! At least for my experience it's more important than deweight technique. And it requires no additional skill. Even if there isn't one particular crack, if you are riding through tiles just get a diagonal path. If needed you should zig-zag all the way. Everyone says get helmet, I'm riding for several years now without one but since I watched a few videos and comments I'm going to get one, today... right now! I knew I should have but didn't think it's that big of a deal, now I know it is.

Never slam brake when its wet. Never go full speed on unknown streets, also never go full speed when its dark outside, cracks or bumps can appear surprisingly. To much braking while driving downhill can cause wobble (-of death). For beginners wear gloves! Mostly you fall on your hands first, fingerless gloves is the best for you. Before buying a electric skateboard make sure to know the rules of your country on public roads, in some countries its forbidden riding on public roads. Dont lose your controller while driving on cruise control :D (Happened once to me, i wasn't on trouble i just panicked and flew off the board). Never forget your glasses, bugs and flys are terrible in your eyes. Dont drive on cobblestones with hub motors, inside motors the magnets can fall off the position and damage your motor (its like having a piston seizure in your Car). Dont let your batteries empty for weeks it can damage it, if know you dont going for a ride in a long time charge the batteries up to 70% -80% and check every 4 weeks the % level of your batteries. Dont ever charge up your Batteries after a ride, you can overheat your ESC, your board is hot and need some time to cool down yoo. Dont stiff your front truck more than the rear truck (wobble of deth), the rear truck is the "guide axis" and the guide axis always must to be more stable than the front axle. So always make sure your rear is "stiffer" than your front :D lul.

Funny enough, Self Confidence and lack fo use is a huge deal when just starting out. I didnt ride my board for about a week and im afraid to look new. Then i realized that, we all start at some place and tryin to ride the board. You gota keep it consistent. An hour or 2 a day until your confident. Take your most frequented road then take roads that you havent rode or walked over. plus this is pretty much learning solo.

Gloves..full leather gloves... cut a hole in whichever glove thumb you use for your controller if you need to but growing all of the skin back on your palms takes about 2 weeks.... wrist guards I say yes find the ones that your remote works the best with so that they don't make riding more dangerous. I'm 47 so when I get on my board I look like a motocross racer get every pad known to man and be prepared to augment that pad setup when you fall and find the weak points in that setup if you're riding a lot.... This will be a wonderful thing that will help you ride until you're 47 and beyond... My last suggestion and I apologize for not reading most of the comments My last suggestion is inflatable tires... once you're riding on tires with inner tubes you will never go back and trust me you'll never go back ever ever ever you'll never go back. the moment I stepped on a board with channel trucks and angled tip and tail decks basically riding on mountain boards on the street I will never go back. I've spent way too much money on electric skateboards That's not true I've spent an equivalent amount of money that I was able to afford for how much joy and love that I experience writing electric skateboards I never ride until after dark when there's no cars on the street unless I'm in the middle of nowhere and I never step on a board without every pad possible to put on and I've owned Kalys... And I own LaCroix pre built boards... I've built boards and nothing's ever failed on me other than riding a Kaly... The dependability of the first LaCroix lone Star that I bought 12S battery I put 4,000 mi on that thing and put 100 to 200 mi a week on it and it is the most bulletproof thing I have ever ridden beating the living goddamn shit out of I'll be on my way home after being out for 5 hours maybe 2 and 1/2 hours of riding time on the deck the battery will tell me I've got 5 mi left and my OG Lacroix 12s pack lone Star still tries to buck me off when I'm going up a 20% incline with 4 miles of range left It's never cut out on me it's never let me down I just can't believe how fucking bulletproof so I was wearing but oh my God how bulletproof that pre-built assembly has been... That's my only other advice is if you're going to spend shitload of money on a pre-built board you know in the four to $5,000 range and I guess Kaly is gone and good riddance I say to someone who's been on a $6,000 electric skateboard that just decided to stop working That's never happened to me on a prebuilt a Lacroix... You trust these things with your lives every second you're on them and they bring so much joy and fun..... I scrape by every month but every dollar I put towards My happiness also needs to be put towards my safety & This video is amazing there need to be more videos like this and I give huge props to this video and only speaking up because of my passion for all of everyone participating in the sport staying safe and enjoying it It's long as they possibly can. thank you content provider for most of this video and everyone stay safe and have so much fun your brain keeps exploding.... also try night ride leave your house at 2:00 a.m. and see how much unbelievable fun you have!

More than one Navy seals told this to me along the lines of buy it right or buy it twice and the two things Navy SEALs that were active at the '70s up till active 2 months ago all told me is slow is fast... sometimes I'm trying to get geared up fast as I can and no matter what I do I fuck shit up just I calm the fuck down focus on steadily doing what I'm trying to do and moving through the steps slowly ends up being faster than rushing The other thing they say is 1 is none.. and 2 is 1... to them this means if you have a piece of equipment that you're life is depending on your gun your radio etc If you only have one of them you really don't have any of them because as soon as that one fails you done... You got two of what you need well at least you know you have one of those things that will be able to be depended on and if you're addicted to electric skateboarding like I am I need 2 be sure I never don't have one here I'm talking about Lacroix again.. just finally saved up enough money to get a number two but oh my God 3 years 4,000 plus miles in the first one I got is still the one anyway stay safe out there y'all I do not work for fucking LaCroix ... but I am a fanboy whatever the hell that term means 🖖🏼
