I'm a 56 year old woman who discovered VR late in 2020. I have met some incredible folks there, even a few I got to see IRL! It's funny how no one ever believes my age when they first find out! True, everyone I've met is generally significantly younger than I am, but that doesn't make them any less genuine or fun. My most favorite thing to do is attend open mic events like the Midnight Munchies and watch people of all ages and skill levels play an instrument, tell a joke, sing, or dance in VR.

And I agree that while younger people are the general demographic of VRChat, I've made a lot of wonderful friends, many of which we've bonded to the point of contacting one another outside of the virtual world, and plan to have a huge meet up one day!

I'm one of the 5.5% 45-54 year old players, clocking in at half a century. Yes, 50. But to ask the people I know, they still think I'm in my late 20s to early 30s. While the majority of my friends are quite a bit younger, that doesn't fault the strength of the bond we all share any. We're a very close knit group of friends, many of us going so far as to having one another's phone numbers outside of VRChat, planning out a huge get together one day, forming a bond with one who's become my honorary brother, closer to me than my real brothers ever were, and even one who's pretty much adopted me as her surrogate mother, and I've accepted as being that mother she needs in her life. There's even been discussion of trying to have me become her legal guardian or straight up adoption to be my legal daughter. No one knows just how close people become in this virtual world, the feeling of friendship and companionship, or the sense of belonging, or the pure emotions that come from this amazing alternate reality. I do realize the difference between the real world, and the virtual. It's not a total escape, real life is going to happen, regardless. But it is a way to cope with some of the issues, and lose yourself, if just for a night or day, into a place where the outside world takes a backseat to whatever you can imagine.

Hey Phia, I loved the last VRCHAT Player type video and this one was just as good! It's weird because I don't go into VR often enough to not say I'm a noob walking around and trying to figure out what to do, but I've also been playing for around 3 or 4 years. One thing though, I almost didn't click on the video because of the changed skin/profile pic (they look awesome by the way) so you might have missed some other people. Not that I know the best way to fix it but you could maybe add the TVRS logo or the PHIA font, anything along those lines to the thumbnail to be more recognizable. I think thrill does this with the TN or VO on the top left of the thumbnail.

as a 34yr old player that gets away with maybe five to six hours in VRC during the two days off from work, no two sessions have been the same in my 90+ hours of playing. Though at times I feel out of place being the "oldest" player in the instance which I try to balance it out by sticking to game worlds where interacting with people is easier than just awkwardly hanging out in a chat room world like the pug or the black cat. I would also fall under an unmentioned type of player that are the parent players, the folks that play VRC with their kids. The short of it, I managed to perform some financial gymnastics and I got not only myself but my son the Valve index so we can play VR games. Of course, when it came to VR chat (yes, shame on me for letting my 10 year old sign up to play), he tends to just join me whenever he sees me start up the game with out asking. Don't get me wrong, Its great that he is interested in playing with me, maybe I should practice letting him choose the worlds instead XD sadly though, the tether line to his headset is busted so he relies on playing with the computer controls to play with me.

I have to say that I have a friend I connected with in Second Life, he is now 62 years old, but he is a old game developer that still is into games and also VR now, he just hate nostalgia and think that is a way to get stuck in the past so you can't get used to the new things that is coming and that is often better. Now he just refuse to say his age for folk started to treat him differently or just saw him as a pervert for he liked a small "cat girl like" avatar, if you ask him why you will get an answer like "Woo in he11 want to play something ugly and boring" or "to show I'm not a troll or a hater". Try make an account that folk do not know, go to any place that have "age verification" and say that you are 50 years old, then you will be kicked for they do not believe "old" people can be active and therefore kick you for lying, or for they just think you are "too old" and kick you for that, or think you are a troll and therefore kick you. So if you are over 30 your best weapon in VRChat is to lie about your age, be 25 for the third year in a row :-D Edit: The Escapeist is what we all are and Linden Lab made a virtual world that is called Second Life just to show that it was not made to represent you as in RL but something else. VRChat is just that, a second alternative and a chance to experiment, have fun and be things like a wizard, lizard or a wizard lizard. In the past there was "Dungeons and Dragons" for this, it was as creative as reading a book, and I think VR even in a chaotic world like VRChat can be like escape through the pages of a book.

It’s fun playing as a chibi/shota avatar. Don’t know why, but it’s fun looking up at people instead of going for a taller avatar and looking down. Also: I wonder if there’s a category for those of us that were fans of vrchat content since 2017? Been watching creators like Pokelawls, Woops, and Nagzz since 2017 and was a fan of this game since then, I was in middle school then. I’ve graduated in 2021 and was finally able to afford an Oculus Quest 2 at around a few month since release. I wonder if that makes me a pseudo-OG? Lol

most definitely a avatar-maker/escapist, if i didn’t have a 50+ hour job i would be in VRC at least 12 hours a day with maybe 8 hours working on VRC avatars.

I knew a Kermit!! I met him before VRchat. He literally just sounds like Kermit in person! Convinced him onto the game on desktop and he was already suited into a Kermit avi as soon as I found him in-game

I'm probably part of the "cute but manly" crowd. being 6'3" and having a deep voice I've used chibi avatars from day 1. it's hilarious seeing peoples' reactions when I say hello.

I def had an escapist phase when i started out but i guess now i fall under OG? I starting right in the middle of the knuckles thing and just hung out with randoms all the time, avoiding forming any cliques or friend groups.

This new avatar is beautiful! I'll definitely miss the old one, especially the hair, but it's great to see your avatar evolving with you

I like both so I won't contribute to which model is better but it's interesting seeing how people react to your avatar, you should make a video on "Overcoming the uncanny valley of virtual avatar"
