Take a shot every time Rahdo says "respect the heck out of." Just kidding. As always, terrific work Richard. With Gen Con coming up, and a few of these titles being available there, this was very informative and helpful to me!

36:39 Ah… I have the same type of issue as you (in games in general) - I like games which “hold your hand”, so to speak - and give you a direction/a reason to assist you on what action to do.

37:20 Yes, I agree! Give me some type of constraints - rather than just tell me to do whatever I want… Actually, more related to my industry: Tell me EXACTLY how to go about conducting the review - what do you want to test and what procedures do you want to be a part of the review/audit… Don’t tell me just to do whatever or figure it all out myself.

59:34 It says that for reasons which became obvious, you stopped playing it and switched to Things In Rings. Why was that?

it was obvious for folks who were watching. throughout the entire play of Chandigarh (which we only got half way through) jen was constantly second guessing her moves and taking incredibly long times thinking about best options. she eventually got to the point where she said she couldn't stand it anymore... just too much to noodle on

Do you think Brink would work solo with two automated rivals?
@rahdo

hmm, i dont think it would be as simple as that. they've have to come up with a fairly advanced automa i think to emulate the area control and the voting...

Let me know, currently, in what country is company which designed that new Aqiatica expansion?
@rahdo

the developers of aquatica marched in the streets of russia to protest the ukranian invasion, putting themselves at great risk. they eventually left russia because of the danger and set up shop in georgia IIRC

@@rahdo Ok, than I see two companies at that georgia adress - Roast & Toast Games and Cosmodrome Games LLC and another Cosmodrome Games LLC in Sacramento. Question are this two agency and headquater is in different place? Don't get me wrong, 2 months ago I checked them because of one game and it is not so clear.

tbh i'm not up to date on how they're set up now. i would bet the california address is to make business dealings with american co-publishers go smoother (one of the biggest PITA of my channel is doing sponsored videos for pubs in some countries that require all kinds of obnoxious tax reporting). so what i reported is what i knew as of like 15 months ago, give or take :)

Nice to know, if they actually left Russia there’s a chance for a Polish version of the expansion 🙂

I wonder what other people's reviews of Aquatica Coral Reefs will be. Aquatica Cold Waters was not a "good expansion", it was unanimously labelled as "essential" by all reviewers. People said they would never play the game again without the tribes module. It seems odd to me that Dice Tower downplayed Cold Waters in their Coral Reef review.
@rahdo

i thought cold waters was great, but i don't think the tribes were better than the goals, just different (i'm pretty sure i never said it was a must have). but the draft is now MUCH better than it was before with the new coral tiles, so i would say it is a must have (for us anyway) because it actually improves things rather than just creating alternatives to already great things :)

@@rahdo yeah I don't remember your thoughts specifically on Cold Waters, I think it might have been in a roundup years after it came out, but I remember other reviewers who all said they would never play the goals anymore expect maybe when teaching it and even then probably not.

@@rahdo here's to hoping Coral Reefs comes out in French as the base game didn't do well in Quebec(Canada) and I had to order Cold Waters from France a few months ago. My non English speaking son and I love the game!

Curious to know how many years or seasons you played through with Mythwind? We found that after the first year you can get resources more frequently and you can build stuff pretty often. Also once you get familiar with your profession the rounds are really quick, we usually get through a season in about an hour. I don't think it would make it any better for you, since it's still a light and "cozy" game and not the experience you are looking for in a board game.

jen couldn't bring herself to finish the first session and quit. i then played through that full session solo and was bored so thoroughly by the end of it that i couldn't go on. so went and watched maggies "year 2" video that she filmed for the channel (which is a bonus behind the patreon paywall) and tbh it seemed like more of the same. i understand that if i put more time in, maybe things will get better, but that's like folks telling me "you just have to get to season 3 of this show and then it gets really awesome" and my answer is always "sorry, i've got other stuff to watch" :) but i don't say any of this to disparage the game. i think it does what it set out to do really well, it's just not something that we want :)

Metrorunner also makes it was too easy to ignore the rondel by spending credits. Really makes the game loose.

in a 4p game, to get what you need to do, you'd much more likely have to spend $ to jump around since other players are in the way, and the more you're spending $ to move, the less you can use it to take bonus turns, which creates a new tension point. unfortunately, all of this is absent in the 2p game :(

Sorry to say. There is a war going on unfortunatelly and millions of people are hurt and another millions are supporting that. We all should be very sensitive about it and not to promote stuff that comes from bad side. You have it also on a shelf ☹
