Another detail about the unique Omen and nobles potentially aligned with Fia and Godwyn: they're positioned almost directly on top of Godwyn's underground location. If you look at the map and view both the underground and the overworld, you can see that the death root infected minor Erdtree is directly above where Godwyn is buried far below.

Vaati! I'm certain some people already know of this, but you might not. The crucible knights' names Ordovis and Siluria are direct inspirations from Ages of the very Earth as a planet itself. (As in, pulled from soil samples) Specifically these two names have been pulled from the Paleozolic era, where there are 7 smaller eras: Cambrian, Ordovician, Silurian, Devonian, Mississippian, Pennsylvanian and Permian. Maybe, just maybe, the other 14 of the unnamed Crucible Knights of Godfrey were also named after ages of the earth?

The Silures and Ordovices are also tribes of ancient Britons in Wales who likely would have served the mythical King Arthur, which makes sense as Godfrey has a lot of King Arthur parallels. These Welsh Tribes are also what the Silurian and Ordovician periods are named after. Both interpretations of the Crucible Knights - them being tied to Welsh Tribes and them being tied to the early periods of life on Earth - fit really well with the Crucible Knights, so I think their names were chosen exceptionally well.

(9:32) About Miquella's Great Rune: I believe that the "Great Rune of the Unborn" is actually Miquella's great rune. The name itself is definitely a nod to Miquella at least, but the shape of the rune also follows the trend of sibling's great runes looking alike (Rykard's and Radahn's, Morgott's and Mohg's, and Malenia's and "Miquella's"). One of the biggest mysteries of Elden Ring is how exactly did Mohg kidnap Miquella from the Haligtree? Miquella was at the center of the capital city of his fiefdom, in an underground fortress guarded by some of the land's greatest soldiers, knights, and monsters, including his sister Malenia, in an area which is almost impossible to get to unless you have access to a specific medallion, find a forbidden elevator, and navigate through a perilous snowfield filled with more monsters and which you can't even see through for more than five meters. Yet Mohg is seen nabbing him from his cocoon in the introductory cutscene none the worse for wear. Well, I have a theory: While the Haligtree is supposedly a safe refuge for all outcasts, including Misbegotten, Albinaurics, etc. strangely, there are no Omen; however, what if there were at one time? What if Miquella gathered a bunch of Omen and took them to the Haligtree, but they were secretly double agents for Mohg? Once Miquella sealed himself in his cocoon, the Omen could have used their blood as a portal for Mohg to appear out of, like he does in his boss cutscene, steal Miquella, and then leave with him and all of the Omen.
@kgniku503
Жыл бұрын
My theory ever since I learned about Miquella is that his abduction by Mohg was included in his plans, for a greater purpose we don't yet know. Rather than some ephemeral youth floating about the lands between in between dream and waking, he seems to be a mastermind driven to some goal after Godwyn's murder. It cannot be a coincidence that "St. Trina" wandered down to Caelid, and suddenly Radahn decides to halt the fate - the stars - of Godwyn's murderer.

To add on to this, the Silurian Period is the geological time period in which vascular plants, such as ferns and the earliest trees, evolved. Similarly, the Ordovician Period is the era where fish with actual jaws evolved, with the period being famous for the Great Ordovician Biodiversification Event. FromSoftware clearly named the two captains of the Crucible Knights, an order of warriors dedicated to, and wielding the powers of, primeval life, after two of the most significant steps in evolution. Hell, the names of the two Crucible Knights fit in well with the British undertones of Elden Ring as they, and the eras they are named for, take their names from two tribes of Brythonic Celts who came into conflict with the Romans.

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned here, but there's another huge influence from Berserk in Elden Ring: Guidance of Grace. There's multiple panels, starting with the last two pages of Chapter 347, and in parts of some of the chapters that feature Casca's dreams, Danann provides guidance through streams of flower petals that bear a striking resemblance to the Guidance of Grace from Elden Ring.

Nice video Vaati. Regarding the dark souls 2 tree shield there's actually numerous other references. Those who live in death can drop a shield that references a city that worships the Sun I'm pretty sure Elden ring is literally just dark souls 2 the way they wanted to make it back then. Zullie the witch has a few videos on cut content from dark souls 2 being reused in elden ring, like rennala's first phase There's also info that Miyazaki wanted to make up dark souls 2 open world. probably a lot more links that haven't been explored

I think I know why the concept of Arbor Sentinels was scratched. As the armor description told us, the knights were gifted to Miquella by Radagon, and you, not unreasonably, made a conclusion that he was still in marriage with Renalla. But how could the empyrean be gifted to by the champion if Miquella was a result of Radagon and Marika’s relationship? So that’s probably why the developers replaced the Arbor Sentinels by the Royal knight Loretta (unless I got the timeline messed up).

I kinda think that all the Souls games are in/on the same world.. and it's Elden Ring that really made me think so. Being called the Lands Between, (honestly, always made me think of DS2 and Things Betwixt for some reason) and the plot point of Marika sending off Godfrey and the Tarnished to other lands to wage war.. Along with the entire Samurai starting class that makes me think the greater potential of Ashina from Sekiro is in the same world.. I'm reminded of how in DS1 that NPC in the DLC gave off massive Bloodborne vibes, and although my theory kind of falls apart after this, there's no reason to not at least consider the possibility that Drangleic and Anor Londo exist in the same world, especially considering there's some crossover loot from 2 to 3. However, I think I like the idea that The Lands Between are self contained a bit more with all the alchemy allegories it has.

I find the connection between the Grand Spirit Tree and shadow of the erdtree interesting since I too have always looked at Elden Ring as DS2-2 or more realistically a spiritual successor that did a lot of what DS2 wanted to do and either failed, succeeded or fell short due to it being simply an older game, one of the main ones for me being the similarity between Shanalotte and Melina and how they both travel alongside you and interact outside of their respective hubs. There are others, such as the great runes being analogous to the old one souls and the general feel of DS2 'trying' (and ultimately failing) to be a more sprawling world where you're exploring not just a kingdom, but multiple kingdoms, but the idea of Quella being referenced with Miquella is another one that makes me happy that at least Elden Ring is acknowledging what is memetically a disregarded game, a game that just so happens to be my first and favourite too, and I hope it continues doing so.

@VaatiVidya, I purchased two copies of the Soul Art book about two months ago - one for myself and one for some close friends of mine - two brothers who turned me on to the other From Software games after I completed about 4 playthroughs of Elden Ring. Elden Ring was my first game of this type. The Soul Art book is great! I am still flipping through the pages regularly to find more amazing artwork. It did not disappoint at all!

The graves also look like they might be the same shape as St. Trina's sword! Which might support your idea that the shape they're derived from might be Miquella's great rune. If so, that would be so so cool.

Damn, I wasn't expecting my comment to get featured in one of your video. I'm glad this little detail got your attention! I can't take any credit for this though. This little thing about the cocoons was mentioned in one of the Tarnished Archeologist video, and he was the one who speculated about the Albinaurics undergoing a metamorphosis that was interrupted when Mohg kidnapped Miquella. I feel like the amount of cut content in this game is something to be celebrated. It shows a high level of care and iterative refinement of the final product. Maybe this is a bit glib, but if you just threw every neat idea you had into something, without judiciously removing the ones that don't quite fit, you just get something resembling fanfiction. I'll never know what was going on in Miyazaki's mind but my guess is that he was worried the chaos merchant storyline was getting too heavy-handed and so it was pulled back to preserve the player experience of teasing those mysteries out themselves. Whatever it is, it was a considered move.

To think that the reason why the Godskin Duo is not far more obnoxious is because of a "bug", is hilarious. And I think From Software is aware of the bug. In fact, I say that because then it would make sense WHY they would place the hidden unit below their arena. Maybe they realized that, while them waking each other up is cool, it made it more difficult. I think that it would be cool that future runs of Elden Ring didn't have the NPC below their arena, and that the NPCs patrolling nearby would walk away or something, so that the fight is ACTUALLY harder in future runs.
@apexkonchu2234

The hidden NPC below their arena exists for the purpose of the HP bar. The HP bar you see during the fight belongs to the hidden NPC, and it takes damage whenever you damage one of the bosses. Fromsoft use this trick a lot.

Looking at that list of the gods from DS2, there are two little things I am noticing: 1: Galib to me bears resemblance to Caelid, and both are diseased 2: Nahr Alma's little symbol looks kind of similar to Morgott's great rune. Additionally, "Nahr" and "Mohg" to me feel similar, but also that is because they happen to be "Consonant, vowel, H, consonant."

In DS 2 this item got my attention these days: the dried fingers, which description reads: Dried fingers with multiple Knuckles. Shriveled, but radiating a peculiar warmth. "By the number of knuckles, it couldn't have been human, but perhaps some questions are best left unasked." These are 2 dried fingers and they reset the invisible invasion timer of the game. Once you use it, you can be invaded again. Maybe something related to outer gods in ER? I dunno, kinda curious...

Something interesting that i discovered that bothered me from the start: Elden ring is not truly without loading screens. In fact there is a loading screen/black out between lournia and the altus plateau. You can confirm it because of the size of the Erdtree and beeing able to see the forge of the giants. The tree somehow stays the same size when you see it in limgrave, and caelid as well as when you get to the altus plateau. The forge of the giants should be muuuch smaller if actually visible. I think those are separate models that serve to tease the endgame but are unrealistic portrayals when you take perspective into consideration. A confirmation for the forge of the giants is when you look at it from caelid, you can somewhat see that its just a flat painting background.

Interesting fact, the haligtree knights use magic in their attacks, which I always found odd since you’d expect them to use holy attacks like the soldiers, but they don’t have any kind of holy damage to my knowledge, so, there may still be some relationship between the knights and caria, though, this may also simply be because the knights have worked under Loretta

As an aside, it isn't just the Egyptian afterlife that has fields of grain as a paramount part of it. The Greco-Roman depictions of the Elysian Fields, which was were all those who could pay the fare over the River Styx, and were not despicable people, were allowed to rest in the Underworld. It was described as endless fields of summer wheat, golden, the area warm and restful. Where you lived a second, more relaxed life. It was also through the Elysian Fields you reached the darker interior, where the Lord of the Underworld, Hades, resided. and his home was bleak and dark and shadowy. Almost like Miquella travelling towards the dead/dying/decaying Erdtree.

And after hearing you out this story together in a cohesive manner, makes me understand why this game was nominated for best narrative. 16:07 It's nice to see more of an establishment between Caria and Miquella, as Ranni gifts you the spirit calling bell from "Torrent's former master", and, if torrent's former master is Miquella, it always made me wonder how these two formed a connection in the first place. Perhaps Ranni formed her plan to steal the rune of death after her encounter with Miquella, learning something from their interactions.

Hey, Vaati! And forgive me for bothering you. I would like to point out that the tree in the art of "Shadows of the Erdtree" actually looks like a giant sword or a pike, driven into the ground, with a "hand" holding it (or a vine entwined with it). I don't really know what that can imply but I think it looks like a "strangling ficus" plant, which simply put are parasitic tree-like vines. Guess, that might be a dying attempt of the Erdtree to stay alive? If it's set after the game events. My point is that it doesn't really look like a tree, even if a cosmic one

[Talisman Pouch] Small, withered bag, knitted by hand. Bestowed upon the ruling lord, or those attempting to become lord, by the elderly Finger Reader. Increases talisman equip slots. As the voices of the Two Fingers, Finger Readers are said to live lives eternal, and one is even supposed to have served as a wetnurse to royalty. I don't know if this description is referring to Mergo's Wetnurse from Bloodborne. I just read the description today of the talisman pouch and it reminds me of her.

Ok calling it here. Miquella is eternal, and outlasts everyone else. He finally recovers in the far far distant future (everyone dead, world overrun with plants, almost no ruins left, tree all fucked up). At this point he may create a way for the player to travel forward in time to do something. That something may involve the erdtree finally being overcome with blight, or otherwise dying of old age. This fits with time travel dlc themes, miquella's unique attributes, and being a compartmentalised quest/location without major overhaul to the normal map or game.

I don’t know if many have made the connection yet but the dlc could be about the land of reeds, mentioned in most Samaria armor across the game. Or, it could be in the future, without mogh, miquela wakes up, and the erdtree, after being burned, is weak enough for the deathroot to overtake it.

I know this is off cut content but if miquella was gifted the arbor sentinels by Radagon while Radagon was still at the academy then that means Miquella and Melenja were definitively born before the shattering by a separated Radagon and Marika
