I used to make my own stuff. Then I realized I was burried in ingredients. I had soooo much stuff I would go nuts. So buying them sustainably is what I do now. Less clutter and awesome products.

I stopped dying my hair 6 months ago, I make my own cleaning sprays, body and face lotion. We have take-out food once a fortnight. We went Plant based eating 2 months ago and 7 days in noticed a massive difference (money and health). I suffered from chronic illness for past three years and now noticed a huge difference - my brain fog and fatigue gone, my vertigo is better and my hot flashes from menopause reduced 90%, just from stopping meat and dairy products!

@@pmw3839 Depends a lot on what has been tried by the individuals supporting each type. Plant based reduces pressure on the system dramatically, causing a cessation of symptoms like chronic fatigue, skin problems and many others. Not everyone has these issues so they can afford to eat meat etc. Some people need to supplement with a little dairy even while being plant based. Try out various things for a sustained period of time to arrive at what works for your issues. I personally feel meat can safely go off the plate with no harm to any human. Will probably be good for everyone if they give it a sincere go. Especially advised for those with any sort of mental stresses like self-image issues, bulimia, emotional overload. The world is much lighter - give it 6 months.

Thank you for these tips. I'm trying to cut down on my purchases. I went through a period if buying make up and skincare products but have stopped buying them. I have decided to simplify everything. I havent dyed my hair flr years. Now I'm in my 60s, I just have a few grey hairs and have decided to just leave any grey hairs alone. Women, especially, are pressurised into buying the next make up item or beauty treatment. We can refuse to take part in all the madness. I feel much happier since I've decided to 'opt out'.

On Dr, John Bergman ‘s channel , he said to only put things on your body that you can “eat “ . That was an eye opener for me and made sense . I must admit , I am not there all the way because I like perfumes but chose to use less . I prefer using cloth napkins , and rags for my mop head , so I have a clean rag every time I clean the floor . Like you said everyone journey looks different . I too have stop dyeing my hair because it was tiring to do so often and putting chemicals on my head wasn’t good . My hair isn’t coming out all the way I thought it would lol . It is gray on the side of my face and salt and pepper the rest of it . Not happy with the color for the last 2 years . Honestly it is trying my patients . Thanks for sharing journey with all of us 😀

@@Grabfma040508 That's what I read too! Many years ago. I threw out the insect spray (God forgive me I sprayed that toxic mess on my children---but there was no internet for the masses those days, so we didn't understand what was going into their bloodstream.), the hand/body lotions filled with things I can't pronounce (& would never eat!), etc. I've been making my own lotion for several years now. It's similar to Connie's and I love it. I'm excited to try her recipe for conditioner! I also stopped coloring my hair like you did. I read that hair coloring in the US has very harmful ingredients that are banned in Europe. That stuff soaks into our scalp! European women are so lucky. I've got uneven gray too, & I'm fine with it. Natural is healthier & beautifully unique!

I have empty cupboards and hardly buy anything other than shampoo soap and toothpaste which I use really sparingly. I don’t buy many clothes, I use up all left over food. this woman, as far as I am concerned, as a European, lives a normal life, not a minimalist lifestyle. Most of us Europeans, aged over 30, live like this. too many people use shopping as a substitute for having other interesting things in their lives. As she said, living in other parts of the world taught her that a dryer is not needed, people don't eat out that often, cable TV is not the main way of watching TV, (many don't even watch TV that much - I have mine on about twice a week for a couple of hours to catch up on global news and a cooking show), you can only wear so many clothes, people meal plan and buy accordingly. Not much new here, apart from I might try her lotion mix, it sounds better than the one I use!

This is a great list and I'm definitely in agreement with "why buy if you can make your own" mantra...I am not a person who makes my own personal products, but I do support those who make and sell...I've been purchasing my lotions and hair care products from a woman from Kenya for a few years now...I also rarely purchase premade or frozen foods...I definitely used to do so when I lived in The States, but the culture here in The Middle East is more of a home cooked vibe...I don't buy deodorants now as I found a 3-In-1 catchall...I've been making my own household cleaners for a few years now...I have the raw ingredients and have recycled spray bottles from previous purchases, so it's not difficult for me to make my own...I don't purchase disposable dishes, but will keep any that comes with take away orders...A very nice sushi restaurant here always provides place settings for the number of persons they think will eat the meal (usually just myself 🤣), but I keep them...I don't buy cosmetic enhancements; however, I do buy cosmetics from time to time...With the pandemic, admittedly, I didn't wear make-up for nearly two years; AND while we're still wearing masks at work, I still don't wear lipstick 😕...I have been a HOME DECOR FANATIC...I don't purchase these things too much anymore because I've run out of space to put things 🤣😂🤣...I agree about the cable and just anything that has a way of worming negativity into my home...I definitely am more mindful of what I do purchase and ask myself whether or not I truly need something before I purchase it.

Thanks for your suggestions. Many things are unnecessary to buy. I would also suggest make your own cloth handkerchiefs and table napkins. If you have lots of them, you can keep switching them out. They do not take up much room in the laundry. Also, I suggest getting several flannel sheets from Goodwill and rip them into bathroom cloths. I suggest a size about 5x10 inches. You can fold it in half when you use it. Only use them for urine, and place them in a bin and they will not smell. When you have a full load, wash them separately because the edges tend to fray and leave threads on your clothes otherwise. After doing this, you will find it much more pleasant than using toilet paper.

Heat in a pot of water or microwave until melted, let cool in the fridge. It's the BEST! My skincare for my face is really simple. I buy ALL of my clothes (except panties) from thrift stores...I have never needed anything that I couldn't find there. Plus, I find the cheapest hair color ($4 Revlon) and before I use it I divide it between two recycled bottles from earlier purchases. As long as you don't mix them before you color they will stay and color just fine. 1: you don't need a deodorant 2: who needs a hair conditioner? 3: body lotion? Not needed. If you stay always hydrated there is zero need for any lotions. Our bodies are a smart mechanism and don't need lotion. The only liquid you should drink is Water. Everything else is waste of money and unnecessary. Connie, ANY kind of makeup is pointless and pure dumb. Why do men expect women to look all cute etc and no one expects men to put anything on their faces? Ever thought of that?

i come by my minimalism kinda naturally. my parents were born the 1920's. i have alot of clothes (so my husband says but not by alot of people standards.) I am now in a wheelchair and have limited mobility- so that limits alot of choices for clothes. i have special needs people in my life, so my decorations are home made and very sturdy. i use them season after season. I do have a thing for bed linens! since i spend most of my time in bed but buy everything on sale. Dr Bonners is my favorite soap it does wash everything very well, have used it most of my life. food is basically clean simple. I love the produce store for fresh fruits and veggies. i do so enjoy home made pasteries and coffee. Salmon graces our plates often. i used to visit the beach daily but physically cant do it any more. climbing stairs is too challenging for me, even with help of my loving family. I share alot of you sentiments and have for a very long time. enjoy!!

I’m very conscientious about water use. I haven’t had cable I. Years. I do live stream some free channels and pbs. Having three children from a teen to a toddler, I struggle with minimalism but I have certainly got rid of a lot of my own things and life really does feel less complicated. We also do not buy fizzy drinks or squash but drink water, milk, tea or coffee. The kids don’t complain amazingly. I am currently in the middle of decluttering books which, as an English teacher, pains me! Got to be done though! I don’t bother with any beauty treatments except a haircut now and again. My face is what it is and I’m happy (ish) with it. I do use standard shop-bought moisturisers because it’s quick but haven’t made my own yet. I honestly don’t feel I have time for sitting in a salon (though I appreciate others love it) and would much rather spend it with my kids or on a run somewhere green. I totally agree with making a menu and writing a shopping list and sticking to it. Really helps to avoid waste and does help you to budget. It’s also useful to do with your children; they get to see money doesn’t grow on trees and they can’t have impulse buys! One thing I am struggling to replace is crisps (chips) and cereal bars. I do buy nuts but my children aren’t allowed to take them to school because of other children’s allergies which of course I understand! Any tips would be gratefully received.

Can you please share your weekly meal plan and how do you budget and save thank you :)
@ConnieRiet
3 жыл бұрын
Hey! Our weekly meal plan is pretty simple. We eat basically the same things for breakfast and lunch, eggs, salad, smoothies, avocado toast, hummus with veggies, fresh baked bread, oatmeal, yogurt.... We plan our dinner menu, because I'm a vegetarian it is mostly plant based with some fish. This is what's on the menu this week! Cauliflower & Kale Frittata, Grilled Salmon & veggies, Orange Almond Temp Cabbage Bowl, Vegan Brauts & Sweet Potato Fries, Veggie Chili & Cornbread, Tofu Stir-Fry. Budgeting: We use an app called You Need A Budget. We've used it for many years and works well for us. We budget every dollar at the beginning of the month, then do a weekly check-in to ensure we are on budget. By living by a budget we determine how much goes into savings. Budgeting really helps to avoid impulse buying. I hope these tips come in handy! Happiness & Peace, Connie

We’ve been working on living more minimal for the last few years. We have scut back on buying canned soup, canned vegetables, and canned fruit. I make soup from scratch with bouillon and buy fresh produce or get it from our garden. We also don’t buy dryer sheets because we’ve used dryer balls for about 2 years now.

One pan for stovetop, one pan for oven. My minimalist journey - getting digital photos off all phones and onto USBs and going through the trash ones. Getting paper photos sorted into who they should belong to and not keeping the ones that are no longer part of my life (photos of people I don't even know who they are!). Striving to reduce all things digital as much as possible in 2023. Live alone now in a big 3 bedroom house, considering downsizing, but my costs are so low here, so I'm torn. 1 set of sheets on the bed. Cut my own hair with professional scissors, use 2in1 shampoo/conditioner. Makeup is one $1 brow/eye pencil, one $1 lipstick. Lotion is only jojoba oil. All soap (face, body, dishes, hands) is the same bar soap and it' s just baking soda for dishwasher/laundry. No dryer sheets. Some things I take away (donate) and add back through purchasing again which seems especially wasteful - I did this only for plates, cups, utensils, towels - for guests. It's going well overall, but after 5+ years of minimalism, it never feels complete, never feels like enough for me. I'm not sure why. Almost feels obsessive for me. Does anyone else experience this? I would love to do a career in home organizing, but I'm not sure where to start.

Well I DID stop using dryer sheets. Baby steps. Lol. I’d rather just buy dollar tree cleaners tho. Super cheap and only need just a few. I also haven’t had cable in about a decade. I don’t do seasonal. I have one curio cabinet thing with all my little “treasures.” That’s my “container.” I like having them all behind the glass in one place to admire and keeps the dust mostly away from them (one less chore lol). My other “decor” is often functional. I love to put things in interesting boxes and stack them in threes for “bookshelf decor.” Some are empty now tho. 😅😅 I think I have like 8 total. (Things like office supplies, small phone accessories, a few CDs/DVDs and cassettes, small games like dominoes).

No matter how hard i try, i can't get stinky using this, It works better than anything ive every tried - both arms down LOL. after i apply i do use a touch of blow dryer before i don my clothes just because i don't like to wait, if i happen to not shower another day, no problem, it still keeps working, its odorless and so am i woohoo

I follow many of your minimalist practices and have for a long time. It has paid off for me. Without a large income, I have saved and accumulated more than most of my friends. Where I differ is that I have become a Prepper.. I try to have supply’s of things I might need in case of a disaster. My EDC is modest in size and I spent very little to assemble it. I do have basic foods stored. I had a garden and either froze or dehydrated many foods. I no longer have the strength to can. I am starting to make cleaning supplies and beauty supplies. Being a prepared minimalist is my goal.

Conflicted between viewing preper videos and your wonderfully calming vlog I am ridding our home so far of unused pieces of furniture, and 80% of our tools especially since we are now seniors and husband has Alz. disease. Letting go of things and stuff is liberating. Letting go, and I will, of things and stuff that have been held for decades is scary but still happily liberating. Grandfather's knee banging desk is next to go. Big desks with big draws hold too much stuff. Very excited to gain space.

I appreciated this video very much. Many of these I do, some I don't. I"ll start making my own shampoo and conditioner!! But the main point I felt you making was the disposition of mindfulness and also the impact of what we bring into the house. I raised my kids with these in mind, and it is quite hard to see how consumerism takes over many of their household lives as they grow older and maintain their own homes and families. But perhaps what they grew up with will not be forgotten as they age.

This is ALL stuff we do when we have a very limited income always have! Unfortunately even people who can't afford it buy this stuff because ADVERTISING and CREDIT CARDS. As you've proved pretty much everything YOU don't buy isn't necessary or can be made without packaging and unneccesary cost/profit for greedy, planet polluting companies. People seem to think tips like this are new. I had parents who were teens in the depression ( yes the big one in the 1930's). I also joined and worked on a farm commune when I was 15 in 1970. I'm glad you're revisiting this stuff and sharing it. Just sad it is SO necessary and so often ignored. Another tip to save money and contribute to lessening waste in the tech field is to buy very recent tech equipment ( cameras laptops chargers and phones!) second hand or even get some free on the many buy nothing groups online.

Baking soda alone is a great deodorant, lightly dusted onto very dry skin (on wet skin it will adhere and hurt). It can be hard on clothes and on skin over time but one can take a break for a day and it still seems to work the next day, even after a shower. If I am going to wear a favourite top, I put on an old t-shirt first for a while to absorb some of the baking soda. It remains effective. You don't need much of it. I usually use less than a teaspoon, I think.
