you can't do stanley kubrick type zooms with this. too sticky lol. great starter lens though.

Yes, the zoom ring is a bit sticky for video work. No Kubrick or Hitchcock shots will come with ease, but it is great starter lens.

Nice to see a video with some love for the kit lens, So many reviews I’ve seen seem to negatively focus purely on bokeh .

Glad to see you appreciate the complexity, Neil! All lenses are important and we can get good results with what we have, even if we just have the kit lens.

Just ordered a M6 mark II with this lens and picked up a 18-55mm lens as well. I was plan on selling this lens but decided to keep it because the anti lens flaring is better then the 18-55.

That's a good camera and yes, the lens handles flaring quite well. Enjoy them!

I’m thinking of getting the M50 Mark II for travelling and landscape photography. Would you recommend this kit for a beginner photographer?
@apertureatlas
Жыл бұрын
For sure, the M50 Mark II is a good camera for traveling, due to its small size, and because it has good image quality, it is also nice for landscape photography. I had the M50, it never disappoints. The M50 II is even better. The kit lens is not great, but it gets the job done. You will definitely use it a lot. I would recommend also getting a prime lens, like the Canon EF-M 22mm f/2 - a prime lens, like this one, is always useful.

I don't know if anybody will still respond, but my focusing ring on my lens doesn't seem to change the focus. We took it to someone to check it out and it seems that every lens does this. Is this just something I'm doing wrong on my camera, or is my lens broken? Also, when I change my aperture, it doesn't change my depth of field, only the exposure. Again, it might be something I'm doing wrong, but I'm not sure if it's the lens or not.

Problem solved? You did have manual focus (or af+mf) activated, I'd assume?

Is this lens good for portraits or should i go for 50mm

You can experiment with both, but the 50mm is definitely more suited for portraits

Is this good for macro (with reverse ring)
@apertureatlas
Жыл бұрын
Honestly, I haven`t tried it yet (macro shots with this lens using a reverse ring). I see that the aperture stays open if, for example, we set it to f/3.5 on the camera and immediately take the lens off the camera. The focus also stays into place if we repeat this process - so it should work ok - but... usually, these types of macro shots (with reverse ring) are done with a prime lens that allows mechanical manual focusing. It is much easier with a Canon 50mm f/1.4 USM, for example.

The sharpness of this kit kens is better! It is good for architectural photography. With addition of meike extension tube and close up filters, i can do macro Photography also. Its a nice all around lens!

I agree, it is a good all around lens. With accessories like extension tubes and close up filters, it becomes even more useful.

The text, image quality tests, 30+ hours of work on putting this video together were made by my hand. Even if, I admit, there is inspiration from Chris, all materials used in this video are 100% original, despite the two things that look similar with what Chris has. Take it as an alternative, see if we got different results. Sometimes we do. Thank you for the comment!

Nice video man but i have a question on my canon m50 i don't have the af+mf option
@apertureatlas
2 жыл бұрын
Hi Joe, first of all thank you! As soon as I saw the comment I searched the cameras menu. You are correct. No AF+MF option on the M50, which is bizarre because the M100, that is a cheaper camera, has it. It seems that, for the M50, the only alternative is to toggle between AF and MF , having the Continuous AF disabled. Another option is to use the touchscreen, by pressing on the area that needs to be in focus. Still, the lens is capable of manual focus override. Now, searching more, I see that the M6 Mark II also has the AF+MF option. It's a pity that the M50 doesn't allow it.
