You have obviously never been here. While some of what you said in this video is true, most is not. My family is from here, I have visited a few times. The public washrooms are not Asian style requiring you to squat, there is a vivid night life, while most people are Hindu, it is perfectly acceptable to eat whatever you want but eating beef is usually done in private, and most places are open during the weekends like any other country. Interesting that the part you used about the Google maps App has Russian writing on the screen and the part about the taxi has a Canadian flag hanging off the rear view mirror. Couldn't copy and paste actual footage from Mauritius ?

As someone who went there and had a great time i can say some are common facts not only for mauritius but wherever u travel(tap water, and driving on right side of the road), and some stuff here is correct if ur a complete idiot, but that shit with some taxy drivers (not all) affiliated with shops is completely true and there are some shops pretending to sell fake stuff as original and are tourist traps basically. And exchange your money on the airport never shop with foreign currency(rates are apsurd). And respect locals and their traditions, don't go topless and respect their dress code, be respectful to them and they will be super kind as they are always

Let's look at the 15 things this guy talks about: From a Brit who lives on the island, much of what's been said is not true. 1. I have never needed a guide to go hiking but if you are unfamiliar with the terrain it is advisable to use a guide. 2. Google Map can be used for short distances, like walking from one location to another but if you are travelling by car it's best to us Waze GPS...it's free and very accurate. It has always taken me to my destination. 3. Buses generally do not run in the evenings and therefore you will need to rely on Taxis. However, the Coastal North is busier than other places on the island. On Sat & Sun evenings, Mauritius comes alive and is buzzing with activities. 4. Taxi drivers will make you pay more than the locals because they know they can get away with it. But the idea of taking you to shops is absurd, unless of course you ask them to. 5. This is another absurd advice. I don't know where he got that information from. We always buy from reputable retails stores in malls. Yes, they are a tad more expensive than your ordinary retail stores back in the UK but I've never known anyone to make a big deal about it. You can barter with the traders in the market place for items that display no prices, but if the prices are visible then that's what you will have to pay, period! So, it's safe to say that shopping on the island is a pleasant pastime. 6. Public washrooms in the malls are modern and clean. I have yet to come across Asian style washrooms over here. He's probably talking about those washrooms located on the streets that's been there since independence day. 7. He's got this totally wrong. Hindus are the largest ethnic groups here but Buddhists are such a minority group that it's hard to find them around on the island. I always eat street foods and have never suffered any ill-effect. In fact, they probably offer some of the best food Mauritius has to offer. As for eating non-veg, the majority of non-Hindus, which makes up a large proportion of the population are actually carnivorous. 8. That's the first thing that he's got right so far. Mauritians drive the same way as we do in the UK. Since there are sporadic police presence on the streets, with most traffic laws hardly enforced, drivers here go through red lights, overtake dangerously and pay little attention to abiding by the rules. I'm surprised he never had that on his list. 9. That's true. Certain areas are not safe for swimming, but we are clearly warned by placards. These places are fewer than this guy is making out, as most of the beaches are safe to swim. 10. This law serves to protect important places but as a whole most Mauritians smoke outside buildings. Non-criminal legislation like by-laws are hardly enforced so most people don't take them seriously. 11. He's got a point here. You just have to respect the way things are religiously and so long you do that, you'll be fine. 12. In otherwords, don't go to a religious site with just your bikini or trunks on. That attire is appropriate for the beach and hotels, but not for the mainlanders as you will get them staring at you. 13. This isn't entirely true. There may be places where drinking tap water may be questionable, but in most places, the water is ok to drink. 14. Again, this is not entirely true. Most shops are open on weekends until midday and many confectionaries are open until late evening. 15. This is true from my experience, particularly if you have £50 pound notes with you.

@justmathew
Жыл бұрын
@@polo08vw44 Whilst I don't know about 80%, these are some of the issues I have with this video; there are plenty of signposted hiking trails which do not require any guide. The more extreme trails might require the services of a guide. Google Maps works well and even shows temporary diversions. Taxi drivers are tied to specific locations. Some taxi drivers working at hotels may be on commission from tourist shops however, they can also help you haggle the price. You can always decline their offer to stop at any shop and if they insist, report them to the hotel front desk. Public washrooms have improved significantly in the last 20-years. Those in shopping centres are as you would expect in any shopping mall in any country. Asian toilets are very few and far between. Hindu and Buddhist? What about Islam, most flavours of Christianity and other religious sites. There are signs when certain foods or activities are discouraged or forbidden but I doubt you would eat a pizza in a church either. Don't forget to mention which side of the road to drive on for any other videos you might create for Japan, Australia, Ireland and the UK for example, some of the many other countries where one drives on the left. You might as well say "don't drive into oncoming traffic!" Tap water is safer than you make out and taps you shouldn't drink from are marked as such. Smoking is only prohibited under a permanent roof, although I would personally like to see a smoking ban in public places. Don't touch shrines? Do you come across many people walking into churches and climbing up to touch the effigy of Christ behind the alter? Really, what's next, a lecture on how to suck eggs or what about "don't break the laws of the land"? Saturdays are a normal working day, Sundays see more shops closed however, most shops are open on special holidays like Christmas day, something you might not find in many countries. As for avoiding late buses, the service only runs until the last bus at about 8pm so perhaps avoid public transport unless you have ensured you have sufficient time to catch the last bus back, but your reason is rather lame. The Bank of Mauritius sets the currency exchange rate. Taking into consideration the tiny amount of video footage actually depicting Mauritius, you could rename this video "How not to make an informative video of a place you have probably never been to."
