Sea World has cameras almost everywhere, which means they have footage of many of the attacks by killer whales in captivity. They know they're playing a dangerous game with nature and it has gotten several people killed. Watch the footage of Ken Peters, an Orca trainer of some experience being pulled under, and held there, by the whale during the show. It is chilling, and was her second attack on that particular trainer. These are very, very intelligent animals. Wouldn't you rather find a different roller coaster? These places are horrific to the animals, please, look into it. www.freemorgan.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/list_of_incidents.pdf

My cousin worked at SeaWorld San Diego a few years ago. When she was being interviewed to work there, they asked her if she had seen Blackfish and what she thought about it. She hadn’t seen it and was unaware about what it portrays. They basically said it was good that she hadn’t seen it and advised her not to because it was considered a smear propaganda piece. She ended up leaving after a short time there and said they try to keep their employees ignorant about what goes on.

Thank you for spreading the word about SeaWorld. If this type of subject really interests you, watch the documentary "An apology to elephants." Humans have been abusing animals for the sake of entertainment for decades if not centuries. From dancing bears to tigers jumping through hoops of fire, to elephants, to sea life. Swimming with dolphins is one of the top 10 bucket list items that people have. They will pay gobs of money to swim with dolphins in basically swimming pools. They hold onto the dolphins fin while the dolphin pulls them around the pool. Only after they do this task will they be fed. They use beluga whales too because dolphins and beluga whales have what people assume is a constant smile instead of just the structure of their face. In some countries they rob parents with children that have disabilities of tons of money claiming that "dolphin assisted therapy" will help heal whatever ailment their child has. There's no scientific proof backing it, they just say "you have to keep trying, it takes time" and really they're just robbing them of their money. The dolphin from the TV show Flipper committed suicide in his trainers arms. They can control how they breathe, and he just didn't want to do it anymore.Tarsiers commit suicide in captivity as well, that's why it's illegal to try to keep them as pets. It's heartbreaking, because this industry continues to be such a cash cow, SeaWorld is not held accountable for what they do. The best thing that anybody can do, at least in America, is not buy a ticket, don't go to SeaWorld, and spread the word. Maybe once they stop making money, hopefully they will have to close down. Unfortunately China and Russia are still very much a part of the problem. If you haven't seen it you should definitely watch "Blackfish" and "Keiko, the true story of Free Willy." I would definitely watch Keiko after both "Blackfish" and "An apology to elephants," because these two are going to break your heart. That way you can at least end on a somewhat positive note.

Corky and Lolita have been in captivity for over half a century. Lolita is from the Puget Sound Southern Resident orca population, which was decimated by captures in the sixties and seventies. They are now listed as critically endangered. Her mother, Ocean Sun, is estimated to be between eighty and ninety years old. They will probably never be reunited. Corky is a Northern Resident and member of the A-23 pod. Her sister, brother, niece and grand-nephews can still be seen roaming the coastal waters of British Columbia. What different lives they must lead. Kalina's story breaks my heart. Not only was she separated from her mother, all four of her calves were taken from her. When her fourth calf, Skyla, was moved to another pool and lifted out by a stretcher, Kalina began to ram violently into the gate that separated them. She ended up with severe lacerations on her face. She never saw her daughter again and died within a few short years. They forced her to breed at only six years old. In the wild, orcas typically start calving between thirteen to fourteen years of age. Having a calf at eight years old is unheard of in whale society - at least in the wild. Kalina isn't the only orca to have been bred too young. Takara was torn from her mother, hauled across the country three times to different SeaWorld parks, treated like a breeding mare and separated from two of her calves. Kohana (Tilikum and Takara's daughter), Skyla (Tilikum and Kalina's daughter), Tekoa (Tilikum and Taima's son) and Keto (Kalina's son and the orca who killed Alexis Martinez) were torn away from their mothers at young ages and shipped off to Spain. Kohana rejected both of her calves, Skyla is dead, Keto has serious anger issues, Tekoa and Morgan are frequently harassed by the other orcas.

Amazing to hear that a person your age has is able to question his own behaviour and take the chance to acknowledge there was something wrong - well, I assume you were taken by adults, so it is their choice. But still: great! This is what younger people should be doing all the time : see what went wrong and at least try to fix it or make it better. The best you can do is to speak about it to everyone, adult and kids, explaining why these places are litterarly torturing and exploiting these animals. I wish you to continue to have this mindset :)

No you absolutely should. I f*cking hate the blackfish documentary. But I will actually say it helped SeaWorld realize their mistakes. They have not only removed tricks from some of their shows, their trying to be more ride based. Also, any animals there have mostly been rescued. Some animals have been re realised, but most stay there that can't survive in the wild due to conditions. And any animals born there aren't forced into it anymore. Some still are born there though, that I have mixed opinions on. They also have removed several mentions of Shamu. They are now focus on their thrill rides and other attractions. And off behind the scenes tours. The animals there aren't treated cruelly anymore, and I do thank Blackfish for helping that happen. I am appalled at this video for stating old facts and still true ones, which is not the case. If you don't like this park, fine, but at least understand they've made changes.

@@lNovalandl not very unnatural actually, it is seen in the wild contrary to the claims made In this video. The reason for dorsal fin collapse is because the dorsal fin is held up by a delicate and thin muscle attachment that when not exposed to cutting though more turbulent water can atrophied. In the wild killer whales that live in areas with thick ice covering tend to get this bend as well. And similar to this fact a lot of what was stated is either plain untrue, misrepresented, and or outdated information that doesn’t hold up as current animal care or welfare for the facility. This facility is far from perfect, but using sources like online claims and documentaries like blackfish (which have been publicly criticized by actual animal welfare experts for sensationalizing animal abuse reports instead of being truthful and accurate is just never going to make for a accurate video. This is why you never use KZitem videos made by random people with no proven background to state facts they can’t even explain properly.

@@themotions5967dorsal collapse does happen in the wild, however it isn’t seen as frequently as it is in the whales in seaworld. The given statistic for MALE dorsal collapse in the wild (never females, which even seaworld managed) is less than 1%. And it’s brave of you to say a documentary like blackfish that has both, experienced biologists and ex-trainers backing it up, is false. Every critic of blackfish is either a “scientist” hired by seaworld, or some idiot that supports these parks. And by the way, exactly what information here is outdated that doesn’t apply to parks? These are BASIC facts. I agree that some of it may be wrong, such as the dorsal fin collapse reverting back to normal if males were put into the wild, (that obviously isn’t true, once a dorsal fin collapses, it is considered permanent tissue damage) but most of it is literally textbook.

The strangest thing is that I don't believe it is just the orca that suffers from issues, like those known to affect the strength of the dorsal fin. I have a 3 year old, male, solid black grey wolf (long story, and I do NOT recommend that anyone ever attempt to keep a wolf as a pet). For the first 2 years of his life, we lived in a tiny beachfront condo, in California, with very limited space and no yard. During this time, he always had one ear that stood straight up, as it should, but the other flopped over a bit, and just didn't have the same cartilage strength as it's counterpart. About a year and 3 months ago, however, we relocated out of state, and onto a massive property with tons of space for him to explore, hunt, play, run, exercise, etc, and within only about 1.5 months of settling in, that other ear popped right up. There is a reason why wild animals are called wild animals! They are intended to live within specific natural habitats, and this very much becomes a staple within their, overall, reflection of health and longevity.

Another cruel practice is that they put orca of differing nationalities in a pen together. Orca have languages with different accents even. So putting an orca in a tank with orca of a different language means they can’t communicate and a lot of the time one will be bullied by the other/s with no way to escape. In the wild if there was a conflict they could just swim away, but that isn’t possible when you live in a bathtub.

This is sad stuff, but it's good for us to know. Thank you for presenting it in a way that is compassionate to both the animals and the people. I remember visiting SeaWorld as a child who loved animals. I didn't know about the chlorine issue, or think about sunburns due to the lack of deep water or shelter, and, well, what was done to that "matriarch" of SeaWorld's orcas is pretty heart-wrenching. Something that stood out to me is how orcas in captivity live such shorter lives compared to their wild counterparts. For many animals, the opposite is true. I suppose that's just a testament to just how ill-suited orcas are to captivity, at least to the sort of conditions captivity seems to mean for them. These animals should be in marine reserves or the wild.

They didn’t mention the Ohio SeaWorld, probably because its long gone. But it was a big thing up until I imagine the mid nineties. In the wild, most apex predators leave each other alone (for the most) as both know there’s a big risk involved in tangling with each other. I hope we learned something from this, as realizing i was in Shamoo’s environment (kind of) i could have easily been a target as well. With many orcas and humans dying, struggling to have quality in life….. I believe that humans (the absolute apex predator) just need to help a bit where we can, and let these animals go home.

They also blamed Dawn for her own death instead of the fact that they had tortured Tilikum from the time they captured him when he was 3 years old. Instead they blamed Dawn when she wasn't even alive anymore to defend herself.

I thought so too, that Tilikum was captured in the state of Washington, but my internet research is stating Iceland.

At time code 8:12 they put in a scene where a trainer had been pulled under the water, and back up, and under, and almost didn't make it out alive. He was dragged by the foot and barely made it out with a severely broken foot. It sucks that something like this even happened in the first place.

the "free wildlife" is even more evil since those animals are born in captivity and will be unable to survive in the wild . Anyway, the situation is almost impossible to solve... - whatever they do: keep them, release them or mercy-kill them those animals will suffer immensely.

If you want to see whales do what I did. Bring your kids on a boat and go whale watching. It really is a awesome time. Other than the seasickness your 7 -year-old boy gets and throws up on the boat😂

Hi! Dorsal collapse affects both males and females, but particularly males because their dorsal fins are so large (1:51). There's not a lot of evidence to show that formerly captive whales' dorsal fins will stand up straight after being collapsed for many years (1:58). The only orca who was released back into the wild after being held captive long term was Keiko, and his fin was always collapsed. In wild killer whales, dorsal collapse is a sign of weakened health, poisoning, and generally a sign that the animal is near death. Additionally, the clip at 2:04 is not a SeaWorld park, but the Moskvarium, in Russia. There are a couple more clips of the Moskvarium throughout this video. This dolphin footage is definitely not from a SeaWorld park (2:40). The claim at 3:12, that almost all killer whale births are stillborn isn't entirely true. The stillbirth rate among captive whales is very high, as is the rate of infant mortality, but many, many orcas have been born in captivity and lived more than one year. At 3:55, you are referring to the Penn Cove captures. None of the SeaWorld whales originated from this capture, and SeaWorld has three wild-captured orcas in their parks today. SeaWorld's captured whales are as follows. Corky II (Northern Resident A Clan), Ulises (Icelandic), and Katina (Icelandic). SeaWorld used to be home to more wild captured orca, but all of them have since passed. The other 17 whales in SeaWorld's collection are captive born. The clip at 5:44 is not from a SeaWorld park, but from an unaffiliated park in Aichi, Japan, called Kamogawa Sea World. The clip at 7:15 is from a Japanese park where a pilot whale threw himself out of his tank, not a SeaWorld park. At 12:17, you said that Kasatka's calves would be immediately taken from her. This isn't entirely accurate. Kassy had 4 calves, Takara, Nakai, Kalia, and Makani. She was separated from Takara when Takara was fourteen years old. Although not an infant, this event was horrific. Kasatka was despondent over losing her daughter. Kasatka lived in the same park with Nakai, Kalia, and Makani until her death in 2017, but she was routinely separated from them within the park for training and shows. In 2006, when she was separated from 2 year old Kalia, Kasatka attacked trainer Kenneth Peters. There is also ample video of young Makani crying at a gate while Kasatka trains with Orkid and Shouka on the other side. Mother and calf separations are awful and should never be implemented. Kasatka was 40 at death, not 42 (12:37). At 12:36 we see Kalina with a bad, bloody rake on her eye. This was not actually caused by sunburn, but by a rake from Kayla. Tilikum was male, not female (17:26). I don't mean to be so nitpicky. This is a really good video and highlights many of the important reasons not to support SeaWorld and ceteacean/pinneped captivity. To view more of my work go to learnaboutwhales.com :)

actually most orca pods specialize in what they eat, which makes it even worse that they're all fed the same thing when physiologically they've adapted to specific diets

@Stupid Things 1) „stupid things” says it all. 2) you never heard my voice - i hope, it would be a waste of sound waves. 3) internet is a place where we all can have an opinion, even when its „stupid things”, 4) im aware of what all the things you said, the problem is that people should let them free, the problem is why they took them in captivity - a broader perspective pls, 5) if you wanna go you can go to „sea world”, North Korea, Venezuela, Russia, China, ofc you can - the question is : do you wanna support them with the money you earned?, I dont. Again, we all free to do what we want, we live in a free world - a broder perspective is what differs us, 6) sorry for typos and good luck to you with all you put your mind to - at least then we all know who we dealing with and its easier to decide if we do want to deal with it,

From what I understand with the story of Tilikum and Dawn is, Tilikum performed a trick properly, but then continued swimming instead of going back to Dawn I think. Due to that Dawn did not reward him, which is seen in a video of the incident. What is said is the reason Tilikum attacked her was because she did not reward him even though he performed the trick properly. Please let me know if this info is incorrect. It's something i learned from a video about it

maybe it was like that but they were not doing a show in the main pool. They were in a side pool doing a show for ppl having lunch. There is a video of it, and the video ends when whale has grabbed the trained by her left arm and is not letting go. She is seeing smiling nervously and the video ends right there.

Keiko only lived for about 3 years in the wild. He was never accepted by any pod. He showed up in I believe Norway craving human interaction. He died of pneumonia. He also contracted papilloma while in captivity.

Also, the main issue this continues is because people keep coming to these places. If everyone just grows a heart and stop paying to see them suffer, the existence of a place like SeaWorld would be pointless. I know the whales that have been in captivity for so long would not survive the wild, but how about a protected ocean sanctuary? We build borders/gates everywhere, why not an ocean kind and NO performances?
