@@pavle988 Well I must admit this video was a bit hard to understand at times. I really appreciate the effort these videos. But if your english is not flawless as a videomaker, I think it's better to take a little more time. I rewinded the first part 5 times and I still don't know what meter he means. Edit: This is by no means a burn, this video was awesome as are the others

A good way to preview kicks in context of the track (or any samples like hats etc) is just put them all in a drum rack with a looped 4/4 pattern in the midi clip and use the up/down cursor keys to pitch up/down the notes s so you can audition the entire sample pack all to find one that fits..... I did this today using your smooth kick pack. Man that saved me so much time. I must have spent about 4 hours trying to tune a rumble kick made from a bad kick and I just couldn't get it right, neither the kick or the rumble were responding to the tuner at all. Was absolutely doing my head in. Now it sounds better than ever! Thanks a lot dude. Love your videos!

I record takes, put them privately on SoundCloud and listen to them a day later on my computer, phone, any device that can play it, really. The fact you're hearing a track away from the DAW interface helps to hear what is wrong or identify quickly what needs changing.

I would like to add one beginner mistake (it was for me at least). Doing sound design in the middle of writing a track and then getting lost in it. Now i always try to make sounddesign a separate process. So that when i make a new track i have lots of my own stuff to use. But i tend to treat it the same way as presets and not get to precious about my own sounds.

And maybe the longer drum reverb? Or is it only the sustained instruments themselves? I’d love to see more videos on the topic of creating cohesive spaces as well by the way.

As for nr 12 or for frequency peaks in general try the spectrum grab mode in Pro Q 3 if you haven't. Just hover your mouse in the lower part of the EQ. But you're right always listen over looking when it comes to mixing. Assuming you're not ear fatigued after listen to the mix for too long (it'll numb you to harsh frequencies) always go for first impression mixing decisions. Take breaks. Also thanks Yalcin good tips much love 🤟❤️

Question: While I do recognize all of this stuff is important, it just feels so overwhelming to learn to do all this stuff. Where do I start and how do I approach this so that over time it will become second nature to tick off all these boxes? Thanks for the vid Yalcin, very good food for thought as always!
@johnbaprac
2 жыл бұрын
So you're looking for another kind of video, e.g. Production process. This video is more about best practices to be considered always on each process. Something to integrate in your mindset more than step by step job.
@BrofUJu
2 жыл бұрын
Honestly, just keep going and keep practicing. Eventually lots of stuff starts to become second nature, and incorporating new stuff is less overwhelming. You learn some stuff just from your own experimentation.
@GreasyWop
2 жыл бұрын
you work at it everyday and dont finish tracks until all of the boxes are checked off. Save videos like this one and refer back to them on every track and eventually it will become second nature.

Really good video as always Yalcin. Something I didn't understood, first you recommend to not apply compression unless needed (Boris only does at mastering stage) while at the end you apply sidechain compression to everything?
@Alice-Efe
2 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't put side chain compression as "compression". It is more of a sound fx at this point than "classical compression" 😊 That being said, I have nothing against compression at all. But I see that a lot of beginner/intermediate producers just throw random compressors all over the track and hoping that it makes the sound better. All is happening is actually compressor messing the transients and the producer is getting fooled by gain and thinking that it is sounding better. Contrary it often ends up sounding worse but louder.
@DidoInFlames
2 жыл бұрын
Sidechain compression is using a trigger to duck down a volume of another element . For example using Kick to duck the Bass while Kick is hitting to make the Kick cleaner and not muddy. You can do that to pads leads ect. The standart compression is when you do dynamic range correction of an element for example if one sound is changing it's volume from note to note you can compress it to make it evenly loud and solid not changing it's volume all the time. In the video He talked to not use Standart Dynamic Range Compression if you don't know where and how to because you can screw your mix. It was hard for me to understand it in the beginning but I started using it fairly fast and when you know what parameters to put it's awesome tool for shaping your sounds.
