I lived in Japan from 2009 to 2019. Shipped around 40 large moving boxes of games out when I moved back home. Lots of good finds over the years. A few highlights are a complete in box Kiki Kaikai Tsukiyo Soushi (Pocky & Rocky 2) that I found for 1000 yen in a junk bin in a Hard-Off in rural Gifu, a CIB Famicom Edition Game Boy Micro for 4000 yen, a Nintendo Color TV-Game Block Kuzushi for 1000 yen, Toys R Us Edition Game Boy Light for 8000, two Famicom Twin units for 4000 each... In 2017-2018, once I knew I was gonna leave Japan, I decided to go hard on collecting for a bit and knock out a lot of the more expensive stuff I wanted, which in retrospect was very lucky as we all know what happened to retro game prices in 2019-2020. Picked up titles like LSD, Adventure of Little Ralph, The Rapid Angel, Gaia Seed, Radiant Silvergun, Keio Flying Squadron 2 and so on, and didn't pay more than 20k yen for any single game.

2008-2019 must have been such a cool time to be here. I came over in 2018 but the changes are drastic. You definitely made the right call to go all out then, I've been to Gifu and yeah, it's still way better than most places to this day so you must've had quite the fun time game hunting haha Thanks so much for sharing!

TIL about SFC Shadowrun, that is wild and definitely going to have to track that one down! I feel you on the 'restarting the collection' story I moved out of my parents' house in 2020 but still have to get the rest of my things.... long story. but ever since been trying to rebuild a retro collection I got a good set going for Saturn, Dreamcast, PS2, Game Boy and SNES/SFC! this was a neat interview.

Really cool collection tour and retrospective on collecting in Japan. As someone that has been living there in 2011 when prices were still cheap, that was a great throwback! Question: at the beginning, there is a Sufami cartridge of Wild Guns shown, but it differs from the one I know (only the logo)… what’s up with that?
@enriquedelarosa1506
3 ай бұрын
that is because it is not the original cartridge. Wild guns on the Super Famicom has been an expensive title as far as I remember even just the loos cartridge and finding a cheap well done repro was enough to fill the gap! ^_^
@ChronoMoogle
3 ай бұрын
@@enriquedelarosa1506 I see, thanks for the reply! Be wary about 3.3V chips on the cartridge though, Chinese bootlegs often use them because they are cheaper parts, but they can damage the hardware.

(i played both and full completed both). i hope they make octopath traveler 3. its a great series. i just love turn based RPG, and final fantasy series should not have went action based (although i loved 16, the others were meh)
